Multiplicity and concentration results for fractional Schrödinger-Poisson equations with magnetic fields and critical growth

We deal with the following fractional Schrödinger-Poisson equation with magnetic field \begin{equation} \varepsilon^{2s}(-Δ)_{A/\varepsilon}^{s}u+V(x)u+\varepsilon^{-2t}(|x|^{2t-3}*|u|^{2})u=f(|u|^{2})u+|u|^{2^{*}_{s}-2}u \quad \mbox{in} \mathbb{R}^{3}, \nonumber \end{equation} where $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter, $s\in (\frac{3}{4}, 1)$, $t\in (0,1)$, $2^{*}_{s}=\frac{6}{3-2s}$ is the fractional critical exponent, $(-Δ)^{s}_{A}$ is the fractional magnetic Laplacian, $V:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a positive continuous potential, $A:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}$ is a smooth magnetic potential and $f:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a subcritical nonlinearity. Under a local condition on the potential $V$, we study multiplicity and concentration of nontrivial solutions as $\varepsilon\rightarrow 0$. In particular, we relate the number of nontrivial solutions with the topology of the set where the potential $V$ attains its minimum.

Multiple concentrating solutions for a fractional Kirchhoff equation with magnetic fields

This paper is concerned with the multiplicity and concentration behavior of nontrivial solutions for the following fractional Kirchhoff equation in presence of a magnetic field: \begin{equation*} \left(a\varepsilon^{2s}+b\varepsilon^{4s-3} [u]_{A/\varepsilon}^{2}\right)(-Δ)_{A/\varepsilon}^{s}u+V(x)u=f(|u|^{2})u \quad \mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{3}, \end{equation*} where $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter, $a, b>0$ are constants, $s\in (\frac{3}{4}, 1)$, $(-Δ)^{s}_{A}$ is the fractional magnetic Laplacian, $A:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}$ is a smooth magnetic potential, $V:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a positive continuous potential having a local minimum and $f:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a $C^{1}$ subcritical nonlinearity. Applying penalization techniques and Ljusternik-Schnirelman theory, we relate the number of nontrivial solutions with the topology of the set where the potential $V$ attains its minimum.

An Ambrosetti-Prodi type result for fractional spectral problems

We consider the following class of fractional parametric problems \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} (-Δ_{Dir})^{s} u= f(x, u)+tφ_{1}+h &\mbox{ in } Ω\\ u=0 &\mbox{ on } \partial Ω, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}$ is a smooth bounded domain, $s\in (0, 1)$, $N> 2s$, $(-Δ_{Dir})^{s}$ is the fractional Dirichlet Laplacian, $f: \barΩ \times \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a locally Lipschitz nonlinearity having linear or superlinear growth and satisfying Ambrosetti-Prodi type assumptions, $t\in \mathbb{R}$, $φ_{1}$ is the first eigenfunction of the Laplacian with homogenous boundary conditions, and $h:Ω\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a bounded function. Using variational methods, we prove that there exists a $t_{0}\in \mathbb{R}$ such that the above problem admits at least two distinct solutions for any $t\leq t_{0}$. We also discuss the existence of solutions for a fractional periodic Ambrosetti-Prodi type problem.

Nonlinear equations involving the square root of the Laplacian

In this paper we discuss the existence and non-existence of weak solutions to parametric fractional equations involving the square root of the Laplacian $A_{1/2}$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n\geq 2$) and with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. Namely, our simple model is the following equation \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} A_{1/2}u=λf(u) & \mbox{ in } Ω\\ u=0 & \mbox{ on } \partialΩ. \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} The existence of at least two non-trivial $L^{\infty}$-bounded weak solutions is established for large value of the parameter $λ$ requiring that the nonlinear term $f$ is continuous, superlinear at zero and sublinear at infinity. Our approach is based on variational arguments and a suitable variant of the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension method.

Existence and concentration of nontrivial solutions for a fractional magnetic Schrödinger-Poisson type equation

We consider the following fractional Schrödinger-Poisson type equation with magnetic fields \begin{equation*} \varepsilon^{2s}(-Δ)_{A/\varepsilon}^{s}u+V(x)u+\varepsilon^{-2t}(|x|^{2t-3}*|u|^{2})u=f(|u|^{2})u \quad \mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{3}, \end{equation*} where $\varepsilon>0$ is a parameter, $s\in (\frac{3}{4}, 1)$, $t\in (0,1)$, $(-Δ)^{s}_{A}$ is the fractional magnetic Laplacian, $A:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}$ is a smooth magnetic potential, $V:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a positive continuous electric potential and $f:\mathbb{R}^{3}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a continuous function with subcritical growth. By using suitable variational methods, we show the existence of families of nontrivial solutions concentrating around local minima of the potential $V(x)$ as $\varepsilon\rightarrow 0$.

