A free-group valued invariant of free knots

The aim of the present paper is to construct series of invariants of free knots (flat virtual knots, virtual knots) valued in free groups (and also free products of cyclic groups). (Some minor mistakes are corrected)

On biquandles for the groups $G_n^k$ and surface singular braid monoid

The groups $G_n^k$ were defined by V. O. Manturov in order to describe dynamical systems in configuration systems. In the paper we consider two applications of this theory: we define a biquandle structure on the groups $G_n^k$, and construct a homomorphism from the surface singular braid monoid to the group $G_n^2$.

The groups $G_{k+1}^{k}$ and fundamental groups of configuration spaces

In \cite{HigherGnk}, the author has constructed natural maps from fundamental groups of topological spaces (restricted configuration spaces) to the groups $G_{n}^{k}$. In the present paper, we show that in the case of $n=k+1$, the group $G_{k+1}^{k}$ is isomorphic to the fundamental group of some (quotient space of) some configuration space. In particular, this leads to the solution of word and conjugacy problems in $G_{4}^{3}$ and sheds light on $G_{k+1}^{k}$ for higher $k$.

Additional gradings on generalisations of Khovanov homology and invariants of embedded surfaces

We define additional gradings on two generalisations of Khovanov homology (one due to the first author, the other due to the second), and use them to define invariants of various kinds of embeddings. These include invariants of links in thickened surfaces and of surfaces embedded in thickened $3$-manifolds. In particular, the invariants of embedded surfaces are expressed in terms of certain diagrams related to the thickened $3$-manifold, so that we refer to them as picture-valued invariants. This paper contains the first instance of such invariants for $2$-dimensional objects. The additional gradings are defined using cohomological and homotopic information of surfaces: using this information we decorate the smoothings of the standard Khovanov cube, before transferring the decorations into algebra.

Invariants of Classical Braids Valued in $G_{n}^{2}$

The aim of the present note is to construct invariants of the Artin braid group valued in $G_{N}^{2}$, and further study of groups related to $G_{n}^{3}$. In the groups $G_{n}^{2}$, the word problem is solved; these groups are much simpler than $G_{n}^{3}$.

New Parities and Coverings over Free Knots

In the present paper, we develop the parity theory invented in \cite{ManSb}; we construct new parities for two-component (virtual and free) links. New parities significantly depend on geometrical properties of diagrams; in particular, they are mutation-sensitive. New parities can be used practically in all problems, where parities were previously applied.

A Note on a Map from Knots to $2$-Knots

We construct a map from knots to (abstract) 2-knots which can be extended to higher dimensions; this map is the natural "knot" counterpart for "braid" theory of groups $G_{n}^{k}$.

On Groups $G_{n}^{2}$ and Coxeter Groups

In the present paper, we prove that the group $G_{n}^{2}$ of free $n$-strand braids is isomorphic to a subgroup of a semidirect product of some Coxeter group that we denote by $C(n,2)$ and the symmetric group $S_{n}$.

An elementary proof that classical braids embed into virtual braids

The aim of the present note is to show that the natural map from classical braids to virtual braids is an inclusion; this proof does not use any complete invariants of classical braids; it is based on the projection from virutal braids to classical braids (similar to the one given in \cite{Projection}); this projection is the idenitiy map on the set of virtual braids. The projection is well defined not only for the virtual braid group but also for the quotient group of the virtual (pure) braid group by the so-called virtualization move. The idea of this projection is closely related to the notion of parity and to the groups $G_{n}^{k}$, introduced by the author.

On braids and groups $G_n^k$

In [V.O. Manturov, Non-reidemeister knot theory and its applications in dynamical systems, geometry, and topology, arxiv:1501.05208] the first named author gave the definition of $k$-free braid groups $G_n^k$. Here we establish connections between free braid groups, classical braid groups and free groups: we describe explicitly the homomorphism from (pure) braid group to $k$-free braid groups for important cases $k=3,4$. On the other hand, we construct a homomorphism from (a subgroup of) free braid groups to free groups. The relations established would allow one to construct new invariants of braids and to define new powerful and easily calculated complexities for classical braid groups.

One-Term Parity Bracket For Braids

In previous papers, the author realized the following principle for many knot theories: if a knot diagram is complicated enough then it reproduces itself, i.e., is a subdiagram of any other diagram equivalent to it. This principle is realized by diagram-valued invariants [ ] of knots such that [K]=K. It turns out that in the case of free braids, the same principle can be realized an unexpectedly easy way by a one-term invariant formula.

Non-Reidemeister Knot Theory and Its Applications in Dynamical Systems, Geometry, and Topology

Classical knot theory deals with {\em diagrams} and {\em invariants}. By means of horizontal {\em trisecants}, we construct a new theory of classical braids with invariants valued in {\em pictures}. These pictures are closely related to diagrams of the initial object. The main tool is the notion of {\em free $k$-braid group}. In the simplest case, for free $2$-braids, the word problem and the conjugacy problem can be solved by finding the minimal representative, which can be thought of as a graph, and is unique, as such. We prove a general theorem about invariants of dynamical systems which are valued in such groups and hence, in pictures. We describe various applications of the above theory: invariants of weavings (collections of skew lines in $\R^{3}$), and many other objects in geometry and topology. In general, provided that for some topological objects (considered up to isotopy, homotopy etc) some easy axioms (coming from some dimensional constraints) hold, one can construct similar dynamical systems and picture-valued invariants.

Homotopical Khovanov homology

We modify the definition of the Khovanov complex for oriented links in a thickening of an oriented surface to obtain a triply graded homological link invariant with a new homotopical grading.

Reidemeister Moves and Groups

Recently, the author discovered an interesting class of knot-like objects called free knots. These purely combinatorial objects are equivalence classes of Gauss diagrams modulo Reidemeister moves (the same notion in the language of words was introduced by Turaev, who thought all free knots to be trivial). As it turned out, these new objects are highly non-trivial, and even admit non-trivial cobordism classes. An important issue is the existence of invariants where a diagram evaluates to itself which makes such objects "similar" to free groups: an element has its minimal representative which "lives inside" any representative equivalent to it.

Graphical Constructions for the sl(3), so(3) and G2 Invariants for Virtual Knots, Virtual Braids and Free Knots

We construct graph-valued analogues of the Kuperberg sl(3) and G2 invariants for virtual knots. The restriction of the sl(3) or G2 invariants for classical knots coincides with the usual Homflypt sl(3) invariant and G2 invariants. For virtual knots and graphs these invariants provide new graphical information that allows one to prove minimality theorems and to construct new invariants for free knots (unoriented and unlabeled Gauss codes taken up to abstract Reidemeister moves). A novel feature of this approach is that some knots are of sufficient complexity that they evaluate themselves in the sense that the invariant is the knot itself seen as a combinatorial structure. The paper generalizes these structures to virtual braids and discusses the relationship with the original Penrose bracket for graph colorings.

A Graphical Construction of the sl(3) Invariant for Virtual Knots

By generalizing the Kuperberg sl(3) bracket, we construct a graph-valued analogue of the Homflypt sl(3) invariant for virtual knots. The restriction of this invariant for classical knots coincides with the usual Homflypt sl(3) invariant, and for virtual knots and graphs it provides new information that allows one to prove minimality theorems and to construct new invariants for free knots. We formulate this new invariant for virtual braids as well, and show that it leads to the construction of a trace function on the virtual Hecke algebra. Finally, we show that the Penrose coloring bracket is a special case of the Kuperberg bracket, and we raise new questions about the extension of the present work.
