Odd-primary torsion in the homology of unordered configurations on the torus

The main object of study of this paper is $B_k(Σ_1)$, the unordered configuration space of $k$ points in the torus $Σ_1$. First, we produce a marked-point transfer argument which, combined with Chen--Zhang's theorem, establishes that $H_*(B_k (Σ_1);\mathbb{Z})$ has no $p$-torsion for $k\leq 2p-1$. Secondly, at the threshold $k=2p$, we prove that $H_{2p-2}(B_{2p}(Σ_1);\mathbb{Z})$ has $p$-torsion if and only if $p\geq 5$. For $p\geq5$, the class is the image under puncture filling of a generator of the Bianchi--Stavrou torsion group $\mathbb{Z}/p$ of the once-punctured torus; for $p=3$, Napolitano's calculation shows that this punctured class dies after filling. Finally, we also prove that $H_{2p}(B_{2p}(Σ_1);\mathbb{Z})$ and $H_{2p+1}(B_{2p}(Σ_1);\mathbb{Z})$ have no $p$-torsion for every odd $p$.

Homology of configuration spaces in positive characteristic via point-set constructions

The first goal of this paper is to provide concrete chain complexes computing the homology of (unordered) configuration spaces of manifolds in positive characteristic, lifting a theorem by Knudsen to the model category level. We make them fully explicit and provide a computer program to compute their homology. Our methods also allow us to construct several new spectral sequences converging to these homology groups. Finally, we conjecture that this equivalence of chain complexes can be promoted to an equivalence of \emph{twisted} $\EE_\infty$-coalgebras in right $\EE_d$-modules, and we explain how this conjecture would imply the homotopy invariance of the $\EE_d$-homotopy type of configuration spaces in positive characteristic via new ``twist'' and ``detwist'' functors.

Point-set models for homotopy coherent coalgebras

We show a first rectification result for homotopy chain coalgebras over a field. On the one hand, we consider the $\infty$-category obtained by localizing differential graded coalgebras over an operad with respect to quasi-isomorphisms; on the other, we give a general definition of an $\infty$-category of coalgebras over an enriched $\infty$-operad. We show by induction over cell attachments that these two $\infty$-categories are in fact equivalent when the operad is cofibrant. This yields explicit point-set models for $\mathbb{E}_n$-coalgebras and $E_\infty$-coalgebras in the derived $\infty$-category of chain complexes over a field, and an explicit point-set model for the cellular chains functor with its $E_\infty$-coalgebra structure. After Bachmann--Burklund, this gives a point-set algebraic model for nilpotent $p$-adic homotopy types.

The algebraic structures of social organizations: the operad of cooperative games

The main goal of this paper is to settle a conceptual framework for cooperative game theory in which the notion of composition/aggregation of games is the defining structure. This is done via the mathematical theory of algebraic operads: we start by endowing the collection of all cooperative games with any number of players with an operad structure, and we show that it generalises all the previous notions of sums, products and compositions of games considered by Owen, Shapley, von Neumann and Morgenstern, and many others. Furthermore, we explicitly compute this operad in terms of generators and relations, showing that the Möbius transform map induces a canonical isomorphism between the operad of cooperative games and the operad that encodes commutative triassociative algebras. In other words, we prove that any cooperative game is a linear combination of iterated compositions of the 2-player bargaining game and the 2-player dictator games. We show that many interesting classes of games (simple, balanced, capacities a.k.a fuzzy measures and convex functions, totally monotone, etc) are stable under compositions, and thus form suboperads. In the convex case, this gives by the submodularity theorem a new operad structure on the family of all generalized permutahedra. Finally, we focus on how solution concepts in cooperative game theory behave under composition: we study the core of a composite and describe it in terms of the core of its components, and we give explicit formulas for the Shapley value and the Banzhaf index of a compound game.

Unifying Koszul dualities via point-set models

The classical bar-cobar adjunction between dg algebras and dg coalgebras goes back to the origins of differential homological algebra as developed by Cartan, Eilenberg, Moore, and many others, and is part of the broader framework of Koszul duality. In recent years, several $\infty$-categorical analogues of this adjunction have been developed, notably by Lurie, Francis--Gaitsgory, and Heuts. However, there is no comparison in the literature between the classical chain-level constructions and their higher-categorical counterparts, and in fact the two constructions are not quite compatible. In this paper we provide a unified framework relating these different forms of Koszul duality in the differential graded setting. We construct a commutative square of adjunctions, called the inclusion-restriction square, intertwining the classical operadic bar-cobar adjunction with its completed variant due to Le Grignou--Lejay. We show that this square induces an $\infty$-categorical adjunction between algebras and their Koszul dual coalgebras, recovering in particular the differential graded case of Lurie's bar-cobar adjunction, and explain precisely how our constructions relate to those of Francis--Gaitsgory and Heuts.

Higher Lie theory in positive characteristic

The main goal of this article is to develop integration theory for absolute partition $L_\infty$-algebras, which are point-set models for the (spectral) partition Lie algebras of Brantner-Mathew where infinite sums of operations are well-defined by definition. We construct a Quillen adjunction between absolute partition $L_\infty$-algebras and simplicial sets, and show that the right adjoint is a well-behaved integration functor. Points in this simplicial set are given by solutions to a Maurer-Cartan equation, and we give explicit formulas for gauge equivalences between them. We construct the analogue of the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula in this setting and show it produces an isomorphic group to the classical one over a characteristic zero field. We apply these constructions to show that absolute partition $L_\infty$-algebras encode the $p$-adic homotopy types of pointed connected finite nilpotent spaces, up to certain equivalences which we describe by explicit formulas. In particular, these formulas also allow us to give a combinatorial description of the homotopy groups of the $p$-completed spheres as solutions to a certain equation in a given degree, up to an equivalence relation imposed by elements one degree above. Finally, we construct absolute partition $L_\infty$ models for $p$-adic mapping spaces, which combined with the description of the homotopy groups gives an algebraic description of the homotopy type of these $p$-adic mapping spaces parallel to the unstable Adams spectral sequence.

