Kohn--Nirenberg quantization of the affine group and related examples

We show how to construct unitary dual $2$-cocycles for a class of semidirect products that exhibit many similarities with the affine group ${\rm Aff}(V)=\GL(V)\ltimes V$ of a finite dimensional vector space over a local skew field. The primary source of examples comes from Lie groups whose Lie algebras are Frobenius seaweeds. The construction builds on our earlier results and relies heavily on representation theory and an associated quantization procedure of Kohn--Nirenberg type. On the technical side, the key point is the observation that any semidirect product $G=H\ltimes V$ in our class can be presented as a double crossed product $G=P\bowtie N$ with respect to which the unique square-integrable irreducible representation of $G$ takes a particularly nice form. The Kohn--Nirenberg quantization that we construct is intimately related to a scalar Fourier transform $\CF\colon L^2(N)\to L^2(P)$ intertwining the left regular representations of $P$ and $N$ with representations defined by the dressing transformations.

Quantization of locally compact groups associated with essentially bijective $1$-cocycles

Given an extension $0\to V\to G\to Q\to1$ of locally compact groups, with $V$ abelian, and a compatible essentially bijective $1$-cocycle $\eta\colon Q\to\hat V$, we define a dual unitary $2$-cocycle on $G$ and show that the associated deformation of $\hat G$ is a cocycle bicrossed product defined by a matched pair of subgroups of $Q\ltimes\hat V$. We also discuss an interpretation of our construction from the point of view of Kac cohomology for matched pairs. Our setup generalizes that of Etingof and Gelaki for finite groups and its extension due to Ben David and Ginosar, as well as our earlier work on locally compact groups satisfying the dual orbit condition. In particular, we get a locally compact quantum group from every involutive nondegenerate set-theoretical solution of the Yang--Baxter equation, or more generally, from every brace structure. On the technical side, the key new points are constructions of an irreducible projective representation of $G$ on $L^2(Q)$ and a unitary quantization map $L^2(G)\to{\rm HS}(L^2(Q))$ of Kohn--Nirenberg type.

From projective representations to pentagonal cohomology via quantization

Given a locally compact group $G=Q\ltimes V$ such that $V$ is Abelian and such that the action of $Q$ on the Pontryagin dual $\hat V$ has a free orbit of full measure, we construct a family of unitary dual $2$-cocycles $\Omega_\omega$ (aka non-formal Drinfel'd twists) whose equivalence classes $[\Omega_\omega]\in H^2(\hat G,\mathbb T)$ are parametrized by cohomology classes $[\omega]\in H^2(Q,\mathbb T)$. We prove that the associated locally compact quantum groups are isomorphic to cocycle bicrossed product quantum groups associated to a pair of subgroups of the dual semidirect product $Q\ltimes\hat V$, both isomorphic to $Q$, and to a pentagonal cocycle $\Theta_\omega$ explicitly given in terms of the group cocycle $\omega$.

On deformations of C*-algebras by actions of Kahlerian Lie groups

We show that two approaches to equivariant strict deformation quantization of C*-algebras by actions of negatively curved Kahlerian Lie groups, one based on oscillatory integrals and the other on quantizations maps defined by dual 2-cocycles, are equivalent.

Quantization of subgroups of the affine group

Consider a locally compact group $G=Q\ltimes V$ such that $V$ is abelian and the action of $Q$ on the dual abelian group $\hat V$ has a free orbit of full measure. We show that such a group $G$ can be quantized in three equivalent ways: (1) by reflecting across the Galois object defined by the canonical irreducible representation of $G$ on $L^2(V)$; (2) by twisting the coproduct on the group von Neumann algebra of $G$ by a dual $2$-cocycle obtained from the $G$-equivariant Kohn-Nirenberg quantization of $V\times\hat V$; (3) by considering the bicrossed product defined by a matched pair of subgroups of $Q\ltimes\hat V$ both isomorphic to $Q$. In the simplest case of the $ax+b$ group over the reals, the dual cocycle in (2) is an analytic analogue of the Jordanian twist. It was first found by Stachura using different ideas. The equivalence of approaches (2) and (3) in this case implies that the quantum $ax+b$ group of Baaj-Skandalis is isomorphic to the quantum group defined by Stachura. Along the way we prove a number of results for arbitrary locally compact groups $G$. Using recent results of De Commer we show that a class of $G$-Galois objects is parametrized by certain cohomology classes in $H^2(G;\mathbb T)$. This extends results of Wassermann and Davydov in the finite group case. A new phenomenon is that already the unit class in $H^2(G;\mathbb T)$ can correspond to a nontrivial Galois object. Specifically, we show that any nontrivial locally compact group $G$ with group von Neumann algebra a factor of type I admits a canonical cohomology class of dual $2$-cocycles such that the corresponding quantization of $G$ is neither commutative nor cocommutative.

