On a pipeline pressure drop model for nonideal, compressible, gas mixture flow with application to pipeline flow of natural gas-hydrogen blends

This work presents a novel, dimensionless model that results in a dimensionless algebraic equation that can be used to quantify the pressure drop associated with the steady state, isothermal flow through a straight, horizontal pipeline, of a compressible gas mixture whose thermodynamic behavior is described for comparison purposes by ideal gas (IG) and nonideal gas generic cubic (GC) equation of state (EOS) models. A solution strategy, that uses the aforementioned dimensionless algebraic equation, is then presented that quantifies the pipeline pressure drop for hydrogen containing mixtures. Two case studies are presented to illustrate the pressure drop dependence on the hydrogen mole fraction of a binary, methane hydrogen mixture, and a natural gas hydrogen mixture with a real life natural gas composition containing eight species.

A Game Theoretic Approach to Sustainizability Over Sets and its application to a multi-species population model

In this work, a theorem is first proved which presents a game theoretic formulation of a necessary and sufficient sustainizability over a set condition for a general system described by ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Then, two additional theorems are proved for the n-species Gause-Lotka-Volterra (GLV) population model, establishing necessary and sufficient sustainability and sustainizability conditions over rectangular sets. Three case studies on the May-Leonard, 3-species, GLV model are then presented to illustrate the power of the above Theorems. In two of these case studies (2 and 3), it is shown that a particular instance of the 3-species, GLV model is unsustainable but sustainizable through allowable action.

Strict Detailed Balance is Unnecessary in Monte Carlo Simulation

Detailed balance is an overly strict condition to ensure a valid Monte Carlo simulation. We show that, under fairly general assumptions, a Monte Carlo simulation need satisfy only the weaker balance condition. Not only does our proof show that sequential updating schemes are correct, but also it establishes the correctness of a whole class of new methods that simply leave the Boltzmann distribution invariant.
