cuVSLAM: CUDA accelerated visual odometry and mapping

Accurate and robust pose estimation is a key requirement for any autonomous robot. We present cuVSLAM, a state-of-the-art solution for visual simultaneous localization and mapping, which can operate with a variety of visual-inertial sensor suites, including multiple RGB and depth cameras, and inertial measurement units. cuVSLAM supports operation with as few as one RGB camera to as many as 32 cameras, in arbitrary geometric configurations, thus supporting a wide range of robotic setups. cuVSLAM is specifically optimized using CUDA to deploy in real-time applications with minimal computational overhead on edge-computing devices such as the NVIDIA Jetson. We present the design and implementation of cuVSLAM, example use cases, and empirical results on several state-of-the-art benchmarks demonstrating the best-in-class performance of cuVSLAM.

On the Interference Cancellation by Reduced Channel Zero Forcing Class of Precodings in Massive MIMO Systems

In this paper, we study the interference cancellation capabilities of receivers and transmitters in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems using theoretical calculations and numerical simulations in Quadriga. We study so-called Reduced Channel Zero-Forcing (RCZF) class of precoding as well as Minimum MSE Interference Rejection Combiner (MMSE-IRC) and QR Maximum Likelihood Detection (QR-MLD) receivers. Based on very simple but extremely useful algebraic manipulations, their asymptotical equivalence is proven analytically and demonstrated via simulations. Our theoretical and experimental results confirm that MMSE-IRC and QR-MLD receivers in combination with the RCZF precoding provide complete interference suppression asymptotically.

Power Allocation Algorithms for Massive MIMO Systems with Multi-Antenna Users

Modern 5G wireless cellular networks use massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. This concept entails using an antenna array at a base station to concurrently service many mobile devices that have several antennas on their side. In this field, a significant role is played by the precoding (beamforming) problem. During downlink, an important part of precoding is the power allocation problem that distributes power between transmitted symbols. In this paper, we consider the power allocation problem for a class of precodings that asymptotically work as regularized zero-forcing. Under some realistic assumptions, we simplify the spectral efficiency functional and obtain tractable expressions for it. We prove that equal power allocation provides optimum for the simplified functional with total power constraint (TPC). We propose low-complexity Intersection Methods (IM) that improve equal power allocation in the case of per-antenna power constraints (PAPC). On simulations using Quadriga, the proposed IM method in combination with widely-studied Water Filling (WF) shows a significant gain in spectral efficiency while using a similar computing time as the reference Equal Power (EP) solution.

Adaptive Regularized Zero-Forcing Beamforming in Massive MIMO with Multi-Antenna Users

Modern wireless cellular networks use massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. This technology involves operations with an antenna array at a base station that simultaneously serves multiple mobile devices which also use multiple antennas on their side. For this, various precoding and detection techniques are used, allowing each user to receive the signal intended for him from the base station. There is an important class of linear precoding called Regularized Zero-Forcing (RZF). In this work, we propose Adaptive RZF (ARZF) with a special kind of regularization matrix with different coefficients for each layer of multi-antenna users. These regularization coefficients are defined by explicit formulas based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) of user channel matrices. We study the optimization problem, which is solved by the proposed algorithm, with the connection to other possible problem statements. We prove theoretical estimates of the number of conditionality of the inverse covariance matrix of the ARZF method and the standard RZF method, which is important for systems with fixed computational accuracy. Finally, We compare the proposed algorithm with state-of-the-art linear precoding algorithms on simulations with the Quadriga channel model. The proposed approach provides a significant increase in quality with the same computation time as in the reference methods.
