Automorphisms of moduli spaces of symplectic bundle

Let X be an irreducible smooth complex projective curve of genus at least 3. Fix a line bundle L on X. Let M_{Sp}(L) be the moduli space of symplectic bundles (E, ExE ---> L) on X, with the symplectic form taking values in L. We show that the automorphism group of M_{Sp}(L) is generated by automorphisms sending E to ExM, where M is a 2-torsion line bundle, and automorphisms induced by automorphisms of X.

Classification of Minimal Algebras over any Field up to Dimension 6

We give a classification of minimal algebras generated in degree 1, defined over any field $\bk$ of characteristic different from 2, up to dimension 6. This recovers the classification of nilpotent Lie algebras over $\bk$ up to dimension 6. In the case of a field $\bk$ of characteristic zero, we obtain the classification of nilmanifolds of dimension less than or equal to 6, up to $\bk$-homotopy type. Finally, we determine which rational homotopy types of such nilmanifolds carry a symplectic structure.

Ergodic solenoids and generalized currents

We introduce the concept of solenoid as an abstract laminated space. We do a thorough study of solenoids, leading to the notion of ergodic and uniquely ergodic solenoids. We define generalized currents associated with immersions of oriented solenoids with a transversal measure into smooth manifolds, generalizing Ruelle-Sullivan currents.

Ergodic solenoidal homology: density of ergodic solenoids

A measured solenoid is a laminated space endowed with a tranversal measure invariant by holonomy, as defined in arXiv:0910.2836. A measured solenoid immersed in a smooth manifold produces a closed current (known as generalized Ruelle-Sullivan current). Uniquely ergodic solenoids are those for which there is a unique (up to scalars) transversal measure. By the results in arXiv:0910.2913, for any smooth manifold, any real homology class is represented by a uniquely ergodic solenoid. In this paper, we prove that the currents associated to uniquely ergodic solenoids are dense in the space of closed currents, therefore proving the abundance of such objects.

Schwartzman cycles and ergodic solenoids

We extend Schwartzman theory beyond dimension 1 and provide a unified treatment of Ruelle-Sullivan and Schwartzman theories via Birkhoff's ergodic theorem for the class of immersions of solenoids with a trapping region.

Ergodic solenoidal homology: Realization theorem

We define generalized currents associated with immersions of abstract oriented solenoids with a transversal measure. We realize geometrically the full real homology of a compact manifold with these generalized currents, and more precisely with immersions of minimal uniquely ergodic solenoids. This makes precise and geometric De Rham's realization of the real homology by only using a restricted geometric subclass of currents.

Hodge structures of the moduli spaces of pairs

Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g\geq 2$ over the complex numbers. Fix $n\geq 2$, and an integer $d$. A pair $(E,ϕ)$ over $X$ consists of an algebraic vector bundle $E$ of rank $n$ and degree $d$ over $X$ and a section $ϕ$. There is a concept of stability for pairs which depends on a real parameter $τ$. Let $M_τ(n,d)$ be the moduli space of $τ$-semistable pairs of rank $n$ and degree $d$ over $X$. We prove that the cohomology groups of $M_τ(n,d)$ are Hodge structures isomorphic to direct summands of tensor products of the Hodge structure $H^1(X)$. This implies a similar result for the moduli spaces of stable vector bundles over $X$.

The SL(2,C)-character varieties of torus knots

Let $G$ be the fundamental group of the complement of the torus knot of type $(m,n)$. This has a presentation $G= $. We find the geometric description of the character variety $X(G)$ of characters of representations of $G$ into $SL(2,C)$.

Torelli theorem for moduli spaces of SL(r,C)-connections on a compact Riemann surface

Let $X$ be any compact connected Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 3$. For any $r\geq 2$, let $M_X$ denote the moduli space of holomorphic $SL(r,C)$-connections over $X$. It is known that the biholomorphism class of the complex variety $M_X$ is independent of the complex structure of $X$. If $g=3$, then we assume that $r\geq 3$. We prove that the isomorphism class of the variety $M_X$ determines the Riemann surface $X$ uniquely up to isomorphism. A similar result is proved for the moduli space of holomorphic $GL(r,C)$-connections on $X$. We also show that the Torelli theorem remains valid for the moduli spaces of connections, as well as those of stable vector bundles, on geometrically irreducible smooth projective curves defined over the field of real numbers.

