A Gauge Field Theory for Continuous Spin Tachyons

We present a gauge field theory for the continuous spin tachyonic representation of the Poincaré group. It was obtained by a dimensional reduction of a complex gauge field theory for a continuous spin particle in a cotangent bundle over Minkowski space-time. Some cubic vertices are also presented and their properties discussed. In the massless limit it reduces to a gauge theory for a continuous spin particle with a global $U(1)$ symmetry.

Virtual Exchange of Continuous Spin Particles

We discuss the long range interactions mediated by continuous spin particles. We start by deriving the propagator for a continuous spin particle using the antifield BRST formalism. Then we couple the continuous spin particle to a conserved current to find the interaction energy due to static disturbances of the vacuum. For sources having charges of the same sign we find an attractive force at small distances and a repulsive force at large distances. We also discuss the conserved current degrees of freedom.

Bosonic $η$-deformations of Non-integrable Backgrounds

We consider the non-integrable bosonic backgrounds $W_{2,4}\times T^{1,1}$ and $AdS_5\times T^{1,1}$ and derive their bosonic $η$-deformed versions using an $r$-matrix that solves the modified Yang-Baxter equation obtaining new integrable deformed backgrounds.

Bosonic $η$-deformed $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$ Background

We build the bosonic $η$-deformed $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$ background generated by an $r$-matrix that satisfies the modified classical Yang-Baxter equation. In a special limit we find that it is the gravity dual of the noncommutative ABJM theory.

String Backgrounds of the Yang-Baxter Deformed $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$ Superstring

We build string backgrounds for Yang-Baxter deformations of the $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$ superstring generated by $r$-matrices satisfying the classical Yang-Baxter equation. We obtain the metric and the NS-NS two-form of the gravity dual corresponding to noncommutative and dipole deformations of ABJM theory, as well as a deformed background with Schrödinger symmetry. The first two backgrounds may also be found by TsT transformations while for the last background we get a new family of non-relativistic ABJM theories with Schrödinger symmetry.

Yang-Baxter Deformations of the $AdS_5\times T^{1,1}$ Superstring and their Backgrounds

We consider three-parameter Yang-Baxter deformations of the $AdS_5\times T^{1,1}$ superstring for abelian $r$-matrices which are solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation. We find two new backgrounds which are dual to the dipole deformed Klebanov-Witten gauge theory and to the nonrelativistic Klebanov-Witten gauge theory with Schrödinger symmetry

Yang-Baxter deformations of the $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$ superstring sigma model

The gravity dual of $β$-deformed ABJM theory can be obtained by a TsT transformation of $AdS_4\times\mathbb{CP}^3$. We present a supercoset construction of $\mathbb{CP}^3$ to obtain this gravity dual theory as a Yang-Baxter deformation. This is done by selecting a convenient combination of Cartan generators in order to get an Abelian $r$-matrix satisfying the classical Yang-Baxter equation. Our results provide another illustration of the relation between Abelian $r$-matrices and TsT transformations.

Remarks on a Gauge Theory for Continuous Spin Particles

We discuss in a systematic way the gauge theory for a continuous spin particle proposed by Schuster and Toro. We show that it is naturally formulated in a cotangent bundle over Minkowski spacetime where the gauge field depends on the spacetime coordinate ${x^μ}$ and on a covector $η_μ$. We discuss how fields can be expanded in $η_μ$ in different ways and how these expansions are related to each other. The field equation has a derivative of a Dirac delta function with support on the $η$-hyperboloid $η^2+1=0$ and we show how it restricts the dynamics of the gauge field to the $η$-hyperboloid. We then show that on-shell the field carries one single irreducible unitary representation of the Poincaré group for a continuous spin particle. We also show how the field can be used to build a set of covariant equations found by Wigner describing the wave function of one-particle states for a continuous spin particle. Finally we show that it is not possible to couple minimally a continuous spin particle to a background abelian gauge field, and make some comments about the coupling to gravity.

