Higher order Sobolev trace inequalities on balls revisited

Inspired by a recent sharp Sobolev trace inequality of order four on the balls $\mathbb B^{n+1}$ found by Ache and Chang [AC15], we propose a slightly different approach to reprove Ache-Chang's trace inequality. To illustrate this approach, we reprove the classical Sobolev trace inequality of order two on $\mathbb B^{n+1}$ and provide sharp Sobolev trace inequalities of orders six and eight on $\mathbb B^{n+1}$. As the limiting case of the Sobolev trace inequality, a Lebedev-Milin type inequality of order up to eight is also considered.

Sharp Adams-Moser-Trudinger type inequalities in the hyperbolic space

The purpose of this paper is to establish some Adams-Moser-Trudinger inequalities, which are the borderline cases of the Sobolev embedding, in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$. First, we prove a sharp Adams inequality of order two with the exact growth condition in $\mathbb H^n$. Then we use it to derive a sharp Adams-type inequality and an Adachi-Tanaka-type inequality. We also prove a sharp Adams-type inequality with Navier boundary condition on any bounded domain of $\mathbb H^n$, which generalizes the result of Tarsi to the setting of hyperbolic spaces. Finally, we establish a Lions-type lemma and an improved Adams-type inequality in the spirit of Lions in $\mathbb H^n$. Our proofs rely on the symmetrization method extended to hyperbolic spaces.

$Φ-$entropy inequalities and asymmetric covariance estimates for convex measures

In this paper, we use the semi-group method and an adaptation of the $L^2-$method of Hörmander to establish some $Φ-$entropy inequalities and asymmetric covariance estimates for the strictly convex measures in $\mathbb R^n$. These inequalities extends the ones for the strictly log-concave measures to more general setting of convex measures. The $Φ-$entropy inequalities are turned out to be sharp in the special case of Cauchy measures. Finally, we show that the similar inequalities for log-concave measures can be obtained from our results in the limiting case.

Sharp constant for Poincaré-type inequalities in the hyperbolic space

In this note, we establish a Poincaré-type inequality on the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$, namely \[ \|u\|_{p} \leqslant C(n,m,p) \|\nabla^m_g u\|_{p} \] for any $u \in W^{m,p}(\mathbb H^n)$. We prove that the sharp constant $C(n,m,p)$ for the above inequality is \[ C(n,m,p) = \begin{cases} \left( p p'/(n-1)^2 \right)^{m/2}&\mbox{if $m$ is even},\\ (p/(n-1))\left( p p'/(n-1)^2\right)^{(m-1)/2} &\mbox{if $m$ is odd}, \end{cases} \] with $p' = p/(p-1)$ and this sharp constant is never achieved in $W^{m,p}(\mathbb H^n)$. Our proofs rely on the symmetrization method extended to hyperbolic spaces.

Sharp Gagliardo--Nirenberg trace inequalities via mass transportion method and their affine versions

Exploiting the mass transportation method, we prove a dual principle which implies directly the sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities which was recently proved by Bolley et al. [BCFGG17]. Moreover, we determine all optimal functions for these obtained sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities. This settles a question left open in [BCFGG17]. Finally, we use the sharp Gagliardo--Nirenberg trace inequality to establish their affine versions (i.e., the sharp affine Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities) which generalize a recent result of De Nápoli et al. [DeNapoli]. It was shown that the affine versions are stronger and imply the sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities. We also determine all extremal functions for the sharp affine Gagliardo--Nirenberg trace inequalities.

Maximizers for the variational problems associated with Sobolev type inequalities under constraints

We propose a new approach to study the existence and non-existence of maximizers for the variational problems associated with Sobolev type inequalities both in the subcritical case and critical case under the equivalent constraints. The method is based on an useful link between the attainability of the supremum in our variational problems and the attainablity of the supremum of some special functions defined on $(0,\infty)$. Our approach can be applied to the same problems related to the fractional Laplacian operators. Our main results are new in the critical case and in the setting of the fractional Laplacian operator which was left open in the work of Ishiwata and Wadade \cite{Ishiwata,Ishiwata1}. In the subcritical case, our approach provides a new and elementary proof of the results of Ishiwata and Wadade \cite{Ishiwata,Ishiwata1}.

