Attractors and Singular Limits for a Quintic Wave Equation with Nonlocal Kelvin--Voigt Damping

In this article, we consider an energy-critical quintic wave equation on a bounded domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ with nonlinear and nonlocal Kelvin--Voigt damping of the form $-\|\nabla u_t\|_{L^2(\Omega)}^\alpha\Delta u_t$, where $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}_+=[0,\infty)$. Under suitable hypotheses on the quintic source term, we establish the well-posedness of the problem and investigate its long-time dynamics in the natural energy space $\mathcal H=H_0^1(\Omega)\times L^2(\Omega)$. For every $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}_+$, we show that the associated dynamical system $(\mathcal H,S^\alpha(t))$ is gradient and dissipative, and we prove a stabilization estimate that yields asymptotic smoothness and, consequently, the existence of a compact global attractor $\mathcal A_\alpha$. The same estimate provides an upper bound for the Kolmogorov $\varepsilon$-entropy of $\mathcal A_\alpha$ and, in the limiting case $\alpha=0$, reduces to a quasi-stability inequality, which implies that $\mathcal A_0$ has finite fractal dimension. Furthermore, we prove that the family $\{\mathcal A_\alpha\}_{\alpha\in\mathbb{R}_+}$ is uniformly bounded in the higher-regularity space $\mathcal H_1=(H^2(\Omega)\cap H_0^1(\Omega))\times H_0^1(\Omega)$. Finally, we establish the upper semicontinuity of $\{\mathcal A_\alpha\}_{\alpha\in\mathbb{R}_+}$ at $\alpha=0$, showing that the attractors associated with the nonlinear and nonlocal Kelvin--Voigt damping converge to the global attractor of the limiting problem with classical linear Kelvin--Voigt damping.

Dynamics of Fractional Wave Equations with Nonlocal Damping

In this work we study a fractional wave equation with Balakrishnan--Taylor type damping posed on a bounded domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n$. The model couples the fractional Laplacian with a nonlinear damping coefficient depending on the fractional energy, leading to a doubly nonlocal evolution equation that extends the classical wave equation with energy-dependent dissipation. By means of the theory of linear operators, we establish the global well-posedness of both mild and regular solutions. We then investigate the long-time dynamics of the associated semigroup and prove that it is gradient and asymptotically smooth. As a consequence, we establish the existence of a compact global attractor and show that it coincides with the unstable manifold of the set of stationary solutions. To the best of our knowledge, this provides the first characterization of the asymptotic dynamics for fractional wave equations with Balakrishnan--Taylor type damping.

Dynamics for a viscoelastic beam equation with past history and nonlocal boundary dissipation

This article aims to study the long-time dynamics of the linear viscoelastic plate equation $\displaystyle{u_{tt}+\Delta^2 u-\int_{\tau}^tg(t-s)\Delta^2u(s)ds=0}$ subject to nonlinear and nonlocal boundary conditions. This model, with $\tau=0$, was first considered by Cavalcanti (Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst., 8(3), 675-695, 2002), where results of global existence and uniform decay rates of energy have been established. In this work, by taking $\tau=-\infty$, and considering the autonomous equivalent problem we prove that the dynamical system $(\mathcal{H},S_t)$ generated by the weak solutions has a compact global attractor $\mathfrak{A}$ (in the topology of the weak phase space $\mathcal{H}$), which in subcritical case has finite dimension and smoothness. Furthermore, when the force follows the {\it Hook Law}, we prove that $(\mathcal{H},S_t)$ possesses a (generalized) fractal exponential attractor $\mathfrak{A}_{\exp}$ with finite dimension in a space $\widetilde{\mathcal{H}}\supset\mathcal{H}$.

Stabilizing Energy-Critical Wave Equation to a Finite Dimensional Attractor via Nonlinear Damping

The wave equation with energy critical sources and nonlinear damping defined on a 3D bounded domain is considered. It is shown that the resulting dynamical system admits a global attractor. Under the additional assumption of strong monotonicity of the damping at the origin, it is shown that the originally unstable quintic wave is uniformly stabilised to a finite dimensional and smooth set. Moreover, the existence of exponential attractor is established. In order to handle \enquote{energy criticality} of both sources and damping, the methods used depend on enhanced dissipation \cite{Bociu-lasiecka-jde}, energy {\it identity} for weak solutions \cite{Koch-lasiecka}, an adaptation of Ball's method \cite{ball}, and the theory of quasi-stable systems \cite{chueshov-white}.

Dynamics of a class of extensible beams with degenerate and non-degenerate nonlocal damping

This work is concerned with new results on long-time dynamics of a class of hyperbolic evolution equations related to extensible beams with three distinguished nonlocal nonlinear damping terms. In the first possibly degenerate case, the results feature the existence of a family of compact global attractors and a thickness estimate for their Kolmogorov's $\varepsilon$-entropy. Then, in the non-degenerate context, the structure of the helpful nonlocal damping leads to the existence of finite-dimensional compact global and exponential attractors. Lastly, in a degenerate and critical framework, it is proved the existence of a bounded closed global attractor but not compact. To the proofs, we provide several new technical results by means of refined estimates that open up perspectives for a new branch of nonlinearly damped problems.
