A Renormalizable SYK-type Tensor Field Theory

In this paper we introduce a simple field theoretic version of the Carrozza-Tanasa-Klebanov-Tarnopolsky (CTKT) "uncolored" holographic tensor model. It gives a more familiar interpretation to the previously abstract modes of the SYK or CTKT models in terms of momenta. We choose for the tensor propagator the usual Fermionic propagator of condensed matter, with a spherical Fermi surface, but keep the CTKT interactions. Hence our field theory can also be considered as an ordinary condensed matter model with a non-local and non-rotational invariant interaction. Using a multiscale analysis we prove that this field theory is just renormalizable to all orders of perturbation theory in the ultraviolet regime.

Loop Vertex Expansion for Higher Order Interactions

This note provides an extension of the constructive loop vertex expansion to stable interactions of arbitrarily high order, opening the way to many applications. We treat in detail the example of the $(\bar ϕϕ)^p$ field theory in zero dimension. We find that the important feature to extend the loop vertex expansion is not to use an intermediate field representation, but rather to force integration of exactly one particular field per vertex of the initial action.

Constructive tensor field theory: The $T^{4}_{4}$ model

We continue our constructive study of tensor field theory through the next natural model, namely the rank four tensor theory with quartic melonic interactions and propagator inverse of the Laplacian on $U(1)^4$. This superrenormalizable tensor field theory has a power counting quite similar to ordinary $ϕ^4_3$. We control the model via a multiscale loop vertex expansion which has to be pushed quite beyond the one of the $T^4_3$ model and we establish its Borel summability in the coupling constant. This paper is also a step to prepare the constructive treatment of just renormalizable models, such as the $T^4_5$ model with quartic melonic interactions.

Intermediate Field Representation for Positive Matrix and Tensor Interactions

In this paper we introduce an intermediate field representation for random matrices and random tensors with positive (stable) interactions of degree higher than 4. This representation respects the symmetry axis responsible for positivity. It is non-perturbative and allows to prove that such models are Borel-Le Roy summable of the appropriate order in their coupling constant. However we have not been able yet to associate a convergent Loop Vertex Expansion to this representation, hence our Borel summability result is not of the optimal expected form when the size N of the matrix or of the tensor tends to infinity.

Constructive Tensor Field Theory

We provide an up-to-date review of the recent constructive program for field theories of the vector, matrix and tensor type, focusing not on the models themselves but on the mathematical tools used.

Random Tensors and Quantum Gravity

We provide an informal introduction to tensor field theories and to their associated renormalization group. We focus more on the general motivations coming from quantum gravity than on the technical details. In particular we discuss how asymptotic freedom of such tensor field theories gives a concrete example of a natural "quantum relativity" postulate: physics in the deep ultraviolet regime becomes asymptotically more and more independent of any particular choice of Hilbert basis in the space of states of the universe.

The Tensor Track, IV

This note is a sequel to the previous series "Tensor Track I-III". Assuming some familiarity with the tensor track approach to quantum gravity, we provide a brief introduction to the developments of the last two years and to their corresponding bibliography. They center around understanding the interface between random matrices and random tensors through the intermediate field representation, finding new types of $1/N$ expansions by enhancing sub-leading tensor interactions, exploring the renormalization group flows in the tensor theory space, and developing the constructive aspects of the theory.

Colored triangulations of arbitrary dimensions are stuffed Walsh maps

Regular edge-colored graphs encode colored triangulations of pseudo-manifolds. Here we study families of edge-colored graphs built from a finite but arbitrary set of building blocks, which extend the notion of $p$-angulations to arbitrary dimensions. We prove the existence of a bijection between any such family and some colored combinatorial maps which we call stuffed Walsh maps. Those maps generalize Walsh's representation of hypermaps as bipartite maps, by replacing the vertices which correspond to hyperedges with non-properly-edge-colored maps. This shows the equivalence of tensor models with multi-trace, multi-matrix models by extending the intermediate field method perturbatively to any model. We further use the bijection to study the graphs which maximize the number of faces at fixed number of vertices and provide examples where the corresponding stuffed Walsh maps can be completely characterized.

Why are tensor field theories asymptotically free?

