First Constraint on P-odd/T-odd Cross Section in Polarized Neutron Transmission through Transversely Polarized $^{139}$La

We report the first constraint on time-reversal invariance violating (TRIV) effects in polarized neutron transmission through a transversely polarized $^{139}$La target. We formulate the transmission asymmetry within the density matrix formalism, explicitly incorporating the forward scattering amplitude of $^{139}$La including tensor polarization terms up to third-rank. The formalism is applied to existing transmission data originally obtained to measure the spin-dependent cross section near the $0.75$~eV $p$-wave resonance. Since these data were not optimized for P-odd/T-odd observables, the attainable sensitivity is intrinsically limited; nevertheless, they provide a useful test of the formalism on real experimental data. No statistically significant TRIV signal is observed. By analyzing the global $χ^2$ structure in the parameter space, we obtain an upper limit of $|W_T|<15~\mathrm{eV}$ at the 90\% confidence level. This corresponds to an upper limit on the resonance-averaged TRIV cross section of $|Δσ_{\not{T}\not{P}}|<8.3\times10^2~\mathrm{b}$. These results validate the present theoretical framework and provide guidance for future dedicated TRIV searches in polarized neutron transmission experiments.

Angular correlations in neutron-gamma reactions

Angular correlations for low-energy neutron induced $γ$ reactions are calculated using nuclear reaction formalism for multi level neutron capture with arbitrary multiplicities of $γ$ transitions. We confirm previous calculations [V. V. Flambaum and O. P. Sushkov, Nucl. Phys.A 435 , 352 (1985)] for dipole transitions obtained with different formalism. The possible applications of n-$γ$ correlations for studies of symmetry violations and electromagnetic transitions are discussed.

Neutron spin dynamics in polarized targets

We present neutron elastic scattering amplitude for arbitrary polarized target in irreducible spherical tensor representation. The general approach for the description of neutron spin dynamics for the propagation trough the medium with an arbitrary polarization is discussed in a relation to the search for time reversal invariance violation in neutron scattering.

Screening of Nucleon Electric Dipole Moments in Nuclei

A partial screening of nucleon electric dipole moments (EDMs) in nuclear systems, which is related to the Schiff mechanism known for neutral atomic systems, is discussed. It is shown that the direct contribution from the neutron EDM to the deuteron EDM is partially screened by about 1% in a zero-range approximation calculation.

Time Reversal Invariance Violating and Parity Conserving effects in Proton Deuteron Scattering

Time reversal invariance violating parity conserving (TVPC) effects are calculated for elastic proton deuteron scattering with proton energies up to $2~$MeV. Distorted Wave Born Approximation is employed to estimate TVPC matrix elements, based on hadronic wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev-Merkuriev equations in configuration space with realistic potentials.

On the Search for Time Reversal Invariance Violation in Neutron Transmission

Time Reversal Invariant Violating (TRIV) effects in neutron transmission through a nuclei target are discussed. We demonstrate the existence of a class of experiments that are free from falls asymmetries. We discuss enhancement of TRIV effects. We analyze a model experiment and show that such tests have a discovery potential of $10^2 - 10^4$ compare to current limits.

Nuclear electric dipole moment of three-body system

Nuclear electric dipole moments of $^{3}He$ and $^{3}H$ are calculated using Time Reversal Invariance Violating (TRIV) potentials based on the meson exchange theory, as well as the ones derived by using pionless and pionful effective field theories, with nuclear wave functions obtained by solving Faddeev equations in configuration space for the complete Hamiltonians comprising both TRIV and realistic strong interactions. The obtained results are compared with the previous calculations of $^{3}He$ EDM and with time reversal invariance violating effects in neutron-deuteron scattering.

Parity violation in radiative neutron capture on deuteron

Parity violating (PV) effects in neutron-deuteron radiative capture are studied using Desplanques, Donoghue, and Holstein (DDH) and effective field theory weak potentials. The values of PV effects are calculated using wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in configuration space for phenomenological strong potentials. The relations between physical observables and low-energy constants are presented, and dependencies of the calculated PV effects on strong and weak potentials are discussed. The presented analysis shows the possible reason for the existing discrepancy in PV nuclear data analysis using the DDH approach and reveals a new opportunity to study short range interactions in nuclei.

Time-Reversal Invariance Violation in Heavy and in Few-body Nuclei

Time reversal invariance violating (TRIV) effects in neutron scattering are very important in a search for new physics, being complementary to neutron and atomic electric dipole moment measurements. In this relation, a sensitivity of TRIV observables to different models of CP-violation and their dependencies on nuclear structure, which can lead to new enhancement factors, are discussed.

Time Reversal Invariance Violation in Neutron Deuteron Scattering

Time reversal invariance violating (TRIV) effects for low energy elastic neutron deuteron scattering are calculated for meson exchange and EFT-type of TRIV potentials in a Distorted Wave Born Approximation, using realistic hadronic strong interaction wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in configuration space. The relation between TRIV and parity violating observables are discussed.

Parity violation in low energy neutron deuteron scattering

Parity violating effects for low energy elastic neutron deuteron scattering are calculated for DDH and EFT-type of weak potentials in a Distorted Wave Born Approximation, using realistic hadronic strong interaction wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in configuration space. The results of relation between physical observables and low energy constants can be used to fix low energy constants from experiments. Potential model dependencies of parity violating effects are discussed.

Symmetry violations in few-body reactions: old and new approaches

As an attempt to find a way to resolve the discrepancy between calculated by traditional methods PV effects and the available set of experimental data, we analyze the methods of calculations of symmetry violating effects in few-body nuclear systems. The overview of methods of calculations of PV and TRIV effects in few-body neutron induced reactions is presented with the analysis of values of calculated parameters and their accuracy.

Parity violation in $n + ^3He \rightarrow ^3H + p$ reaction: resonance approach

The method based on microscopic theory of nuclear reactions has been applied for the analysis of parity violating effects in a few-body systems. Different parity violating and parity conserving asymmetries and their dependence on neutron energy have been estimated for $n + ^3He \rightarrow ^3H + p$ reaction. The estimated effects are in a good agreement with available exact calculations.

Faddeev-type equations for three-body symmetry violating scattering amplitudes

The equations which relate three-body and two-body symmetry violating scattering amplitudes are derived in the first order of symmetry violating interactions. They can be used to obtain three-body symmetry violating scattering amplitudes from two-body symmetry violating scattering amplitudes calculated in low energy effective field theory.

A Network Analysis Approach to fMRI Condition-Specific Functional Connectivity

In this work we focus on examination and comparison of whole-brain functional connectivity patterns measured with fMRI across experimental conditions. Direct examination and comparison of condition-specific matrices is challenging due to the large number of elements in a connectivity matrix. We present a framework that uses network analysis to describe condition-specific functional connectivity. Treating the brain as a complex system in terms of a network, we extract the most relevant connectivity information by partitioning each network into clusters representing functionally connected brain regions. Extracted clusters are used as features for predicting experimental condition in a new data set. The approach is illustrated on fMRI data examining functional connectivity patterns during processing of abstract and concrete concepts. Topological (brain regions) and functional (level of connectivity and information flow) systematic differences in the ROI-based functional networks were identified across participants for concrete and abstract concepts. These differences were sufficient for classification of previously unseen connectivity matrices as abstract or concrete based on training data derived from other people.