Second order Sobolev type inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces

We establish several Poincaré--Sobolev type inequalities for the Lapalce--Beltrami operator $Δ_g$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$ with $n\geq 5$. These inequalities could be seen as the improved second order Poincaré inequality with remainder terms involving with the sharp Rellich inequality or sharp Sobolev inequality in $\mathbb H^n$. The novelty of these inequalities is that it combines both the sharp Poincaré inequality and the sharp Rellich inequality or the sharp Sobolev inequality for $Δ_g$ in $\mathbb H^n$. As a consequence, we obtain the Poincaré--Sobolev inequality for the second order GJMS operator $P_2$ in $\mathbb H^n$. In dimension $4$, we obtain an improvement of the sharp Adams inequality and an Adams inequality with exact growth for radial functions in $\mathbb H^4$.

The sharp Poincaré--Sobolev type inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$

In this note, we establish a $L^p-$version of the Poincaré--Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$. The interest of this result is that it relates both the Poincaré (or Hardy) inequality and the Sobolev inequality with the sharp constant in $\mathbb H^n$. Our approach is based on the comparison of the $L^p-$norm of gradient of the symmetric decreasing rearrangement of a function in both the hyperbolic space and the Euclidean space, and the sharp Sobolev inequalities in Euclidean spaces. This approach also gives the proof of the Poincaré--Gagliardo--Nirenberg and Poincaré--Morrey--Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$. Finally, we discuss several other Sobolev inequalities in the hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb H^n$ which generalize the inequalities due to Mugelli and Talenti in $\mathbb H^2$.

Extremal functions for the Moser--Trudinger inequality of Adimurthi--Druet type in $W^{1,N}(\mathbb R^N)$

We study the existence and nonexistence of maximizers for variational problem concerning to the Moser--Trudinger inequality of Adimurthi--Druet type in $W^{1,N}(\mathbb R^N)$ \[ MT(N,β, α) =\sup_{u\in W^{1,N}(\mathbb R^N), \|\nabla u\|_N^N + \|u\|_N^N\leq 1} \int_{\mathbb R^N} Φ_N(β(1+α\|u\|_N^N)^{\frac1{N-1}} |u|^{\frac N{N-1}}) dx, \] where $Φ_N(t) =e^{t} -\sum_{k=0}^{N-2} \frac{t^k}{k!}$, $0\leq α< 1$ both in the subcritical case $β< β_N$ and critical case $β=β_N$ with $β_N = N ω_{N-1}^{\frac1{N-1}}$ and $ω_{N-1}$ denotes the surface area of the unit sphere in $\mathbb R^N$. We will show that $MT(N,β,α)$ is attained in the subcritical case if $N\geq 3$ or $N=2$ and $β\in (\frac{2(1+2α)}{(1+α)^2 B_2},β_2)$ with $B_2$ is the best constant in a Gagliardo--Nirenberg inequality in $W^{1,2}(\mathbb R^2)$. We also show that $MT(2,β,α)$ is not attained for $β$ small which is different from the context of bounded domains. In the critical case, we prove that $MT(N,β_N,α)$ is attained for $α\geq 0$ small enough. To prove our results, we first establish a lower bound for $MT(N,β,α)$ which excludes the concentrating or vanishing behaviors of their maximizer sequences. This implies the attainability of $MT(N,β,α)$ in the subcritical case. The proof in the critical case is based on the blow-up analysis method. Finally, by using the Moser sequence together the scaling argument, we show that $MT(N,β_N,1) =\infty$. Our results settle the questions left open in \cite{doO2015,doO2016}.

