The Infrared Boundary of Perturbative QCD

Evidence is reviewed suggesting that QCD remains a perturbative theory with a (relatively) small coupling constant down to a distinct infrared boundary on perturbative physics, a boundary corresponding to the momentum scale associated with a beta-function pole.

Infrared Dynamics in Vector-Like Gauge Theories: QCD and Beyond

Pade-approximant methods are used to extract information about leading positive zeros or poles of QCD and SQCD beta-functions from the known terms of their perturbative series. For QCD, such methods are seen to corroborate the flavour-threshold behaviour obtained via lattice approaches for the occurrence of infrared-stable fixed points. All possible Pade-approximant versions of the known (one- to four-loop) terms of the QCD MS-bar beta-function series are consistent with this threshold occurring at or above n_f = 6. This conclusion continues to be true even if higher-degree Pade-approximants are introduced to accommodate an arbitrary five-loop contribution to the QCD beta-function for a given number of flavours.

Vacuum Condensates and the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of a Dirac Fermion

We address anticipated fermion-antifermion and dimension-4 gauge-field vacuum-condensate contributions to the magnetic portion of the fermion-photon vertex function in the presence of a vacuum with nonperturbative content, such as that of QCD. We discuss how inclusion of such condensate contributions may lead to a vanishing anomalous magnetic moment, in which case vacuum condensates may account for the apparent consistency between constituent quark masses characterizing baryon magnetic moments and those characterizing baryon spectroscopy.

Quark- and Gluon-Condensate Contributions to Penguin Four-Fermi Operators

The nonperturbative content of the QCD vacuum permits the occurrence of QCD-vaccum condensate contributions to penguin amplitudes. We calculate the dimension-4 $ $ and $<α_s G^2>$ contributions to the effective Wilson coefficients for penguin four-Fermi operators, and discuss how such contributions may contribute to nonleptonic B decays.

Nonperturbative QCD corrections to the effective coefficients of the four-Fermi operators

We calculate the leading nonperturbative contributions to the effective Wilson coefficient of the four-fermion operators arising from the QCD penguin, and we demonstrate how the usual perturbative one loop contribution is augmented by nonperturbative condensates. These corrections, which are obtained by quark and gluon condensate insertions into the quark loops, enter at the next-to-leading logarithm precision. Our results indicate for the charmed quark loop that the gluon condensate contribution is quite sensitive to the momentum transfer to the quark-antiquark pair.

Fermion-Antifermion Condensate Contribution to the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of a Fundamental Dirac Fermion

We consider the contribution of fermion-antifermion condensates to the anomalous magnetic moment of a fermion in a vacuum in which such condensates exist. The real part of the condensate contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment is shown to be zero. A nonzero imaginary part is obtained below the kinematic threshold for intermediate fermion-antifermion pairs. The calculation is shown to be gauge-parameter independent provided a single fermion mass characterizes both the fermion propagator and condensate-sensitive contributions, suggestive of a dynamically-generated fermion mass. The nonzero imaginary part is then argued to correspond to the kinematic production of the intermediate-state Goldstone bosons anticipated from a chiral-noninvariant vacuum. Finally, speculations are presented concerning the applicability of these results to quark electromagnetic properties.

Nonperturbative QCD contribution to gluon-gluon-eta' vertex

We investigate the momentum dependence of the g*-g-eta' vertex form factor in the presence of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum condensate. The behaviour of this form factor is crucial for, among other things, some proposed mechanisms devised to explain the large branching ratio for fast eta' production in charmless B decays observed by CLEO. We show that the leading momentum dependence of this vertex form factor is not altered when the contribution of nonperturbative quark condensate is considered.