Deformation Quantization for Actions of Kählerian Lie Groups

Let $\mathbb B$ be a Lie group admitting a left-invariant negatively curved Kählerian structure. Consider a strongly continuous action $α$ of $\mathbb B$ on a Fréchet algebra $\mathcal A$. Denote by $\mathcal A^\infty$ the associated Fréchet algebra of smooth vectors for the action $α$. In the Abelian case $\mathbb B=\mathbb R^{2n}$ and $α$ isometric, Marc Rieffel proved that Weyl's operator symbol composition formula yields a deformation through Fréchet algebra structures ${\star_θ^α}_{θ\in\mathbb R}$ on $\mathcal A^\infty$. When $\mathcal A$ is a $C^\star$-algebra, every deformed algebra $(\mathcal A^\infty,\star^α_θ)$ admits a compatible pre-$C^\star$-structure. In this paper, we prove both analogous statements in the general negatively curved Kählerian group and (non-isometric) "tempered" action case. The construction relies on the one hand on combining a non-Abelian version of oscillatory integral on tempered Lie groups with geometrical objects coming from invariant WKB-quantization of solvable symplectic symmetric spaces, and, on the second hand, in establishing a non-Abelian version of the Calderòn-Vaillancourt Theorem. In particular, we give an oscillating kernel formula for WKB-star products on symplectic symmetric spaces that fiber over an exponential Lie group.

Quantization of the affine group of a local field

For a non Archimedean local field which is not of characteristic $2$, nor an extension of $\mathbb Q_2$, we construct a pseudo-differential calculus covariant under a unimodular subgroup of the affine group of the field. Our phase space is a quotient group of the covariance group. Our main result is a generalisation on that context of the Calderón-Vaillancourt estimate. Our construction can be thought as the non Archimedean version of Unterberger's Fuchs calculus and our methods are mainly based on Wigner functions and on coherent states transform.

Deformation Quantization for actions of $\mathbb{Q}_p^{d}$

The main objective of this article is to develop the theory of deformation of $C^*$-algebras endowed with a group action, from the perspective of non-formal equivariant quantization. This program, initiated in \cite{Bieliavsky-Gayral}, aims to extend Rieffel's deformation theory \cite{Ri} for more general groups than $\mathbb R^d$. In \cite{Bieliavsky-Gayral}, we have constructed such a theory for a class of non-Abelian Lie groups. In the present article, we study the somehow opposite situation of Abelian but non-Lie groups. More specifically, we construct here a deformation theory of $C^*$-algebras endowed with an action of a finite dimensional vector space over a non-Archimedean local field of characteristic different from 2. At the root of our construction stands the $p$-adic version of the Weyl quantization introduced by Haran and further extended by Bechata and Unterberger.

Dixmier traces and extrapolation description of noncommutative Lorentz spaces

We study the relationships between Dixmier traces, zeta-functions and traces of heat semigroups beyond the dual of the Macaev ideal and in the general context of semifinite von Neumann algebras. We show that the correct framework for this investigation is that of operator Lorentz spaces possessing an extrapolation description. We demonstrate the applicability of our results to Hörmander-Weyl pseudo-differential calculus. In that context, we prove that the Dixmier trace of a pseudo-differential operator coincide with the `Dixmier integral' of its symbol.

Spectral geometry of the Moyal plane with harmonic propagation

We construct a `non-unital spectral triple of finite volume' out of the Moyal product and a differential square root of the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian. We find that the spectral dimension of this triple is d but the KO-dimension is 2d. We add another Connes-Lott copy and compute the spectral action of the corresponding U(1)-Yang-Mills-Higgs model. We find that the `covariant coordinate' involving the gauge field combines with the Higgs field to a unified potential, yielding a deep unification of discrete and continuous parts of the geometry.

