Weakly Newton-nondegenerate binomial ideals

An ideal $I$ of a polynomial ring $R=k[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ is called weakly Newton-nondegenerate, or weakly NND, if its integral closure $\overline{I}$ is a monomial ideal. We study weak Newton nondegeneracy for the family of quadratic binomial ideals \[ I=(x_1^2+ε_1x_{a_1}x_{b_1},\ \dots,\ x_n^2+ε_nx_{a_n}x_{b_n}),\qquad ε_i\in\{\pm1\},\ a_i\neq b_i, \] over an algebraically closed field. We prove that $I$ is weakly NND if and only if $\overline I=\mathfrak{m}^2$, if and only if the given generators form a regular sequence, and if and only if an explicit combinatorial condition on the pair (support pattern, sign pattern) holds: no nonempty subset $S\subseteq\{1,\dots,n\}$ is simultaneously closed for the support data and sign-trivial for the associated lattice of relations. The last equivalence rests on a solvability criterion for systems of monomial equations over a divisible abelian group, in the spirit of Eisenbud and Sturmfels. As an application, we classify all such ideals for $n=3$.

Transcendental Hilbert-Kunz Multiplicities

We prove that ordinary Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity can be transcendental. More precisely, over every uncountable algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>2$, there exists a normal standard graded domain $S$ and an $S_+$-primary homogeneous ideal $I\subseteq S$ such that $e_{\rm HK}(IS_{S_+})$ is transcendental.

Transcendental Epsilon Multiplicity via Divisor Volumes

We prove that epsilon multiplicity can take transcendental values. The main structural result is a one-ideal formula for section rings: under natural positivity hypotheses, the epsilon multiplicity of an ideal generated in one degree is equal to an integral of a divisor-volume function. This formula transports an asymptotic colength invariant of ideals to the geometry and arithmetic of divisor volumes. To produce a transcendental value, we combine the formula with a shifted projective-bundle construction inspired by Bornträger and Nickel. The shift places the construction in the positivity range required by the one-ideal formula while preserving the underlying disk geometry of the volume computation. Reversing the order of integration reduces the resulting integral to three integrals of rational functions. Their arctangent terms cancel exactly, whereas the remaining real logarithms form an explicit algebraic linear combination whose value is positive. Baker's theorem then implies transcendence. Consequently, there exists a homogeneous ideal in a normal standard graded domain whose epsilon multiplicity is transcendental.

Multiplicity $=$ Volume formula and Newton non-degenerate ideals in regular local rings

We develop the notions of Newton non-degenerate (NND) ideals and Newton polyhedra for regular local rings. These concepts were first defined in the context of complex analysis. We show that the characterization of NND ideals via their integral closures known in the analytical setting extends to regular local rings. We use the limiting body $\mathcal{C}(\mathcal{I})$ associated to a graded family $\mathcal{I}$ of ideals to provide a new understanding of the celebrated "Multiplicity $=$ Volume" formula. Particularly, we prove that, for a Noetherian graded family $\mathcal{I}$ of $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals in a regular local ring $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ of dimension $d$, the equality $$e(\mathcal{I}) = d!\text{co-vol}_d(\mathcal{C}(\mathcal{I}))$$ holds if and only if $\mathcal{I}$ contains certain subfamily of NND ideals.

Limits of length functions of multi $p$-families of ideals

We show the asymptotic relationship between the limit of the normalized length function of a multi-$p-$family of ideals and that of its shifted family under linear growth conditions in a local domain of characteristic $p$. Examples of multi-$p-$families of ideals including products of Frobenius powers of different ideals. We apply our results to obtain a generalized version of a formula due to Wantanabe-Yoshida for certain $p-$families using results from Verma, and to provide an instance of the existence of a mixed multiplicity version of multi-$p$-families of ideals.
