The Infrared Behavior of One-Loop Gluon Amplitudes at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order

For the case of $n$-jet production at next-to-next-to-leading order in the QCD coupling, in the infrared divergent corners of phase space where particles are collinear or soft, one must evaluate $(n+1)$-parton final-state one-loop amplitudes through $\Ord(\eps^2)$, where $\eps$ is the dimensional regularization parameter. For the case of gluons, we present to all orders in $\eps$ the required universal functions which describe the behavior of one-loop amplitudes in the soft and collinear regions of phase space. An explicit example is discussed for three-parton production in multi-Regge kinematics that has applications to the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the BFKL equation.

Virtual Next-to-Leading Corrections to the Impact Factors in the High-Energy Limit

We compute the virtual next-to-leading corrections to the impact factors or off-shell coefficient functions in the high-energy limit. When combined with the known real corrections, these results will provide the complete NLO corrections to the impact factors, which are necessary to use the BFKL resummation at NLL for jet production at both lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron colliders.

BFKL in forward jet production

In this talk I consider dijet production at large rapidity intervals in hadron collisions and forward-jet production in DIS as candidate signatures of a BFKL evolution. The state of the art on the measurements, and on the BFKL-motivated phenomenological analyses with emphasis on the different approximations involved, is reviewed.

BFKL: a minireview

We summarize the state of the art of resummation techniques in the small-$x$ limit of perturbative QCD.

Theory of Double Hard Diffraction

In this review talk I consider the physics of rapidity gaps between two jets at hadron colliders, as a preliminary investigation toward understanding the production of a Higgs boson via weak boson fusion at the LHC.

Next-to-Leading Corrections to the BFKL Equation

Using the helicity formalism in the high-energy limit, we compute the amplitudes which generate the real next-to-leading-logarithmic corrections to the BFKL equation. Accordingly, we provide a list of all the off-shell vertices necessary to build such amplitudes.

Quark-antiquark contribution to the multigluon amplitudes in the helicity formalism

Using the helicity formalism, we compute the contribution of a quark-antiquark pair to the tree-level multigluon amplitudes in the high-energy limit. The $\bar{q}\, q$-pair production is absent in the leading-log formalism, but contributes to the next-to-leading corrections to it, and is therefore relevant for the computation of parton-parton scattering in the high-energy limit and of the gluon anomalous dimension at small $x_{bj}$, at next-to-leading accuracy.

Forward-jet production in DIS

In this talk I report on some work done in collaboration with Jochen Bartels and Mark Wüsthoff on forward-jet inclusive production in DIS in the small-$x_{bj}$ limit. We work in the HERA lab frame and examine the jet production rate and the lepton-jet azimuthal-angle correlation at small values of $x_{bj}$.

Theory of Hard Diffraction and Rapidity Gaps

In this talk we review the models describing the hard diffractive production of jets or more generally high-mass states in presence of rapidity gaps in hadron-hadron and lepton-hadron collisions. By rapidity gaps we mean regions on the lego plot in (pseudo)-rapidity and azimuthal angle where no hadrons are produced, between the jet(s) and an elastically scattered hadron (single hard diffraction) or between two jets (double hard diffraction).

MULTIGLUON AMPLITUDES IN THE HIGH-ENERGY LIMIT

We give a unified description of tree-level multigluon amplitudes in the high-energy limit. We represent the Parke-Taylor amplitudes and the Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov amplitudes in terms of color configurations that are ordered in rapidity on a two-sided plot. We show that for the helicity configurations they have in common the Parke-Taylor amplitudes and the Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov amplitudes coincide.

BFKL versus O(α_s^3) Corrections to Large-rapidity Dijet Production

We examine dijet production at large rapidity intervals at Tevatron energies by comparing an exact ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ calculation with the BFKL approximation, which resums the leading powers of the rapidity interval $y$ to all orders in $α_s$. We analyze the dependence of the exact ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ calculation on the jet cone-size as a function of $y$, and use this cross section to define an ``effective rapidity'' $\hat y$ which reduces the error that the large-$y$ approximation induces on the kinematics. Using $\hat y$ in the BFKL resummation, we reexamine jet production at large transverse momenta and the transverse momentum decorrelation of the tagging jets. We find less dramatic, but still significant, effects than found previously using the large-$y$ approximation.
