The maps of matrices and portrait maps of density operators of composite and noncomposite systems

We obtain a new inequality for arbitrary Hermitian matrices. We describe particular linear maps called the matrix portrait of arbitrary NxN matrices. The maps are obtained as analogs of partial tracing of density matrices of multipartite qudit systems. The structure of the maps is inspired by "portrait" map of the probability vectors corresponding to the action on the vectors by stochastic matrices containing either unity or zero matrix elements. We obtain new entropic inequalities for arbitrary qudit states including a single qudit and an discuss entangled single qudit state. We consider in detail the examples of N=3 and 4. Also we point out a possible use of entangled states of systems without subsystems (e.g., a single qudit) as a resource for quantum computations.

Wigner function and the probability representation of quantum states

The relation of the Wigner function with the fair probability distribution called tomographic distribution or quantum tomogram associated with the quantum state is reviewed. The connection of the tomographic picture of quantum mechanics with the integral Radon transform of the Wigner quasidistribution is discussed. The Wigner--Moyal equation for the Wigner function is presented in the form of kinetic equation for the tomographic probability distribution both in quantum mechanics and in the classical limit of the Liouville equation. The calculation of moments of physical observables in terms of integrals with the state tomographic probability distributions is constructed having a standard form of averaging in the probability theory. New uncertainty relations for the position and momentum are written in terms of optical tomograms suitable for direct experimental check. Some recent experiments on checking the uncertainty relations including the entropic uncertainty relations are discussed.

Balance equations-based properties of the Rabi Hamiltonian

A stationary physical system satisfies peculiar balance conditions involving mean values of appropriate observables. In this paper we show how to deduce such quantitative links, named balance equations, demonstrating as well their usefulness in bringing to light physical properties of the system without solving the Schrodinger equation. The knowledge of such properties in the case of Rabi Hamiltonian is exploit to provide arguments to make easier the variational engineering of the ground state of this model.

Wigner functions and spin tomograms for qubit states

We establish the relation of the spin tomogram to the Wigner function on a discrete phase space of qubits. We use the quantizers and dequantizers of the spin tomographic star-product scheme for qubits to derive the expression for the kernel connecting Wigner symbols on the discrete phase space with the tomographic symbols.

Inequalities for nonnegative numbers and information properties

We discuss some inequalities for N nonnegative numbers. We use these inequalities to obtain known inequalities for probability distributions and new entropic and information inequalities for quantum tomograms of qudit states. The inequalities characterize the degree of quantum correlations in addition to noncontextuality and quantum discord. We use the subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions for qudit tomographic-probability distributions depending on the unitary-group parameters in order to derive new inequalities for Shannon, Renyi, and Tsallis entropies of spin states.

Hermite Polynomial Representation of the Spin States

The invertable map of spin state density operator onto quasiprobability distribution of three continuous variables is constructed. The connection with two-mode electromagnetic field oscillators is discussed. The inversion formula for spin-density matrix is given in terms of Hermite polynomials. The connection with the spin-tomographic representation is examined. The problem of the magnetic moment rotation in the magnetic field is considered in the suggested representation of spin states.

Tomographic entropic inequalities in the probability representation of quantum mechanics

A review of the tomographic-probability representation of classical and quantum states is presented. The tomographic entropies and entropic uncertainty relations are discussed in connection with ambiguities in the interpretation of the state tomograms which are considered either as a set of the probability distributions of random variables depending on extra parameters or as a single joint probability distribution of these random variables and random parameters with specific properties of the marginals. Examples of optical tomograms of photon states, symplectic tomograms, and unitary spin tomograms of qudits are given. A new universal integral inequality for generic wave function is obtained on the base of tomographic entropic uncertainty relations.

The Driven-Oscillator Evolution in the Tomografic-Probability Representation

We consider the problem of the driven harmonic oscillator in the probability representation of quantum mechanics, where the oscillator states are described by fair nonnegative probability distributions of position measured in rotated and squeezed reference frames in the system's phase space. For some specific oscillator states like coherent states and nth excited states, the tomographic-probability distributions (called the state tomograms) are found in an explicit form. The evolution equation for the tomograms is discussed for the classical and quantum driven oscillators, and the tomographic propagator for this equation is studied.