In this pedagogic letter we explain the combinatorics underlying the generic asymptotic freedom of tensor field theories. We focus on simple combinatorial models with a $1/p^2$ propagator and quartic interactions and on the comparison between the intermediate field representations of the vector, matrix and tensor cases. The transition from asymptotic freedom (tensor case) to asymptotic safety (matrix case) is related to the crossing symmetry of the matrix vertex whereas in the vector case, the lack of asymptotic freedom ("Landau ghost"), as in the ordinary scalar case, is simply due to the absence of any wave function renormalization at one loop.

Renormalization and Hopf Algebraic Structure of the 5-Dimensional Quartic Tensor Field Theory

This paper is devoted to the study of renormalization of the quartic melonic tensor model in dimension (=rank) five. We review the perturbative renormalization and the computation of the one loop beta function, confirming the asymptotic freedom of the model. We then define the Connes-Kreimer-like Hopf algebra describing the combinatorics of the renormalization of this model and we analyze in detail, at one- and two-loop levels, the Hochschild cohomology allowing to write the combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equations. Feynman tensor graph Hopf subalgebras are also exhibited.

Constructive Tensor Field Theory: The $T^4_3$ Model

We build constructively the simplest tensor field theory which requires some renormalization, namely the rank three tensor theory with quartic interactions and propagator inverse of the Laplacian on $U(1)^3$. This superrenormalizable tensor field theory has a power counting almost similar to ordinary $ϕ^4_2$. Our construction uses the multiscale loop vertex expansion (MLVE) recently introduced in the context of an analogous vector model. However to prove analyticity and Borel summability of this model requires new estimates on the intermediate field integration, which is now of matrix rather than of scalar type.

Corrected Loop Vertex Expansion for Phi42 Theory

This paper is an extended erratum to J. Math. Phys.53, 042302 (2012) and arXiv:1104.3443, in which the classic construction and Borel summability of the phi^4_2 Euclidean quantum field theory was revisited combining a multi-scale analysis with the constructive method called Loop Vertex Expansion (LVE). Unfortunately we discovered an important error in the method of J. Math. Phys.53, 042302 (2012). We explain the mistake, and provide a new, correct construction of the phi^4_2 theory according to the LVE.

Renormalization of an Abelian Tensor Group Field Theory: Solution at Leading Order

We study a just renormalizable tensorial group field theory of rank six with quartic melonic interactions and Abelian group U(1). We introduce the formalism of the intermediate field, which allows a precise characterization of the leading order Feynman graphs. We define the renormalization of the model, compute its (perturbative) renormalization group flow and write its expansion in terms of effective couplings. We then establish closed equations for the two point and four point functions at leading (melonic) order. Using the effective expansion and its uniform exponential bounds we prove that these equations admit a unique solution at small renormalized coupling.

Enhancing non-melonic triangulations: A tensor model mixing melonic and planar maps

Ordinary tensor models of rank $D\geq 3$ are dominated at large $N$ by tree-like graphs, known as melonic triangulations. We here show that non-melonic contributions can be enhanced consistently, leading to different types of large $N$ limits. We first study the most generic quartic model at $D=4$, with maximally enhanced non-melonic interactions. The existence of the $1/N$ expansion is proved and we further characterize the dominant triangulations. This combinatorial analysis is then used to define a non-quartic, non-melonic class of models for which the large $N$ free energy and the relevant expectations can be calculated explicitly. They are matched with random matrix models which contain multi-trace invariants in their potentials: they possess a branched polymer phase and a 2D quantum gravity phase, and a transition between them whose entropy exponent is positive. Finally, a non-perturbative analysis of the generic quartic model is performed, which proves analyticity in the coupling constants in cardioid domains.

Universality and Borel Summability of Arbitrary Quartic Tensor Models

We extend the study of \emph{melonic} quartic tensor models to models with arbitrary quartic interactions. This extension requires a new version of the loop vertex expansion using several species of intermediate fields and iterated Cauchy-Schwarz inequalities. Borel summability is proven, uniformly as the tensor size $N$ becomes large. Every cumulant is written as a sum of explicitly calculated terms plus a remainder, suppressed in $1/N$. Together with the existence of the large $N$ limit of the second cumulant, this proves that the corresponding sequence of probability measures is uniformly bounded and obeys the tensorial universality theorem.

The Tensor Theory Space

The tensor track is a background-independent discretization of quantum gravity which includes a sum over all topologies. We discuss how to define a functional renormalization group flow and the Wetterich equation in the corresponding theory space. This space is different from the Einsteinian theory space of asymptotic safety. It includes all fixed-rank tensor-invariant interactions, hence generalizes matrix models and the (Moyal) non-commutative field theory space.
