Solutions with prescribed mass for $L^2$-supercritical NLS equations under Neumann boundary conditions

In this paper, we investigate the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation with Neumann boundary conditions: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu+ λu= f(u) & {\rm in} \,~ Ω,\\ \displaystyle\frac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=0 \, &{\rm on}\,~\partial Ω\end{cases} \end{equation*} coupled with a constraint condition: \begin{equation*} \int_Ω|u|^2 dx=c, \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N(N\ge3)$ denotes a smooth bounded domain, $ν$ represents the unit outer normal vector to $\partial Ω$, $c$ is a positive constant, and $λ$ acts as a Lagrange multiplier. When the nonlinearity $f$ exhibits a general mass supercritical growth at infinity, we establish the existence of normalized solutions, which are not necessarily positive solutions and can be characterized as mountain pass type critical points of the associated constraint functional. Our approach provides a uniform treatment of various nonlinearities, including cases such as $f(u)=|u|^{p-2}u$, $|u|^{q-2}u+ |u|^{p-2}u$, and $-|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{p-2}u$, where $2<q<2+\frac{4}{N}<p< 2^*$. The result is obtained through a combination of a minimax principle with Morse index information for constrained functionals and a novel blow-up analysis for the NLS equation under Neumann boundary conditions.

A new class of evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequalities I: existence and nonsmooth optimal control

In this paper, we consider a new kind of evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequalities with feedback effect and a nonlinear bifunction which contain several (evolution) quasi-variational/hemivariational inequalities as special cases. The main contribution of this paper is twofold. The first goal is to establish a novel framework for proving the existence of solutions and the compactness of solution set to the evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequalities, under quite mild assumptions. Whereas, the second contribution is to introduce and study a nonlinear and nonsmooth optimal control problem governed by an evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequality, and then to obtain the sufficient conditions for guaranteeing the solvability of the nonlinear and nonsmooth optimal control problem under consideration. Such nonlinear and nonsmooth optimal control problem could as a useful model to explore the simultaneous distributed-boundary optimal control problems driven by evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequalities, and optimal parameters identification for evolution multivalued quasi-variational inequalities.

Convergence of least energy sign-changing solutions for logarithmic Schrödinger equations on locally finite graphs

In this paper, we study the following logarithmic Schrödinger equation \[ -Δu+λa(x)u=u\log u^2\ \ \ \ \mbox{ in }V \] on a connected locally finite graph $G=(V,E)$, where $Δ$ denotes the graph Laplacian, $λ> 0$ is a constant, and $a(x) \geq 0$ represents the potential. Using variational techniques in combination with the Nehari manifold method based on directional derivative, we can prove that, there exists a constant $λ_0>0$ such that for all $λ\geqλ_0$, the above problem admits a least energy sign-changing solution $u_λ$. Moreover, as $λ\to+\infty$, we prove that the solution $u_λ$ converges to a least energy sign-changing solution of the following Dirichlet problem \[\begin{cases} -Δu=u\log u^2~~~&\mbox{ in }Ω,\\ u(x)=0~~~&\mbox{ on }\partialΩ, \end{cases}\] where $Ω=\{x\in V: a(x)=0\}$ is the potential well.

Global multiplicity for parametric anisotropic Neumann $(p,q)$-equations

We consider a Neumann boundary value problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian plus a parametric potential term. The reaction is ``superlinear". We prove a global (with respect to the parameter) multiplicity result for positive solutions. Also, we show the existence of a minimal positive solution and finally, we produce a nodal solution.

Normalized solutions to fractional mass supercritical NLS systems with Sobolev critical nonlinearities

In this paper, we investigate the following fractional Sobolev critical nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) coupled systems: \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{lll} (-Δ)^{s} u=μ_{1} u+|u|^{2^{*}_{s}-2}u+η_{1}|u|^{p-2}u+γα|u|^{α-2}u|v|^β ~ \text{in}~ \mathbb{R}^{N},\\ (-Δ)^{s} v=μ_{2} v+|v|^{2^{*}_{s}-2}v+η_{2}|v|^{q-2}v+γβ|u|^α|v|^{β-2}v ~~\text{in}~ \mathbb{R}^{N},\\ \|u\|^{2}_{L^{2}}=m_{1}^{2} ~\text{and}~ \|v\|^{2}_{L^{2}}=m_{2}^{2}, \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $(-Δ)^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian, $N={3,4}$, $s\in(0,1)$, $μ_{1}, μ_{2}\in\mathbb{R}$ are unknown constants, which will appear as Lagrange multipliers, $2^{*}_{s}$ is the fractional Sobolev critical index, $η_{1}, η_{2}, γ, m_{1}, m_{2}>0$, $α>1, β>1$, $p, q, α+β\in(2+4s/N,2^{*}_{s}]$. Firstly, if $p, q, α+β<2^{*}_{s}$, we obtain the existence of positive normalized solution when $γ$ is big enough. Secondly, if $p=q=α+β=2^{*}_{s}$, we show that nonexistence of positive normalized solution. The main ideas and methods of this paper are scaling transformation, classification discussion and concentration-compactness principle.

Anisotropic singular Neumann equations with unbalanced growth

We consider a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian and a reaction which exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a parametric superlinear perturbation. We are looking for positive solutions. Using a combination of topological and variational tools together with suitable truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result describing the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. We also show the existence of minimal positive solutions $u_λ^*$ and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto u_λ^*$.

