Rapidity distribution as a probe for elliptical flow at intermediate energies

Interplay between the spectator and participant matter in heavy-ion collisions is investigated within isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model in term of rapidity distribution of light charged particles. The effect of different types and size rapidity distributions is studied in elliptical flow. The elliptical flow patterns show important role of the nearby spectator matter on the participant zone. This role is further explained on the basis of passing time of the spectator and expansion time of the participant zone. The transition from the in-plane to out-of-plane is observed only when the mid-rapidity region is included in the rapidity bin, otherwise no transition occurs. The transition energy is found to be highly sensitive towards the size of the rapidity bin, while weakly on the type of the rapidity distribution. The theoretical results are also compared with the experimental findings and are found in good agreement.

Influence of nucleon-nucleon collisions on multi-fragmentation and nuclear flow

The present thesis deals with the theoretical study of multi-fragmentation and its related phenomena's like directed transverse flow, rapidity distribution, elliptical flow and nuclear stopping in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions for asymmetric colliding nuclei. We aim to discuss the role of Coulomb interactions, nuclear equations of state (NEOS) and various rapidity bins by taking mass asymmetry into account.

Phase space analysis of fragmentation and role of mass asymmetry

Based on the quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) picture, we aim to understand heavy-ion collisions in terms of participant spectator matter leading to various fragments of different sizes. The study is performed for symmetric as well as asymmetric reaction at E = 200 MeV/nucleon for central collisions. Our results highlight the importance of fragmentation criterion in terms of light mass fargments which are a part of participant matter and intermediate mass fragments which are coming from the spectator region.

Isospin dependence of balance energy in heavy-ion collisions

Based on the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) picture, we attempt to understand the nature of transverse flow in $_{28}Ni^{58}+_{28}Ni^{58}$ and $_{26}Fe^{58}+_{26}Fe^{58}$ systems at wide range of energies and impact parameters. The isospin dependence of balance energy in transverse flow is clearly visible. The results are compared with the experimental data available.

Probing the effect of different cross-sections in asymmetric collisions

We present a complete systematic theoretical study of multifragmentation for asymmetric colliding nuclei for heavy-ion reactions in the energy range between 50 MeV/nucleon and 1000 MeV/nucleon by using isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. We have observed an interesting outcome for asymmetric colliding nuclei. The comparison between the symmetric and asymmetric colliding nuclei for the isospin independent cross section and isospin dependent cross section has been studied. We have found the pronounced effect of different cross section and mass asymmetry on the nuclear reaction dynamics.

Study of Coulomb interactions at VECC energies

we study the effect of Coulomb interactions on balance energy for various colliding nuclei in terms of mass asymmetry. This study shows that the balance energy is affected by the Coulomb interactions as well as different nuclear equations of state. The preliminary results calculated theoretically will be of great use for scientists at VECC. This study is further in progress.

Study of elliptical flow at VECC-SCC500 energies

We study the transverse momentum dependence of elliptical flow at VECC energies by using the projectiles having masses lying between 16 and 56 units. The detailed study in this direction will be fruitful for experimentlists.

To Study the effects of isospin cross section on mass asymmetric nuclear reactions

We studied the effect of cross section on mass asymmetric systems. The mass asymmetry of a reaction can be defined by the asymmetry parameter η = |(AT - AP)/(AT + AP)|; [1] where AT and AP are the masses of the target and projectile, respectively. The η = 0 corresponds to the symmetric reactions, whereas non-zero values of η define different asymmetries of a reaction. Reactions include 208Pb82 + 208Pb82 having η = 0, 40Ca20 + 208Pb82 having η = 0.6 and 12C6 + 197Au79 having η = 0.8 This work has been carried out within the frame work of isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model.

Energy of vanishing flow in heavy-ion collisions: Role of Coulomb interactions and asymmetry of a reaction

We aim to understand the role of Coulomb interactions as well as of different equations of state on the disappearance of transverse flow for various asymmetric reactions leading to same total mass. For the present study, the total mass of the system is kept constant (ATOT = 152) and asymmetry of the reaction is varied between 0.2 and 0.7. We find that the contribution of mean-field at low incident energies is more for nearly symmetric systems, while the trend is opposite at higher incident energies. The Coulomb interactions as well as different equations of state are found to affect the balance energy significantly for larger asymmetric reactions.

On the elliptical flow in asymmetric collisions and nuclear equation of state

We here present the results of elliptical flow for the collision of different asymmetric nuclei (10Ne20 +13 Al27, 18Ar40 +21 Sc45, 30Zn64 +28 Ni58, 36Kr86 +41 Nb93) by using the Quantum Molecular Dynamics (QMD) model. General features of elliptical flow are investigated with the help of theoretical simulations. The simulations are performed at different beam energies between 40 and 105 MeV/nucleon. A significant change can be seen from in-plane to out-of-plane elliptical flow of different fragments with incident energy. A comparison with experimental data is also made. Further, we predict, for the first time that, elliptical flow for different kind of fragments follow power law dependence ? C(Atot)? for asymmetric systems.

On the nuclear stopping in asymmetric colliding nuclei

Using an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model, nuclear stopping is analyzed in asymmetric colliding channels by keeping the total mass fixed. The calculations have been carried by varying the asymmetry of the colliding pairs with different neutron-proton ratios in center of mass energy 250 MeV/nucleon and by switching off the effect of Coulomb interactions. We find sizable effect of asymmetry of colliding pairs on the stopping and therefore on the equilibrium reached in a reaction.

On the elliptical flow and asymmetry of the colliding nuclei

A study of elliptical flow is presented with respect to the asymmetry of colliding nuclei using the reactions of 24Cr50 +44 Ru102, 16S32 +50 Sn120 and 8O16 +54 Xe136 at incident energies between 50 and 250 MeV/nucleon within the framework of isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics model. For the present analysis, total mass of the colliding pairs is kept fixed and asymmetry is varied as ? = 0.2, 0.3, 0.7. The elliptical flow shows a transition from in-plane to out-of-plane in the mid rapidity region with incident energy. The transition energy is found to increase with the asymmetry for lighter fragments.

Mass independence and asymmetry of the reaction: Multi-fragmentation as an example

We present our recent results on the fragmentation by varying the mass asymmetry of the reaction between 0.2 and 0.7 at an incident energy of 250 MeV/nucleon. For the present study, the total mass of the system is kept constant (ATOT = 152) and mass asymmetry of the reaction is defined by the asymmetry parameter (? = | (AT - AP)/(AT + AP) |). The measured distributions are shown as a function of the total charge of all projectile fragments, Zbound. We see an interesting outcome for rise and fall in the production of intermediate mass fragments (IMFs) for large asymmetric colliding nuclei. This trend, however, is completely missing for large asymmetric nuclei. Therefore, experiments are needed to verify this prediction.

Systematic study of multi-fragmentation in asymmetric colliding nuclei

We present a complete systematically theoretical study of multifragmentation for asymmetric colliding nuclei for heavy-ion reactions in the energy range between 50 MeV/nucleon and 600 MeV/nucleon by using soft and hard equations of state. This study is performed within an isospindependent quantum molecular dynamics model. To see the effect of mass asymmetry, simulations are carried out in the absence of Coulomb interactions. Coulomb interactions enhances the production of fragments by about 20%. We envision an interesting outcome for large asymmetric colliding nuclei. Although nearly symmetric nuclei depict a well known trend for rising and falling with a peak around E= 100 MeV/nucleon, this trend, however, is completely missing for large asymmetric nuclei. Therefore, experiments are needed to verify this prediction.
