Positive stabilization of a pure diffusion system

This paper provides a complete analytical study of the positive stabilization, positive state estimation, and observer-based positive stabilization problems for a generic boundary control diffusion system with point observation. In particular, optimal design problems are solved analytically, and an original strategy for observer-based feedback stabilization is proposed. The three problems are also investigated for an arbitrary-order spatial discretization of the nominal PDE system enabling numerical implementation together with rigorous comparisons with the nominal solutions. In both the continuous and discretized settings, explicit and readily implementable solutions are derived.

On rankings in multiplayer games with an application to the game of Whist

We propose a novel extension of the Bradley-Terry model to multiplayer games and adapt a recent algorithm by Newman [1] to our model. We demonstrate the use of our proposed method on synthetic datasets and on a real dataset of games of cards.

A linear dissipativity approach to incremental input-to-state stability for a class of positive Lur'e systems

Incremental stability properties are considered for certain systems of forced, nonlinear differential equations with a particular positivity structure. An incremental stability estimate is derived for pairs of input/state/output trajectories of the Lur'e systems under consideration, from which a number of consequences are obtained, including the incremental exponential input-to-state stability property and certain input-output stability concepts with linear gain. Incremental stability estimates provide a basis for an investigation into the response to convergent and (almost) periodic forcing terms, and is treated presently. Our results show that an incremental version of the real Aizerman conjecture is true for positive Lur'e systems when an incremental gain condition is imposed on the nonlinear term, as we describe. Our argumentation is underpinned by linear dissipativity theory -- a property of positive linear control systems.
