Linear control systems on a 4D solvable Lie group used to model primary visual cortex $V1$

In this article, we study linear control systems on a 4-dimensional solvable Lie group. Our motivation stems from the model introduced in \cite{baspinar}, which presents a precise geometric framework in which the primary visual cortex $V1$ is interpreted as a fiber bundle over the retinal plane $M$ (identified with $\mathbb{R}^{2}$), with orientation $\theta \in S^{1}$, spatial frequency $\omega \in \mathbb{R}^{+}$, and phase $\phi \in S^{1}$ as intrinsic parameters. For each fixed frequency $\omega$, this model defines a Lie group $G(\omega) = \mathbb{R}^{2} \times S^{1} \times S^{1}$, which we adopt in this work as the state space group $G$ of our linear control system. We also present new results concerning controllability and characterize the control sets associated with this class of systems.

Dynamics of linear control systems and stabilization

In this paper, we study linear control systems with positive bounded orbits. We show that the existence of positive bounded orbits imposes strong algebraic and topological constraints on the state space. In fact, a linear control system has bounded positive orbits if and only if it can be decomposed as the product of the stable and central subgroups of the drift, with the central subgroup being compact. In particular, systems with bounded positive orbits admit a compact control set, and if the system is controllable, the entire state space is a compact group. As a byproduct, we obtain a complete characterization of the internal and BIBO stability of linear control systems.

Observability of linear systems on the Heisenberg Lie group

In control theory, understanding the observability property of a system is crucial for effectively managing and controlling dynamical systems. This property empowers us to deduce the internal state of a system from its outputs over time, even when direct measurements are impossible. By harnessing observability, we can accurately estimate the complete state of a system and reconstruct its dynamics using just limited information. In this work, we will find conditions for observability of linear systems in the three dimensional Heisenberg group $\mathcal{H}$. Considering the homomorphisms between the group and its simply connected subgroups, whose kernel is denoted by $K$, we will find sufficient conditions for observability on the system using a quotient space $\mathcal{H}/K$ as the output.

Observability on the classes of non-nilpotent solvable three-dimensional Lie groups

In control theory, researchers need to understand a system's local and global behaviors in relation to its initial conditions. When discussing observability, the main focus is on the ability to analyze the system using an output space defined by an output map. In this study, our objective was to establish conditions for characterizing the observability properties of linear control systems on Lie groups. We will focus on five classes of solvable, non-nilpotent three-dimensional Lie groups, examining local and global perspectives. This analysis explores the kernels of homomorphisms between the state space and its simply connected subgroups, where the output is projected onto the quotient space.

Controllability of discrete-time linear systems on solvable Lie groups

The objective of this paper is to study the controllability of discrete-time linear control systems in solvable Lie groups. In the special case of nilpotent Lie groups, a necessary and sufficient condition for controllability is established. Furthermore, the class of discrete-time linear systems in the two-dimensional affine Lie group is constructed and a condition for controllability of these systems is also stated.

Control sets of linear control systems on $\R^2$. The real case

In this paper, we study the dynamical behavior of a linear control system on $\R^2$ when the associated matrix has real eigenvalues. Different from the complex case, we show that the position of the control zero relative to the control range can have a strong interference in such dynamics if the matrix is not invertible. In the invertible case, we explicitly construct the unique control set with a nonempty interior.

Minimal-time trajectories of a linear control system on a homogeneous space of the 2D Lie group

Through the Pontryagin maximum principle, we solve a minimal-time problem for a linear control system on a cylinder, considered as a homogeneous space of the solvable Lie group of dimension two. The main result explicitly shows the existence of an optimal trajectory connecting every couple of arbitrary states on the manifold. It also gives a way to calculate the corresponding minimal time. Finally, the system admits points with two distinct minimal-time trajectories connecting them.

Control sets of linear control systems on $\mathbb{R}^2$. The complex case

This paper explicitly computes the unique control set $D$ with non-empty interior of a linear control system on $\mathbb{R}^2$, when the associated matrix has complex eigenvalues. It turns out that the closure of $D$ coincides with the the region delimited by a computable periodic orbit $\mathcal{O}$ of the system.

Dynamics of LCSs on the group of proper motions

This article describes the control behavior of any linear control systems on the group of proper motions $SE(2)$. It characterizes the controllability property and the control sets of the system.

Central periodic points of linear systems

In this paper, we introduce the concept of central periodic points of a linear system as points which lies on orbits starting and ending at the central subgroup of the system. We show that this set is bounded if and only if the central subgroup is compact. Moreover, if the system admits a control set containing the identity element of $G$ then, the set of central periodic points, coincides with its interior.

Jordan decomposition and the recurrent set of flows of automorphisms

In this paper we show that any linear vector field $\mathcal{X}$ on a connected Lie group $G$ admits a Jordan decomposition and the recurrent set of the associated ow of automorphisms is given as the intersection of the fixed points of the hyperbolic and nilpotent components of its Jordan decomposition.

Weak convergence of robust functions on topological groups

In this paper we introduce a weak version of level and epigraph convergence for level functions on topological spaces. In the particular case of topological groups we are able to define convolutions in the set of level functions and show that any such function is the limit in level and epigraph of robust functions.

Control sets of linear systems on semi-simple Lie groups

In this paper we study the main properties of control sets with nonempty interior of linear control systems on semisimple Lie groups. We show that, unlike the solvable case, linear control systems on semisimple Lie groups may have more than one control set with nonempty interior and that they are contained in right translations of the one around the identity.
