Canonical currents and heights for K3 surfaces

We construct canonical positive currents and heights on the boundary of the ample cone of a K3 surface. These are equivariant for the automorphism group and fit together into a continuous family, defined over an enlarged boundary of the ample cone. Along the way, we construct preferred representatives for certain height functions and currents on elliptically fibered surfaces.

The Chern-Ricci flow

We give a survey on the Chern-Ricci flow, a parabolic flow of Hermitian metrics on complex manifolds. We emphasize open problems and new directions.

Restricted volumes on Kähler manifolds

We study numerical restricted volumes of (1,1) classes on compact Kahler manifolds, as introduced by Boucksom. Inspired by work of Ein-Lazarsfeld-Mustata-Nakamaye-Popa on restricted volumes of line bundles on projective manifolds, we pose a natural conjecture to the effect that irreducible components of the non-Kahler locus of a big class should have vanishing numerical restricted volume. We prove this conjecture when the class has a Zariski decomposition, and give several applications.

Geometry of twisted Kähler-Einstein metrics and collapsing

We prove that the twisted Kahler-Einstein metrics that arise on the base of certain holomorphic fiber space with Calabi-Yau fibers have conical-type singularities along the discriminant locus. These fiber spaces arise naturally when studying the collapsing of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on Calabi-Yau manifolds, and of the Kahler-Ricci flow on compact Kahler manifolds with semiample canonical bundle and intermediate Kodaira dimension. Our results allow us to understand their collapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits when the base is smooth and the discriminant has simple normal crossings.

Higher-order estimates for collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics

We prove a uniform C^alpha estimate for collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics on the total space of a proper holomorphic submersion over the unit ball in C^m. The usual methods of Calabi, Evans-Krylov, and Caffarelli do not apply to this setting because the background geometry degenerates. We instead rely on blowup arguments and on linear and nonlinear Liouville theorems on cylinders. In particular, as an intermediate step, we use such arguments to prove sharp new Schauder estimates for the Laplacian on cylinders. If the fibers of the submersion are pairwise biholomorphic, our method yields a uniform C^infinity estimate. We then apply these local results to the case of collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics on compact Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this global setting, the C^0 estimate required as a hypothesis in our new local C^alpha and C^infinity estimates is known to hold thanks to earlier work of the second-named author.

Ricci-flat metrics and dynamics on K3 surfaces

We give an overview of some recent interactions between the geometry of K3 surfaces and their Ricci-flat Kahler metrics and the dynamical study of K3 automorphisms with positive entropy.

Collapsing Calabi-Yau manifolds

We survey some recent developments on the problem of understanding degenerations of Calabi-Yau manifolds equipped with their Ricci-flat Kahler metrics, with an emphasis on the case when the metrics are volume collapsing.

Kummer rigidity for K3 surface automorphisms via Ricci-flat metrics

We give an alternative proof of a result of Cantat and Dupont, showing that any automorphism of a K3 surface with measure of maximal entropy in the Lebesgue class must be a Kummer example. Our method exploits the existence of Ricci-flat metrics on K3s and also covers the non-projective case.

Morse-type integrals on non-Kähler manifolds

We pose a conjecture about Morse-type integrals in nef (1,1) classes on compact Hermitian manifolds, and we show that it holds for semipositive classes, or when the manifold admits certain special Hermitian metrics.

Pluricomplex Green's functions and Fano manifolds

We show that if a Fano manifold does not admit Kahler-Einstein metrics then the Kahler potentials along the continuity method subconverge to a function with analytic singularities along a subvariety which solves the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampere equation on its complement, confirming an expectation of Tian-Yau.

KAWA lecture notes on the Kähler-Ricci flow

These lecture notes are based on a mini-course given by the author at the sixth KAWA Winter School on March 23-26, 2015 at the Centro De Giorgi of Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. They provide an introduction to the study of the Kahler-Ricci flow on compact Kahler manifolds, and a detailed exposition of some recent developments.

Collapsing hyperkähler manifolds

Given a projective hyperkahler manifold with a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration, we prove that hyperkahler metrics with volume of the torus fibers shrinking to zero collapse in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense (and smoothly away from the singular fibers) to a compact metric space which is a half-dimensional special Kahler manifold outside a singular set of real Hausdorff codimension 2 and is homeomorphic to the base projective space.

Smooth and Rough Positive Currents

We study the different notions of semipositivity for (1,1) cohomology classes on K3 surfaces. We first show that every big and nef class (and every nef and rational class) is semiample, and in particular it contains a smooth semipositive representative. By contrast, we show that there exist irrational nef classes with no closed positive current representative which is smooth outside a proper analytic subset. We use this to answer negatively two questions of the second-named author. Using a result of Cantat and Dupont, we also construct examples of projective K3 surfaces with a nef R-divisor which is not semipositive.

Gauduchon metrics with prescribed volume form

We prove that on any compact complex manifold one can find Gauduchon metrics with prescribed volume form. This is equivalent to prescribing the Chern-Ricci curvature of the metrics, and thus solves a conjecture of Gauduchon from 1984.

$C^{1,1}$ regularity for degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equations and geodesic rays

We prove a $C^{1,1}$ estimate for solutions of complex Monge-Ampère equations on compact Kähler manifolds with possibly nonempty boundary, in a degenerate cohomology class. This strengthens previous estimates of Phong-Sturm. As applications we deduce the local $C^{1,1}$ regularity of geodesic rays in the space of Kähler metrics associated to a test configuration, as well as the local $C^{1,1}$ regularity of quasi-psh envelopes in nef and big classes away from the non-Kähler locus.
