Isometric solutions to the heterotic $\mathrm{G}_2$-system

In this note, we construct new solutions to the heterotic $\mathrm{G}_2$-system with non-abelian gauge group, both compact and non-compact, on certain $2$-step nilmanifolds and $3$-Sasakian manifolds. Our approach is based on an ansatz that allows us to vary both the $\mathrm{G}_2$-structure and the gauge data while keeping the underlying metric and orientation fixed. This leads, in particular, to distinct isometric solutions on the same manifold but with different gauge groups, and in some cases the resulting connection coincides with the characteristic connection of the $\mathrm{G}_2$-structure. We also investigate an $S^1$-invariant construction that yields further isometric solutions and with varying cosmological constant. Our results recover and extend several known examples solving the heterotic $\mathrm{G}_2$-system within a unified framework.

The characteristic group of Lie LCP manifolds

The (reduced) characteristic group of a locally conformally product manifold is obtained by restricting the action of its fundamental group to the non-flat factor of the universal cover, and taking the connected component of the identity in the closure of this restriction. It was shown by Kourganoff that this group is abelian, but it is currently unknown whether it is simply connected, or might have compact (toric) factors. This question is crucial for a better understanding of LCP structure, as shown recently by B. Flamencourt. In this paper we consider Lie LCP structures (which are defined on quotients of simply connected Lie groups by lattices) and show that the reduced characteristic group of any Lie LCP manifold $Γ\backslash G$ is contained in the radical of $G$, so in particular is simply connected.

Symmetric Killing tensors on almost abelian Lie groups

In this work we provide a complete characterization of left-invariant symmetric Killing tensors on almost abelian Lie groups endowed with a left-invariant Riemannian metric. We show in particular that all such tensors are decomposable, in the sense that they can be expressed as a polynomial in the Killing vector fields and the Riemannian metric.

Left-invariant ${\rm G}_2^*$-structures of type III

We investigate left-invariant ${\rm G}_2^*$-structures on 7-dimensional Lie groups, focusing on those whose holonomy algebras are indecomposable and of type III, the latter meaning that the socle of the holonomy representation is maximal. Building on the classification of indecomposable holonomy algebras contained in $\mathfrak g_2^*$, we determine which ones arise as infinitesimal holonomy algebras of type III for left-invariant ${\rm G}_2^*$-structures. Our main result shows that only abelian subalgebras occur, and these are necessarily of dimension two or three. Moreover, we provide explicit Lie groups with left-invariant ${\rm G}_2^*$-structures realizing these abelian holonomies.

Formalizing a classification theorem for low-dimensional solvable Lie algebras in Lean

We present a formalization, in the theorem prover Lean, of the classification of solvable Lie algebras of dimension at most three over arbitrary fields. Lie algebras are algebraic objects which encode infinitesimal symmetries, and as such ubiquitous in geometry and physics. Our work involves explicit calculations on the level of the underlying vector spaces and provides a use case for the linear algebra and Lie theory routines in Lean's mathematical library mathlib. Along the way we formalize results about Lie algebras, define the semidirect product within this setting and add API for bases of vector spaces. In a wider context, this project aims to provide a complete mechanization of a classification theorem, covering both the statement and its full formal proof, and contribute to the development and broader adoption of such results in formalized mathematics.

The structure of locally conformally product Lie algebras

A locally conformally product (LCP) structure on a compact conformal manifold is a closed non-exact Weyl connection (i.e.~a linear connection which is locally but not globally the Levi-Civita connection of Riemannian metrics in the conformal class), with reducible holonomy. A left-invariant LCP structure on a compact quotient $Γ\backslash G$ of a simply connected Riemannian Lie group $(G,g)$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ can be characterized in terms of a closed 1-form $θ\in\mathfrak{g}^*$ and a non-zero subspace $\mathfrak{u}\subset \mathfrak{g}$ satisfying some algebraic conditions. We show that these conditions are equivalent to the fact that $\mathfrak{g}$ is isomorphic to a semidirect product of a non-unimodular Lie algebra acting on an abelian one by a conformal representation. This extends to the general case previous results holding for solvmanifolds. In addition, we construct explicit examples of compact LCP manifolds which are not solvmanifolds.

Locally conformally product structures on solvmanifolds

We study left invariant locally conformally product structures on simply connected Lie groups and give their complete description in the solvable unimodular case. Based on previous classification results, we then obtain the complete list of solvable unimodular Lie algebras up to dimension 5 which carry LCP structures, and study the existence of lattices in the corresponding simply connected Lie groups.

Ad-invariant metrics on nonnice nilpotent Lie algebras

We proved in previous work that all real nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension up to $10$ carrying an ad-invariant metric are nice. In this paper we show by constructing explicit examples that nonnice irreducible nilpotent Lie algebras admitting an ad-invariant metric exist for every dimension greater than $10$ and every nilpotency step greater than $2$. In the way of doing so, we introduce a method to construct Lie algebras with ad-invariant metrics called the single extension, as a parallel to the well-known double extension procedure.

G$_2$-instantons on $2$-step nilpotent Lie groups

We study the G$_2$-instanton condition for a family of metric connections arisen from the characteristic connection, on $7$-dimensional $2$-step nilpotent Lie groups with left-invariant coclosed G$_2$-structures. According to the dimension of the commutator subgroup, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the connection to be an instanton, in terms of the torsion of the G$_2$-structure, the torsion of the connection and the Lie group structure. Moreover, we show that in our setup, G$_2$-instantons define a naturally reductive structure on the simply connected $2$-step nilpotent Lie group with left-invariant Riemannian metric. Taking quotient by lattices, one obtains G$_2$-instantons on compact nilmanifolds.

