Doped Mott-Hubbard materials with a low quasiparticle transparency

Based on the Wilson's criterion metal-insulator, extended to materials with strong electronic correlations, we have identified a specific class of the materials, which is not associated with their usual classification into Mott-Hubbard and charge transfer dielectrics. The local symmetry of these materials leads to a disappearance of quasiparticle states (so-called first removal or fist extra states) in the Hubbard's gap. It's especially unusual for the doped materials, where quasiparticles - charge carriers can disappear or appear under external factors, but the Mott transition has not yet been achieved. In the work we introduced the so-called a "quasiparticle transparency", and also provided specific experiments to identify the materials with the low quasiparticle transparency. Some examples of these materials with a spin crossover under high pressure and showing Jahn-Teller nature have been observed.

Lattice source for charge and spin inhomogeneity in 2D perovskite cuprates

In the work we highlight the structural features of 2D perovskite cuprates (tilted CuO$_6$ octahedra with different orientation with respect to spacer rocksalt layers), where sources of charge and spin inhomogeneity can be hidden. We used the impurity Anderson model with the Jahn-Teller(JT) local cells to show the charge inhomogeneity arises at any low doping concentration $x$, but disappears when the doping level exceeds threshold concentration $x_c$, and the lower the magnitudes $x_c$, the more JT region square. It is expected that spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the dynamic JT state of the stripe CuO$_2$ layer as a whole can lead to the appearance of the goldstone phonon mode. As consequence, the giant thermal Hall effect could be observed in the 2D perovskite cuprates with CuO$_6$ octahedra, rather than with CuO$_4$ squares, e.g. in Tl-based $n$ layer cuprates or cuprates based on the infinite-layer CaCuO$_2$ structure.

Cation spin and superexchange interaction in oxide materials below and above spin crossover under high pressure

We derived simple rules for the sign of superexchange interaction based on the multielectron calculations of the superexchange interaction in the transition metal oxides that are valid both below and above spin crossover under high pressure. The superexchange interaction between two cations in d$^n$ configurations is given by a sum of individual contributions related to the electron-hole virtual excitations to the different states of the d$^{n + 1}$ and d$^{n - 1}$ configurations. Using these rules, we have analyzed the sign of the superexchange interaction of a number of oxides with magnetic cations in electron configurations from d$^2$ till d$^8$: the iron, cobalt, chromium, nickel, copper and manganese oxides with increasing pressure. The most interesting result concerns the magnetic state of cobalt and nickel oxides CoO, Ni$_2$O$_3$ and also La$_2$CoO$_4$, LaNiO$_3$ isostructural to well-known high-T$_C$ and colossal magnetoresistance materials. These oxides have a spin $\frac{1}{2}$ at the high pressure. Change of the interaction from antiferromagnetic below spin crossover to ferromagnetic above spin crossover is predicted for oxide materials with cations in d$^5$(FeBO$_3$) and d$^7$(CoO) configurations, while for materials with the other d$^n$ configurations spin crossover under high pressure does not change the sign of the superexchange interaction.

Is there any hidden symmetry in the stripe structure of perovskite high temperature superconductors?

Local and fast structural probes using synchrotron radiation have shown nanoscale striped puddles and nanoscale phase separation in doped perovskites. It is known that the striped phases in doped perovskites are due to competing interactions involving charge, spin and lattice degrees of freedom, but while many theoretical models for spin and charge stripes have been proposed we are missing theoretical models describing the complex lattice striped modulations in doped perovskites. In this work we show that two different stripes can be represented as a superposition of a pair of stripes, U(theta_n) and D(theta_n), characterized by perovskite tilts where one of the pair is rotated in relation to the other partner by an angle Delta(theta _n)=pi/2. The spatial distribution of the U and D stripes is reduced to all possible maps in the well-known mathematical four-color theorem. Both the periodic striped puddles and random structures can be represented by using $planar$ graphs with a chromatic number. To observe the colors in mapping experiments, it is necessary to recover variously oriented tilting effects from the replica. It is established that there is an interplay between the annihilation/creation of new stripes and ordering/disordering tilts in relation to the theta _n angle in the CuO2 plane, where the characteristic shape of the stripes coincides with the tilting-ordered regions. By their origin, the boundaries between the stripes should be atomically sharp.

In-gap excitation effect on a superexchange in La2CuO4 by creating nonequilibrium photoexcited centers

We propose a multielectron approach to calculate superexchange interaction in magnetic Mott- Hubbard insulator La2CuO4(further La214) that allows to obtain the effect of optical pumping on the superexchange interaction. We use the cell perturbation theory with exact diagonalization of the multiband pd Hamiltonian inside each CuO6 unit cell and treating the intercell hopping as perturbation. To incorporate effect of optical pumping we include in this work the excited singlehole local states as well as all two-hole singlets and triplets. By projecting out the interband intercell electron hopping we have obtained the effective Heisenberg-like Hamiltonian with the local spin at site Ri being a superposition of the ground and excited single-hole states. We found that antiferromagnetic contribution to the exchange energy in La214 will increase in accordance to ~ 4*10_{-3} eV /(%) at the resonance light occupation of the excited single hole in-gap state.

Pressure effect on the energy structure and superexchange interaction of the undoped orthorhombic La2CuO4: beyond the low-energy approximation

Using LDA+GTB multi-band approach, we studied the compression dependence of the electronic structure and in-plane superexchange interaction J(P) in the antiferromagnetic La214 at the 0% and 3% - hydrostatic and unaxial (along c axial) compression. We obtained the superexchange interaction J(P=0)~0.15eV is enhanced by ~20% under the 3% - hydrostatic compression and vice versa the J(P) is decreased slightly by ~5,7% under the 3% - uniaxial compression. In both cases the J(P) correlates with the in-plane hopping parameters and dd-excitation energy δ_s=e(^3B_{1})-e(A_{1})$ involving the the two-hole states: Zhang-Rice singlet and ^3{B_{1}} triplet states. The spectral density of the first removal states is a combined singlet-triplet character and a sign of changes in the one with the pressure clearly reproduces the \vec{k}-distribution of quasiparticle states with a different a_1- and b_1-symmetry over the Brillouin zone as a whole.