Gauge Theory Formulations for Continuous and Higher Spin Fields

We consider a gauge theory action for continuous spin particles formulated in a spacetime enlarged by an extra coordinate recently proposed by Schuster and Toro. It requires one scalar gauge field and has two local symmetries. We show that the local symmetries are reducible in the sense that the parameters also have a local symmetry. Using reducibility we get an action which has two scalar gauge fields and a reducible but simpler local symmetry. We then show how this action and equations of motion are related to previously proposed formulations for continuous spin particles and higher spin theories. We also discuss the physical contents of each formulation to reveal the physical degrees of freedom.

Very Special Relativity and Lorentz Violating Theories

Very special relativity (VSR) keeps the main features of special relativity but breaks rotational invariance. It can not be regarded as a fundamental symmetry of nature because many observed phenomena depend on the existence of Lorentz boosts. However, within the scope of Lorentz violating theories it can have a role since it is breaking Lorentz symmetry in a very mild way. In this context, when VSR terms are incorporated in a Lorentz invariant theory several possibilities are allowed. In order to generate such terms systematically we start with a formulation for a spinning particle in VSR. It is then coupled minimally to the electromagnetic field and a gyromagnetic factor is added to give rise to a magnetic moment. In order to analyze the effects of VSR in Thomas precession a spin vector is then proposed in terms of the spinning particle variables. It is then found the VSR contributions to the equation which determines the spin precession angular velocity.

Ambiguities in the Seiberg-Witten Map and Emergent Gravity

The theta expansion of the Seiberg-Witten map has ambiguities which can be removed by a gauge transformation and/or a field redefinition. In the context of emergent gravity such a field redefinition changes the emerging metric and requires the presence of non-minimal gravitational couplings. It also requires that a real scalar field becomes a scalar density and allows the introduction of a potential. We also find that the potential can have only one term and that a quartic interaction is not allowed. Even though the metric depends on the ambiguity we show that the dispersion relation does not present any sign of it. A proposal for an exact Seiberg-Witten map is used to derive the full metric going beyond the linearized limit.

Non Abelian Fields in Very Special Relativity

We study non-Abelian fields in the context of very special relativity (VSR). For this we define the covariant derivative and the gauge field gauge transformations, both of them involving a fixed null vector $n_μ$, related to the VSR breaking of the Lorentz group to the Hom(2) or Sim(2) subgroups. As in the Abelian case the gauge field becomes massive. Moreover we show that the VSR gauge transformations form a closed algebra. We then write actions coupling the gauge field to various matter fields (bosonic and fermionic). We mention how we can use the spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism to give a flavor dependent VSR mass to the gauge bosons. Finally, we quantize the model using the BRST formalism to fix the gauge. The model is renormalizable and unitary and for non abelian groups, asymptotically free.

The Transition Amplitude for 2T Physics

We present the transition amplitude for a particle moving in a space with two times and D space dimensions having a Sp(2,R) local symmetry and an SO(D,2) rigid symmetry. It was obtained from the BRST-BFV quantization with a unique gauge choice. We show that by constraining the initial and final points of this amplitude to lie on some hypersurface of the D+2 space the resulting amplitude reproduces well known systems in lower dimensions. This provides an alternative physical interpretation for two times physics which is derived in a single framework.

Notes on beta-deformations of the pure spinor superstring in AdS(5) x S(5)

We study the properties of the vertex operator for the beta-deformation of the superstring in AdS(5) x S(5) in the pure spinor formalism. We discuss the action of supersymmetry on the infinitesimal beta-deformation, the application of the homological perturbation theory, and the relation between the worldsheet description and the spacetime supergravity description.

On the S-Matrix of the Faddeev-Reshetikhin Model

The Faddeev-Reshetikhin model arises as a truncation of strings in AdS_5XS^5. Its two particle S-matrix should be obtained by diagonalizing its Hamiltonian. However this does not happen in a straightforward way. There is a Lorentz violating term in the Hamiltonian which prevents its plain diagonalization. We then find out the most general quartic Hamiltonian that can be diagonalized. It includes the bosonic Thirring model as well as another model which shares the same two particle S-matrix as the Faddeev-Reshetikhin model. We also find a one parameter family of interactions which lead to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians which have unitary S-matrices and are PT symmetric.