Improved Moser-Trudinger type inequalities in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$

We establish an improved version of the Moser-Trudinger inequality in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$, $n\geq 2$. Namely, we prove the following result: for any $0 \leq λ< \left(\frac{n-1}n\right)^n$, then we have $$ \sup_{\substack{u\in C_0^\infty(\mathbb H^n) \int_{\mathbb H^n} |\nabla_g u|_g^n d\text{Vol}_g -λ\int_{\mathbb H^n} |u|^n d\text{ Vol}_g \leq 1}} \int_{\mathbb H^n} Φ_n(α_n |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1}}) d\text{ Vol}_g < \infty, $$ where $α_n = n ω_{n-1}^{\frac1{n-1}}$, $ω_{n-1}$ denotes the surface area of the unit sphere in $\mathbb R^n$ and $Φ_n(t) = e^t -\sum_{j=0}^{n-2}\frac{t^j}{j!}$. This improves the Moser-Trudinger inequality in hyperbolic spaces obtained recently by Mancini and Sandeep, by Mancini, Sandeep and Tintarev and by Adimurthi and Tintarev. In the limiting case $λ=(\frac{n-1}n)^n$, we prove a Moser-Trudinger inequality with exact growth in $\mathbb H^n$, $$ \sup_{\substack{u\in C_0^\infty(\mathbb H^n) \int_{\mathbb H^n} |\nabla_g u|_g^n d\text{ Vol}_g -(\frac{n-1}n)^n \int_{\mathbb H^n} |u|^n d\text{ Vol}_g \leq 1}} \frac{1}{\int_{\mathbb H^n} |u|^n d\text{ Vol}_g}\int_{\mathbb H^n} \frac{Φ_n(α_n |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1}})}{(1+ |u|)^{\frac n{n-1}}} d\text{ Vol}_g < \infty. $$ This improves the Moser-Trudinger inequality with exact growth in $\mathbb H^n$ established by Lu and Tang.

Sharp Hardy and Rellich type inequalities on Cartan--Hadamard manifolds and their improvements

In this paper, we prove several new Hardy type inequalities (such as the weighted Hardy inequality, weighted Rellich inequality, critical Hardy inequality and critical Rellich inequality) for radial derivations (i.e., the derivation along the geodesic curve) on Cartan--Hadamard manifolds. By Gauss lemma, our new Hardy inequality are stronger than the classical one. We also established the improvements of these inequalities in terms of sectional curvature of underlying manifolds which illustrate the effect of curvature to these inequalities. Furthermore, we obtain some improvements of Hardy and Rellich inequality in hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$. Especially, we show that our new Rellich inequality is indeed stronger the classical one in hyperbolic space $\mathbb H^n$.

Sharp Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities on Riemannian manifolds: the influence of curvature

We first establish a family of sharp Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities on the Euclidean spaces and then extend them to the setting of Cartan-Hadamard manifolds with the same best constant. The quantitative version of these inequalities also are proved by adding a non-negative remainder term in terms of the sectional curvature of manifolds. We next prove several rigidity results for complete Riemannian manifolds supporting the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities with the same sharp constant as in $\mathbb R^n$ (shortly, sharp CKN inequalities). Our results illustrate the influence of curvature to the sharp CKN inequalities on the Riemannian manifolds. They extend recent results of Kristály to a larger class of the sharp CKN inequalities.

The sharp higher order Hardy--Rellich type inequalities on the homogeneous groups

We prove several interesting equalities for the integrals of higher order derivatives on the homogeneous groups. As consequences, we obtain the sharp Hardy--Rellich type inequalities for higher order derivatives including both the subcritical and critical inequalities on the homogeneous groups. We also prove several uncertainty principles on the homogeneous groups. Our results seem to be new even in the case of Euclidean space $\mathbb R^n$ and give a simple proof of several classical Hardy--Rellich type inequalities in $\mathbb R^n$.