Absolute algebras, contramodules, and duality squares

Absolute algebras are a new type of algebraic structures, endowed with a meaningful notion of infinite sums of operations without supposing any underlying topology. Opposite to the usual definition of operadic calculus, they are defined as algebras over cooperads. The goal of this article is to develop this new theory. First, we relate the homotopy theory of absolute algebras to the homotopy theory of usual algebras via a duality square. It intertwines bar-cobar adjunctions with linear duality adjunctions. In particular, we show that linear duality functors between types of coalgebras and types of algebras are Quillen functors and that they induce equivalences between objects with finiteness conditions on their homology. We give general comparison results between absolute types of algebras and their classical counterparts. We work out examples of this theory such as absolute associative algebras and absolute Lie algebras, and show that it includes the theory of contramodules. Campos--Petersen--Robert-Nicoud--Wierstra showed that two nilpotent Lie algebras whose universal enveloping algebras are isomorphic as associative algebras must be isomorphic. As an application of our results, we generalize their theorem to the setting of absolute Lie algebras and absolute $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebras.

A new approach to formal moduli problems

The main goal of this paper is to introduce a framework for infinitesimal deformation problems, using new methods coming from operadic calculus. We construct an adjunction between infinitesimal deformation problems over some type of algebras and their Koszul dual algebras, in any characteristic. This adjunction is an equivalence if and only if some algebras are equivalent to their completions. We give a concrete homological criterion for it. It gives us a new proof of the celebrated Lurie--Pridham theorem, as well as of many other generalizations of it. Our methods are effective, meaning they directly produce point-set models for the algebras that encode infinitesimal deformation problems.

The integration theory of curved absolute L-infinity algebras

In this article, we introduce the notion of a curved absolute $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebra, a structure that behaves like a curved $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebra where all infinite sums of operations are well-defined by definition. We develop their integration theory by introducing two new methods in integration theory: the complete Bar construction and intrinsic model category structures. They allow us to generalize all essential results of this theory quickly and from a conceptual point of view. We provide applications of our theory to rational homotopy theory, and show that curved absolute $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebras provide us with rational models for finite type nilpotent spaces without any pointed or connected assumptions. Furthermore, we show that the homology of rational spaces can be recovered as the homology of the complete Bar construction. We also construct new smaller models for rational mapping spaces without any hypothesis on the source simplicial set. Another source of applications is deformation theory: on the algebraic side, we show that curved absolute $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebras are mandatory in order to encode the deformation complexes of $\infty$-morphisms of (co)-algebras. On the geometrical side, we construct a curved absolute $\mathcal{L}_\infty$-algebra from a derived affine stack and show that it encodes the formal geometry of any finite collection of points living in any finite field extension of the base field.

Curved operadic calculus

Curved algebras are a generalization of differential graded algebras which have found numerous applications recently. The goal of this foundational article is to introduce the notion of a curved operad, and to develop the operadic calculus at this new level. The algebraic side of the curved operadic calculus provides us with universal constructions: using a new notion of curved operadic bimodules, we construct curved universal enveloping algebras. Since there is no notion of quasi-isomorphism in the curved context, we develop the homotopy theory of curved operads using new methods. This approach leads us to introduce the new notion of a curved absolute operad, which is the notion Koszul dual to counital cooperads non-necessarily conilpotent, and we construct a complete Bar-Cobar adjunction between them. We endow curved absolute operads with a suitable model category structure. We establish a duality square of duality functors which intertwines this complete Bar-Cobar construction with the Bar-Cobar adjunction between unital operads and conilpotent curved cooperads. This allows us to compute minimal cofibrant resolutions for various curved absolute operads. Using the complete Bar construction, we show a general Homotopy Transfer Theorem for curved algebras. Along the way, we construct the non-necessarily conilpotent cofree cooperad.

Homotopical operadic calculus in positive characteristic

Algebraic operads provide a powerful tool to understand the homotopy theory of the types of (co)algebras they encode. So far, the principal results and methods that this theory provides were only available in characteristic zero. The reason is that operads carry an action of all the symmetric groups, whose representation theory becomes much more involved in positive characteristic. The goal of this paper is to extend these results and methods to a positive characteristic setting. We solve the main problems that appear in this new setting by using the notion of a quasi-planar cooperad as the building block of the theory.

Symmetric operads from a planar point of view

The aim of this note is to give a detailed account of how symmetric operads can be constructed from planar (non-symmetric) operads, and to carefully spell out the algebraic interplay between these two notions. It is a companion note to the main paper "Homotopical operadic calculus in positive characteristic".

The integration theory of curved absolute homotopy Lie algebras

The main goal of this thesis is to develop the integration theory of curved homotopy Lie algebras. In the first chapter, we develop the operadic calculus needed: we encode non-necessarily conilpotent coalgebras with operads and introduce their dual notion of an algebra over a cooperad, which we call "absolute algebras". The first sections of this chapter are a state of the art, and the last three sections are made of original results. In the second chapter, we develop the new theory of curved operadic calculus, which allows us to encode curved types of algebras with curved operads. Finally, in the third chapter, we develop the integration theory of curved absolute homotopy Lie algebras using the tools introduced in the first two chapters. This new approach allows us to obtain applications to deformation theory and rational homotopy theory.