Classical and quantum free motions in the tomographic probability representation

Based on a geometric picture, the example of free particle motion for both classical and quantum domains is considered in the tomographic probability representation. Wave functions and density operators as well as optical and symplectic tomograms are obtained as solutions of kinetic classical and quantum equations for the state tomograms. The difference of tomograms of free particle for classical and quantum states is discussed.

Measuring microwave quantum states: tomogram and moments

Two measurable characteristics of microwave one-mode photon states are discussed: a rotated quadrature distribution (tomogram) and normally/antinormally ordered moments of photon creation and annihilation operators. Extraction of these characteristics from amplified microwave signal is presented. Relations between the tomogram and the moments are found and can be used as a cross check of experiments. Formalism of the ordered moments is developed. The state purity and generalized uncertainty relations are considered in terms of moments. Unitary and non-unitary time evolution of moments is obtained in the form of linear differential equations in contrast to partial differential equations for quasidistributions. Time evolution is specified for the cases of a harmonic oscillator and a damped harmonic oscillator, which describe noiseless and decoherence processes, respectively.

On calculating the mean values of quantum observables in the optical tomography representation

Given a density operator $\hat ρ$ the optical tomography map defines a one-parameter set of probability distributions $w_{\hat ρ}(X,ϕ),\ ϕ\in [0,2π),$ on the real line allowing to reconstruct $\hat ρ$. We introduce a dual map from the special class $\mathcal A$ of quantum observables $\hat a$ to a special class of generalized functions $a(X,ϕ)$ such that the mean value $<\hat a>_{\hat ρ} =Tr(\hat ρ\hat a)$ is given by the formula $<\hat a>_{\hat ρ}= \int \limits_{0}^{2π}\int \limits_{-\infty}^{+\infty}w_{\hat ρ}(X,ϕ)a(X,ϕ)dXdϕ$. The class $\mathcal A$ includes all the symmetrized polynomials of canonical variables $\hat q$ and $\hat p$.

Propagator of Quantum Systems in the Probability Representation

The evolution equation for the propagator of the quantum system in the optical probability representation (optical propagator) is obtained. The relations between the optical and quantum propagators for the Schrödinger equation and the optical propagator of an arbitrary quadratic system are found explicitly.

On the problem of quantum control in infinite dimensions

In the framework of bilinear control of the Schrödinger equation with bounded control operators, it has been proved that the reachable set has a dense complemement in ${\cal S}\cap {\cal H}^{2}$. Hence, in this setting, exact quantum control in infinite dimensions is not possible. On the other hand it is known that there is a simple choice of operators which, when applied to an arbitrary state, generate dense orbits in Hilbert space. Compatibility of these two results is established in this paper and, in particular, it is proved that the closure of the reachable set of bilinear control by bounded operators is dense in ${\cal S}\cap {\cal H}^{2}$. The requirements for controllability in infinite dimensions are also related to the properties of the infinite dimensional unitary group.

Scaling Separability Criterion: Application To Gaussian States

We introduce examples of three- and four-mode entangled Gaussian mixed states that are not detected by the scaling and Peres-Horodecki separability criteria. The presented modification of the scaling criterion resolves this problem. Also it is shown that the new criterion reproduces the main features of the scaling pictures for different cases of entangled states, while the previous versions lead to completely different outcomes. This property of the presented scheme is evidence of its higher generality.

Moyal and tomographic probability representations for f-oscillator quantum states

States of nonlinear quantum oscillators (f-oscillators) are considered in the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal representation and the tomographic probability representation, where the states are described by standard probability distributions instead of wave functions or density matrices. The evolving integrals of motion for classical and quantum f-oscillators are found and the solution for the Liouville equation associated with the probability distribution on the phase space for this oscillator is obtained along with the solution of Moyal equation for quantum f-oscillator, which provide the solutions for partial case of f-nonlinearity existing in Kerr media. Nonlinear coherent states and the thermodynamics of nonlinear oscillators are studied.