Double phase obstacle problems with multivalued convection and mixed boundary value conditions

In this paper, we consider a mixed boundary value problem with a double phase partial differential operator, an obstacle effect and a multivalued reaction convection term. Under very general assumptions, an existence theorem for the mixed boundary value problem under consideration is proved by using a surjectivity theorem for multivalued pseudomonotone operators together with the approximation method of Moreau-Yosida. Then, we introduce a family of the approximating problems without constraints corresponding to the mixed boundary value problem. Denoting by $\mathcal S$ the solution set of the mixed boundary value problem and by $\mathcal S_n$ the solution sets of the approximating problems, we establish the following convergence relation \begin{align*} \emptyset\neq w\text{-}\limsup\limits_{n\to\infty}{\mathcal S}_n=s\text{-}\limsup\limits_{n\to\infty}{\mathcal S}_n\subset \mathcal S, \end{align*} where $w$-$\limsup_{n\to\infty}\mathcal S_n$ and $s$-$\limsup_{n\to\infty}\mathcal S_n$ stand for the weak and the strong Kuratowski upper limit of $\mathcal S_n$, respectively.

Double phase implicit obstacle problems with convection and multivalued mixed boundary value conditions

In this paper we consider a mixed boundary value problem with a nonhomogeneous, nonlinear differential operator (called double phase operator), a nonlinear convection term (a reaction term depending on the gradient), three multivalued terms and an implicit obstacle constraint. Under very general assumptions on the data, we prove that the solution set of such implicit obstacle problem is nonempty (so there is at least one solution) and weakly compact. The proof of our main result uses the Kakutani-Ky Fan fixed point theorem for multivalued operators along with the theory of nonsmooth analysis and variational methods for pseudomonotone operators.

Nonvariational and singular double phase problems for the Baouendi-Grushin operator

In this paper we introduce a new double phase Baouendi-Grushin type operator with variable coefficients. We give basic properties of the corresponding functions space and prove a compactness result. In the second part, using topological argument, we prove the existence of weak solutions of some nonvariational problems in which this new operator is present. The present paper extends and complements some of our previous contributions related to double phase anisotropic variational integrals.

Anisotropic $(p,q)$-equations with gradient dependent reaction

We consider a Dirichlet problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian and a reaction with gradient dependence (convection). The presence of the gradient in the source term excludes from consideration a variational approach in dealing with the qualitative analysis of this problem with unbalanced growth. Using the frozen variable method and eventually a fixed point theorem, the main result of this paper establishes that the problem has a positive smooth solution.

Multiple solutions of double phase variational problems with variable exponent

This paper deals with the existence of multiple solutions for the quasilinear equation $-\mathrm{div}\,\mathbf{A}(x,\nabla u)| u| ^{α(x)-2}u=f(x,u)$ in $ \mathbb{R} ^{N}$, which involves a general variable exponent elliptic operator $\mathbf{ A}$ in divergence form. The problem corresponds to double phase anisotropic phenomena, in the sense that the differential operator has behaviors like $ | ξ| ^{q(x)-2}ξ$ for small $| ξ| $ and like $| ξ| ^{p(x)-2}ξ$ for large $ | ξ| $, where $1<α(\cdot )\leq p(\cdot )<q(\cdot )<N$. Our aim is to approach variationally the problem by using the tools of critical points theory in generalized Orlicz-Sobolev spaces with variable exponent. Our results extend the previous works Azzollini, d'Avenia, and Pomponio (2014) and Chorfi and Rădulescu (2016), from the case when exponents $p$ and $q$ are constant, to the case when $p(\cdot )$ and $% q(\cdot )$ are functions. We also substantially weaken some of their hypotheses overcome the lack of compactness by using the weighting method.

Positive solutions for the Robin $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential

We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by the Robin $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. In the reaction we have the competing effects of a strictly $(p-1)$-sublinear parametric term and of a $(p-1)$-linear and nonuniformly nonresonant term. We study the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies. We prove a bifurcation-type result for large values of the positive parameter $λ$. Also, we show that for all admissible $λ>0$, the problem has a smallest positive solution $\overline{u}_λ$ and we study the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto\overline{u}_λ$.

Robin double-phase problems with singular and superlinear terms

We consider a nonlinear Robin problem driven by the sum of $p$-Laplacian and $q$-Laplacian (i.e. the $(p,q)$-equation). In the reaction there are competing effects of a singular term and a parametric perturbation $λf(z,x)$, which is Carathéodory and $(p-1)$-superlinear at $x\in\mathbb{R},$ without satisfying the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Using variational tools, together with truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies.

Anisotropic equations with indefinite potential and competing nonlinearities

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by a variable exponent $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential term. The reaction has the competing effects of a parametric concave (sublinear) term and of a convex (superlinear) perturbation (an anisotropic concave-convex problem). We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. Also, we prove the existence of minimal positive solutions.

Existence and multiplicity of solutions for double-phase Robin problems

We consider a double phase Robin problem with a Carathéodory nonlinearity. When the reaction is superlinear but without satisfying the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, we prove an existence theorem. When the reaction is resonant, we prove a multiplicity theorem. Our approach is Morse theoretic, using the notion of homological local linking.

Nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Robin problems with indefinite potential and general reaction

We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. On the reaction term we impose conditions only near zero. Using variational methods, together with truncation and perturbation techniques and critical groups, we produce three nontrivial solutions with sign information. In the semilinear case we improve this result by obtaining a second nodal solution for a total of four nontrivial solutions. Finally, under a symmetry condition on the reaction term, we generate a whole sequence of distinct nodal solutions.

Relaxation methods for optimal control problems

We consider a nonlinear optimal control problem with dynamics described by a differential inclusion involving a maximal monotone map $A:\mathbb{R}^N\rightarrow2^{\mathbb{R}^N}$. We do not assume that $D(A)=\mathbb{R}^N$, incorporating in this way systems with unilateral constraints in our framework. We present two relaxation methods. The first one is an outgrowth of the reduction method from the existence theory, while the second method uses Young measures. We show that the two relaxation methods are equivalent and admissible.