Torelli theorem for the moduli space of framed bundles

Let X be an irreducible smooth complex projective curve of genus g>2, and let x be a fixed point. A framed bundle is a pair (E,ϕ), where E is a vector bundle over X, of rank r and degree d, and ϕ:E_x\to C^r is a non-zero homomorphism. There is a notion of (semi)stability for framed bundles depending on a parameter τ>0, which gives rise to the moduli space of τ-semistable framed bundles M^τ. We prove a Torelli theorem for M^τ, for τ>0 small enough, meaning, the isomorphism class of the one-pointed curve (X,x), and also the integer r, are uniquely determined by the isomorphism class of the variety M^τ.

Nearly hypo structures and compact Nearly Kähler 6-manifolds with conical singularities

We prove that any totally geodesic hypersurface $N^5$ of a 6-dimensional nearly Kähler manifold $M^6$ is a Sasaki-Einstein manifold, and so it has a hypo structure in the sense of \cite{ConS}. We show that any Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifold defines a nearly Kähler structure on the sin-cone $N^5\times\mathbb R$, and a compact nearly Kähler structure with conical singularities on $N^5\times [0,π]$ when $N^5$ is compact thus providing a link between Calabi-Yau structure on the cone $N^5\times [0,π]$ and the nearly Kähler structure on the sin-cone $N^5\times [0,π]$. We define the notion of {\it nearly hypo} structure that leads to a general construction of nearly Kähler structure on $N^5\times\mathbb R$. We determine {\it double hypo} structure as the intersection of hypo and nearly hypo structures and classify double hypo structures on 5-dimensional Lie algebras with non-zero first Betti number. An extension of the concept of nearly Kähler structure is introduced, which we refer to as {\it nearly half flat} SU(3)-structure, that leads us to generalize the construction of nearly parallel $G_2$-structures on $M^6\times\mathbb R$ given in \cite{BM}. For $N^5=S^5\subset S^6$ and for $N^5=S^2 \times S^3\subset S^3 \times S^3$, we describe explicitly a Sasaki-Einstein hypo structure as well as the corresponding nearly Kähler structures on $N^5\times\mathbb R$ and $N^5\times [0,π]$, and the nearly parallel $G_2$-structures on $N^5\times\mathbb R^2$ and $(N^5\times [0,π])\times [0,π]$.

Moduli spaces of parabolic $U(p,q)$-Higgs bundles

Using the $L^2$-norm of the Higgs field as a Morse function, we count the number of connected components of the moduli space of parabolic $U(p,q)$-Higgs bundles over a Riemann surface with a finite number of marked points, under certain genericity conditions on the parabolic structure. This space is homeomorphic to the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of the punctured surface in $U(p,q)$, with fixed compact holonomy classes around the marked points. We apply our results to the study of representations of the fundamental group of elliptic surfaces of general type.

On the rational homotopy type of a moduli space of vector bundles over a curve

We study the rational homotopy of the moduli space ${\mathcal N}_X$ of stable vector bundles of rank two and fixed determinant of odd degree over a compact connected Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g\geq 2$. The symplectic group $Aut(H_1(X,{\mathbb Z}))=Sp(2g,{\mathbb Z})$ has a natural action on the rational homotopy groups $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb Q}$. We prove that this action extends to an action of $Sp(2g,{\mathbb C})$ on $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb C}$. We also show that $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb C}$ is a non-trivial $Sp(2g,{\mathbb C})$-representation for each $n\geq 2g-1$. In particular, ${\mathcal N}_X$ is a rationally hyperbolic space. In the special case where $g=2$, we compute the leading $Sp(2g,{\mathbb C})$-representation occurring in $π_n({\mathcal N}_X) \otimes {\mathbb C}$, for each $n$.

Formality of Donaldson submanifolds

We introduce the concept of s-formal minimal model as an extension of formality. We prove that any orientable compact manifold M, of dimension 2n or (2n-1), is formal if and only if M is (n-1)-formal. The formality and the hard Lefschetz property are studied for the symplectic manifolds constructed by Donaldson with asymptotically holomorphic techniques. This study permits us to show an example of a Donaldson symplectic manifold of dimension eight which is formal simply connected and does not satisfy the hard Lefschetz theorem.

Ergodic solenoidal homology

We define generalized currents associated with immersions of abstract solenoids with a transversal measure. We realize geometrically the full real homology of a compact manifold with these generalized currents, and more precisely with immersions of minimal uniquely ergodic solenoids. This makes precise and geometric De Rham's realization of the real homology by only using a restricted geometric subclass of currents. These generalized currents do extend Ruelle-Sullivan and Schwartzman currents. We extend Schwartzman theory beyond dimension 1 and provide a unified treatment of Ruelle-Sullivan and Schwartzman theories via Birkhoff's ergodic theorem for the class of immersions of controlled solenoids. We develop some intersection theory of these new generalized currents that explains why the realization theorem cannot be achieved only with Ruelle-Sullivan currents.