The scattering problem for a noncommutative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We investigate scattering properties of a Moyal deformed version of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in an even number of space dimensions. With rather weak conditions on the degree of nonlinearity, the Cauchy problem for general initial data has a unique globally defined solution, and also has soliton solutions if the interaction potential is suitably chosen. We demonstrate how to set up a scattering framework for equations of this type, including appropriate decay estimates of the free time evolution and the construction of wave operators defined for small scattering data in the general case and for arbitrary scattering data in the rotationally symmetric case.

Fourier analysis on the affine group, quantization and noncompact Connes geometries

We find the Stratonovich-Weyl quantizer for the nonunimodular affine group of the line. A noncommutative product of functions on the half-plane, underlying a noncompact spectral triple in the sense of Connes, is obtained from it. The corresponding Wigner functions reproduce the time-frequency distributions of signal processing. The same construction leads to scalar Fourier transformations on the affine group, simplifying and extending the Fourier transformation proposed by Kirillov.

Dixmier traces on noncompact isospectral deformations

We extend the isospectral deformations of Connes, Landi and Dubois-Violette to the case of Riemannian spin manifolds carrying a proper action of the noncompact abelian group $R^l$. Under deformation by a torus action, a standard formula relates Dixmier traces of measurable operators to integrals of functions on the manifold. We show that this relation persists for actions of $R^l$, under mild restrictions on the geometry of the manifold which guarantee the Dixmier traceability of those operators.

Déformations isospectrales non compactes et théorie quantique des champs

The aim of this thesis is to study the isopectral deformations from the point of view of Alain Connes' noncommutative geometry. This class of quantum spaces constituts a curved space generalisation of Moyal planes and noncommutative tori. First of all, we look at the construction of non-unital spectral triples, for which we propose modified axioms. We then check that Moyal planes fit into this axiomatic framework, and give the keypoints for the construction of non-unital spectral triples from generic non-compact isospectral deformations. To this end, numerous analytical tools on non-compact Riemannian manifolds are developped. Thanks to Dixmier traces computations, we show that their spectral and classical dimensions coincide. In a second time, we study certain features of quantum fields theory on curved isospectral deformations, with a particular view on the ultraviolet infrared mixing phenomenon. We show its intrinsic nature for all such quantum spaces (compacts or not, periodic or not deformations), and we study its consequences on the renormalisability. In particular, the behaviour of Green functions of the planar and non-planar sectors is understood in term of on- and off-diagonal heat kernel contributions. We also see new or inner manifestations of the UV/IR mixing, related to the geometric properties of those quantum spaces and to the arithmetic nature of the deformation parameters.

Heat-Kernel Approach to UV/IR Mixing on Isospectral Deformation Manifolds

We work out the general features of perturbative field theory on noncommutative manifolds defined by isospectral deformation. These (in general curved) `quantum spaces', generalizing Moyal planes and noncommutative tori, are constructed using Rieffel's theory of deformation quantization for action of $\R^l$. Our framework, incorporating background field methods and tools of QFT in curved spaces, allows to deal both with compact and non-compact spaces, as well as with periodic or not deformations, essentially in the same way. We compute the quantum effective action up to one loop for a scalar theory, showing the different UV/IR mixing phenomena for different kinds of isospectral deformations. The presence and behavior of the non-planar parts of the Green functions is understood simply in terms of off-diagonal heat kernel contributions. For periodic deformations, a Diophantine condition on the noncommutativity parameters is found to play a role in the analytical nature of the non-planar part of the one-loop reduced effective action. Existence of fixed points for the action may give rise to a new kind of UV/IR mixing.

The spectral action for Moyal planes

Extending a result of D.V. Vassilevich, we obtain the asymptotic expansion for the trace of a "spatially" regularized heat operator associated with a generalized Laplacian defined with integral Moyal products. The Moyal hyperplanes corresponding to any skewsymmetric matrix $Θ$ being spectral triples, the spectral action introduced in noncommutative geometry by A. Chamseddine and A. Connes is computed. This result generalizes the Connes-Lott action previously computed by Gayral for symplectic $Θ$.