Weyl-Einstein structures on conformal solvmanifolds

A conformal Lie group is a conformal manifold $(M,c)$ such that $M$ has a Lie group structure and $c$ is the conformal structure defined by a left-invariant metric $g$ on $M$. We study Weyl-Einstein structures on conformal solvable Lie groups and on their compact quotients. In the compact case, we show that every conformal solvmanifold carrying a Weyl-Einstein structure is Einstein. We also show that there are no left-invariant Weyl-Einstein structures on non-abelian nilpotent conformal Lie groups, and classify them on conformal solvable Lie groups in the almost abelian case. Furthermore, we determine the precise list (up to automorphisms) of left-invariant metrics on simply connected solvable Lie groups of dimension 3 carrying left-invariant Weyl-Einstein structures.

Uniqueness of ad-invariant metrics

We consider Lie algebras admitting an ad-invariant metric, and we study the problem of uniqueness of the ad-invariant metric up to automorphisms. This is a common feature in low dimensions, as one can observe in the known classification of nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension $\leq 7$ admitting an ad-invariant metric. We prove that uniqueness of the metric on a complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is equivalent to uniqueness of ad-invariant metrics on the cotangent Lie algebra $T^*\mathfrak{g}$; a slightly more complicated equivalence holds over the reals. This motivates us to study the broader class of Lie algebras such that the ad-invariant metric on $T^*\mathfrak{g}$ is unique. We prove that uniqueness of the metric forces the Lie algebra to be solvable, but the converse does not hold, as we show by constructing solvable Lie algebras with a one-parameter family of inequivalent ad-invariant metrics. We prove sufficient conditions for uniqueness expressed in terms of both the Nikolayevsky derivation and a metric counterpart introduced in this paper. Moreover, we prove that uniqueness always holds for irreducible Lie algebras which are either solvable of dimension $\leq 6$ or real nilpotent of dimension $\leq 10$.

Conformal Killing forms on $2$-step nilpotent Riemannian Lie groups

We study left-invariant conformal Killing $2$- or $3$-forms on simply connected $2$-step nilpotent Riemannian Lie groups. We show that if the center of the group is of dimension greater than or equal to 4, then every such form is automatically coclosed (i.e. it is a Killing form). In addition, we prove that the only Riemannian 2-step nilpotent Lie groups with center of dimension at most 3 and admitting left-invariant non-coclosed conformal Killing $2$- and $3$-forms are: the Heisenberg Lie groups and their trivial 1-dimensional extensions, endowed with any left-invariant metric, and the simply connected Lie group corresponding to the free 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra on 3 generators, with a particular 1-parameter family of metrics. The explicit description of the space of conformal Killing $2$- and $3$-forms is provided in each case.

Conformal Killing symmetric tensors on Lie groups

We introduce the notion of metric Lie algebras of Killing type, which are characterized by the fact that all conformal Killing symmetric tensors are sums of Killing tensors and multiples of the metric tensor. We show that if a Lie algebra is either 2-step nilpotent, or 2- or 3-dimensional, or 4-dimensional non-solvable, or 4-dimensional solvable with 1-dimensional derived ideal, or has an abelian factor, then it is of Killing type with respect to any positive definite metric.

Purely coclosed G$_{\mathbf2}$-structures on 2-step nilpotent Lie groups

We consider left-invariant (purely) coclosed G$_2$-structures on 7-dimensional 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. According to the dimension of the commutator subgroup, we obtain various criteria characterizing the Riemannian metrics induced by left-invariant purely coclosed G$_2$-structures. Then, we use them to determine the isomorphism classes of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras admitting such type of structures. As an intermediate step, we show that every metric on a 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra admitting coclosed G$_2$-structures is induced by one of them. Finally, we use our results to give the explicit description of the metrics induced by purely coclosed G$_2$-structures on 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras with derived algebra of dimension at most two, up to automorphism.

Diagram involutions and homogeneous Ricci-flat metrics

We introduce a combinatorial method to construct indefinite Ricci-flat metrics on nice nilpotent Lie groups. We prove that every nilpotent Lie group of dimension $\leq6$, every nice nilpotent Lie group of dimension $\leq7$ and every two-step nilpotent Lie group attached to a graph admits such a metric. We construct infinite families of Ricci-flat nilmanifolds associated to parabolic nilradicals in the simple Lie groups ${\rm SL}(n)$, ${\rm SO}(p,q)$, ${\rm Sp}(n,\mathbb R)$. Most of these metrics are shown not to be flat.

Killing forms on $2$-step nilmanifolds

We study left-invariant Killing $k$-forms on simply connected $2$-step nilpotent Lie groups endowed with a left-invariant Riemannian metric. For $k=2,3$, we show that every left-invariant Killing $k$-form is a sum of Killing forms on the factors of the de Rham decomposition. Moreover, on each irreducible factor, non-zero Killing $2$-forms define (after some modification) a bi-invariant orthogonal complex structure and non-zero Killing $3$-forms arise only if the Riemannian Lie group is naturally reductive when viewed as a homogeneous space under the action of its isometry group. In both cases, $k=2$ or $k=3$, we show that the space of Killing $k$-forms of an irreducible Riemannian 2-step nilpotent Lie group is at most one-dimensional.