Concentration phenomena for a fractional Choquard equation with magnetic field

We consider the following nonlinear fractional Choquard equation $$ \varepsilon^{2s}(-Δ)^{s}_{A/\varepsilon} u + V(x)u = \varepsilon^{μ-N}\left(\frac{1}{|x|^μ}*F(|u|^{2})\right)f(|u|^{2})u \mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{N}, $$ where $\varepsilon>0$ is a parameter, $s\in (0, 1)$, $0<μ<2s$, $N\geq 3$, $(-Δ)^{s}_{A}$ is the fractional magnetic Laplacian, $A:\mathbb{R}^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{N}$ is a smooth magnetic potential, $V:\mathbb{R}^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a positive potential with a local minimum and $f$ is a continuous nonlinearity with subcritical growth. By using variational methods we prove the existence and concentration of nontrivial solutions for $\varepsilon>0$ small enough.

Sign-changing solutions for a class of zero mass nonlocal Schrödinger equations

We consider the following class of fractional Schrödinger equations $$ (-Δ)^α u + V(x)u = K(x) f(u) \mbox{in} \mathbb{R}^{N} $$ where $α\in (0, 1)$, $N>2α$, $(-Δ)^α$ is the fractional Laplacian, $V$ and $K$ are positive continuous functions which vanish at infinity, and $f$ is a continuous function. By using a minimization argument and a quantitative deformation lemma, we obtain the existence of a sign-changing solution. Furthermore, when $f$ is odd, we prove that the above problem admits infinitely many nontrivial solutions. Our result extends to the fractional framework some well-known theorems proved for elliptic equations in the classical setting. With respect to these cases studied in the literature, the nonlocal one considered here presents some additional difficulties, such as the lack of decompositions involving positive and negative parts, and the non-differentiability of the Nehari Manifold, so that a careful analysis of the fractional spaces involved is necessary.

Multiple solutions for superlinear fractional problems via theorems of mixed type

In this paper we investigate the existence of multiple solutions for the following two fractional problems \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ_Ω)^{s} u-λu= f(x, u) &\mbox{in} Ω\\ u=0 &\mbox{in} \partial Ω\end{array} \right. \end{equation*} and \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ_{\mathbb{R}^{N}})^{s} u-λu= f(x, u) &\mbox{in} Ω\\ u=0 &\mbox{in} \mathbb{R}^{N}\setminus Ω, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $s\in (0,1)$, $N>2s$, $Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, and $f:\barΩ\times \mathbb{R}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a superlinear continuous function which does not satisfy the well-known Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Here $(-Δ_Ω)^{s}$ is the spectral Laplacian and $(-Δ_{\mathbb{R}^{N}})^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$. By applying variational theorems of mixed type due to Marino and Saccon and Linking Theorem, we prove the existence of multiple solutions for the above problems.

Periodic solutions for critical fractional problems

We deal with the existence of $2π$-periodic solutions to the following non-local critical problem \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} [(-Δ_{x}+m^{2})^{s}-m^{2s}]u=W(x)|u|^{2^{*}_{s}-2}u+ f(x, u) &\mbox{in} (-π,π)^{N} \\ u(x+2πe_{i})=u(x) &\mbox{for all} x \in \mathbb{R}^{N}, \quad i=1, \dots, N, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $s\in (0,1)$, $N \geq 4s$, $m\geq 0$, $2^{*}_{s}=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$ is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent, $W(x)$ is a positive continuous function, and $f(x, u)$ is a superlinear $2π$-periodic (in $x$) continuous function with subcritical growth. When $m>0$, the existence of a nonconstant periodic solution is obtained by applying the Linking Theorem, after transforming the above non-local problem into a degenerate elliptic problem in the half-cylinder $(-π,π)^{N}\times (0, \infty)$, with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition, through a suitable variant of the extension method in periodic setting. We also consider the case $m=0$ by using a careful procedure of limit. As far as we know, all these results are new.

Concentration phenomena for critical fractional Schrödinger systems

In this paper we study the existence, multiplicity and concentration behavior of solutions for the following critical fractional Schrödinger system \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} \varepsilon^{2s} (-Δ)^{s}u+V(x) u=Q_{u}(u, v)+\frac{1}{2^{*}_{s}}K_{u}(u, v) &\mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{N}\varepsilon^{2s} (-Δ)^{s}u+W(x) v=Q_{v}(u, v)+\frac{1}{2^{*}_{s}}K_{v}(u, v) &\mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{N} u, v>0 &\mbox{ in } \R^{N}, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $\varepsilon>0$ is a parameter, $s\in (0, 1)$, $N>2s$, $(-Δ)^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian operator, $V:\mathbb{R}^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ and $W:\mathbb{R}^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ are positive Hölder continuous potentials, $Q$ and $K$ are homogeneous $C^{2}$-functions having subcritical and critical growth respectively. We relate the number of solutions with the topology of the set where the potentials $V$ and $W$ attain their minimum values. The proofs rely on the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory and variational methods.

Ground state solutions for a fractional Schrödinger equation with critical growth

In this paper we investigate the existence of nontrivial ground state solutions for the following fractional scalar field equation \begin{align*} (-Δ)^{s} u+V(x)u= f(u) \mbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{align*} where $s\in (0,1)$, $N> 2s$, $(-Δ)^{s}$ is the fractional Laplacian, $V: \mathbb{R}^{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is a bounded potential satisfying suitable assumptions, and $f\in C^{1, β}(\mathbb{R}, \mathbb{R})$ has critical growth. We first analyze the case $V$ constant, and then we develop a Jeanjean-Tanaka argument \cite{JT} to deal with the non autonomous case. As far as we know, all results presented here are new.
