Radial Oscillations of Hybrid Stars

We study the effect of quark and nuclear matter mixed phase on the radial oscillation modes of neutron stars. For this study we have considered recent models from two classes of equations of state namely the relativistic mean field theoretical models and models based on realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions incorporating relativistic corrections and three body nuclear interactions.

Radial Oscillations of Neutron Stars in Strong Magnetic Fields

The eigen frequencies of radial pulsations of neutron stars are calculated in a strong magnetic field. At low densities we use the magnetic BPS equation of state(EOS) similar to that obtained by Lai and Shapiro while at high densities the EOS obtained from the relativistic nuclear mean field theory is taken and extended to include strong magnetic field. It is found that magnetised neutron stars support higher maximum mass where as the effect of magnetic field on radial stability for observed neutron star masses is minimal.

Nuclear Matter in Intense Magnetic Field and Weak Processes

We study the effect of magnetic field on the dominant neutrino emission processes in neutron stars. The processes are first calculated for the case when the magnetic field does not exceed the critical value to confine electrons to the lowest Landau state. We then consider the more important case of intense magnetic field to evaluate the direct URCA and the neutronisation processes. In order to estimate the effect we derive the composition of cold nuclear matter at high densities and in beta equilibrium, a situation appropriate for neutron stars. The hadronic interactions are incorporated through the exchange of scalar and vector mesons in the frame work of relativistic mean field theory. In addition the effects of anomalous magnetic moments of nucleons are also considered.