Improved Moser--Trudinger inequality for functions with mean value zero in $\mathbb R^n$ and its extremal functions

Let $Ω$ be a bounded smooth domain in $\mathbb R^n$, $W^{1,n}(Ω)$ be the Sobolev space on $Ω$, and $λ(Ω) = \inf\{\|\nabla u\|_n^n: \int_Ωu dx =0, \|u\|_n =1\}$ be the first nonzero Neumann eigenvalue of the $n-$Laplace operator $-Δ_n$ on $Ω$. For $0 \leq α< λ(Ω)$, let us define $\|u\|_{1,α}^n =\|\nabla u\|_n^n -α\|u\|_n^n$. We prove, in this paper, the following improved Moser--Trudinger inequality on functions with mean value zero on $Ω$, \[ \sup_{u\in W^{1,n}(Ω), \int_Ωu dx =0, \|u\|_{1,α} =1} \int_Ω e^{β_n |u|^{\frac n{n-1}}} dx < \infty, \] where $β_n = n (ω_{n-1}/2)^{1/(n-1)}$, and $ω_{n-1}$ denotes the surface area of unit sphere in $\mathbb R^n$. We also show that this supremum is attained by some function $u^*\in W^{1,n}(Ω)$ such that $\int_Ωu^* dx =0$ and $\|u^*\|_{1,α} =1$. This generalizes a result of Ngo and Nguyen \cite{NN17} in dimension two and a result of Yang \cite{Yang07} for $α=0$, and improves a result of Cianchi \cite{Cianchi05}.

Orlicz--Lorentz centroid bodies

We extend the definition of the centroid body operator to an Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body operator on the star bodies in $\mathbb R^n$, and establish the sharp affine isoperimetric inequality that bounds (from below) the volume of the Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body of any convex body containing the origin in its interior by the volume of this convex body.

A pointwise inequality for a biharmonic equation with negative exponent and related problems

Inspired by a recent pointwise differential inequality for positive bounded solutions of the fourth-order Hénon equation $Δ^2 u = |x|^a u^p$ in ${\mathbb R}^n$ with $a \geqslant 0$, $p > 1$, $n \geqslant 5$ due to Fazly, Wei, and Xu [ Anal. PDE., 8(2015) 1541--1563], first for some positive constants $α$ and $β$ we establish the following pointwise inequality \[ Δu \geqslant αu^{-\frac{q-1}2} + βu^{-1} |\nabla u|^2 \] in ${\mathbb R}^n$ with $n \geqslant 3$ for positive $C^4$-solutions of the fourth-order equation \[ Δ^2u=-u^{-q} \quad \text{ in } \mathbb R^n \] where $q > 1$. Next, we prove a comparison property for Lane--Emden system with exponents of mixed sign. Finally, we give an analogue result for parabolic models by establishing a comparison property for parabolic system of Lane--Emden type. To obtain all these results, a new argument of maximum principle is introduced, which allows us to deal with solutions with high growth at infinity. We expect to see more applications of this new method to other problems in different contexts.

Extremal functions for the sharp Moser--Trudinger type inequalities in whole space $\mathbb R^N$

This paper is devoted to study the sharp Moser-Trudinger type inequalities in whole space $\mathbb R^N$, $N \geq 2$ in more general case. We first compute explicitly the \emph{normalized vanishing limit} and the \emph{normalized concentrating limit} of the Moser-Trudinger type functional associated with our inequalities over all the \emph{normalized vanishing sequences} and the \emph{normalized concentrating sequences}, respectively. Exploiting these limits together with the concentration-compactness principle of Lions type, we give a proof of the exitence of maximizers for these Moser-Trudinger type inequalities. Our approach gives an alternative proof of the existence of maximizers for the Moser-Trudinger inequality and singular Moser-Trudinger inequality in whole space $\mathbb R^N$ due to Li and Ruf \cite{LiRuf2008} and Li and Yang \cite{LiYang}.

On a weighted Trudinger-Moser type inequality on the whole space and related maximizing problem

In this paper, we establish a weighted Trudinger-Moser type inequality with the full Sobolev norm constraint on the whole Euclidean space. Main tool is the singular Trudinger-Moser inequality on the whole space recently established by Adimurthi and Yang, and a transformation of functions. We also discuss the existence and non-existence of maximizers for the associated variational problem.
