Bell-type inequalities and upper bounds of multi-qudit states

Multi-qudit systems are studied in tomographic probability representations of quantum qudit states. Results of calculations for Bell-type numbers within the framework of classical probability theory and in quantum tomography are compared. Violation of Bell-type inequalities are shown explicitly using the method of averaging in tomographic picture of quantum states.

A use of the central limit theorem to obtain a classical limit for the center-of-mass tomogram

We investigate the dependence of the center-of-mass tomogram of a system with many degrees of freedom $N$ on the Planck constant $\hbar $. It is shown that to use the central limit theorem under taking the limit $N\to +\infty $ one should keep the energy of the system to be constant. In the case, the resulting distribution is Gaussian if the initial distribution is a product of independent excited states of a quantum oscillator or even and odd coherent states either. Then, if one turns the Planck constant $\hbar \to 0$ we get $δ$-function associated with the distribution concentrated in zero with the probability equal to one.

Frank-Condon principle and adjustment of optical waveguides with nonhomogeneous refractive indices

The adjustment of two different selfocs is considered using both exact formulas for the mode-connection coefficients expressed in terms of Hermite polynomials of several variables and a qualitative approach based on the Frank-Condon principle. Several examples of the refractive-index dependence are studied and illustrative plots for these examples are presented. The connection with the tomographic approach to quantum states of a two-dimensional oscillator and the Frank-Condon factors is established.

Separability and entanglement of four-mode Gaussian states

The known Peres-Horodecki criterion and scaling criterion of separability are considered on examples of three-mode and four-mode Gaussian states of electromagnetic field. It is shown that the principal minors of the photon quadrature dispersion matrix are sensitive to the change of scaling parameters. An empirical observation has shown that the bigger the modulus of negative principal minors, the more entangled the state.

Entropic uncertainty relations for electromagnetic beams

The symplectic tomograms of 2D Hermite--Gauss beams are found and expressed in terms of the Hermite polynomials squared. It is shown that measurements of optical-field intensities may be used to determine the tomograms of electromagnetic-radiation modes. Furthermore, entropic uncertainty relations associated with these tomograms are found and applied to establish the compatibility conditions of the the field profile properties with Hermite--Gauss beam description. Numerical evaluations for some Hermite--Gauss modes illustrating the corresponding entropic uncertainty relations are finally given.

Superposition rule and entanglement in diagonal and probability representations of density states

The quasidistributions corresponding to the diagonal representation of quantum states are discussed within the framework of operator-symbol construction. The tomographic-probability distribution describing the quantum state in the probability representation of quantum mechanics is reviewed. The connection of the diagonal and probability representations is discussed. The superposition rule is considered in terms of the density-operator symbols. The separability and entanglement properties of multipartite quantum systems are formulated as the properties of the density-operator symbols of the system states.

Quasiperiodic propagation in time of some classical/quantum systems: Nielsen's conserved quantity and Floquet properties

We consider classical and quantum propagators for two different time intervals. If these propagators follow one another in a Fibonacci sequence we get a discrete quasiperiodic system. A theorem due to Nielsen provides a novel conserved quantity for this system. The Nielsen quantity controls the transition between commutative and non-commutative propagation in time. The quasiperiodically kicked oscillator moreover is dominated by quasiperiodic analogues of the Floquet theorem.

A tomographic analysis of reflectometry data I: Component factorization

Many signals in Nature, technology and experiment have a multi-component structure. By spectral decomposition and projection on the eigenvectors of a family of unitary operators, a robust method is developed to decompose a signals in its components. Different signal traits may be emphasized by different choices of the unitary family. The method is illustrated in simulated data and on data obtained from plasma reflectometry experiments in the tore Supra.

On the information completeness of quantum tomograms

We address the problem of information completeness of quantum measuremets in connection to quantum state tomography and with particular concern to quantum symplectic tomography. We put forward some non-trivial situations where informationally incomplete set of tomograms allows as well the state reconstruction provided to have some a priori information on the state or its dynamics. We then introduce a measure of information completeness and apply it to symplectic quantum tomograms.

Star products, duality and double Lie algebras

Quantization of classical systems using the star-product of symbols of observables is discussed. In the star-product scheme an analysis of dual structures is performed and a physical interpretation is proposed. At the Lie algebra level duality is shown to be connected to double Lie algebras. The analysis is specified to quantum tomography. The classical tomographic Poisson bracket is found.

New uncertainty relations for tomographic entropy: Application to squeezed states and solitons

Using the tomographic probability distribution (symplectic tomogram) describing the quantum state (instead of the wave function or density matrix) and properties of recently introduced tomographic entropy associated with the probability distribution, the new uncertainty relation for the tomographic entropy is obtained. Examples of the entropic uncertainty relation for squeezed states and solitons of the Bose--Einstein condensate are considered.

A probabilistic approach to quantum mechanics based on tomograms

It is usually believed that a picture of Quantum Mechanics in terms of true probabilities cannot be given due to the uncertainty relations. Here we discuss a tomographic approach to quantum states that leads to a probability representation of quantum states. This can be regarded as a classical-like formulation of quantum mechanics which avoids the counterintuitive concepts of wave function and density operator. The relevant concepts of quantum mechanics are then reconsidered and the epistemological implications of such approach discussed.

Squeezing Operator and Squeeze Tomography

Some properties of Plebanski squeezing operator and squeezed states created with time-dependent quadratic in position and momentum Hamiltonians are reviewed. New type of tomography of quantum states called squeeze tomography is discussed.

A tomographic approach to quantum nonlocality

We propose a tomographic approach to study quantum nonlocality in continuous variable quantum systems. On one hand we derive a Bell-like inequality for measured tomograms. On the other hand, we introduce pseudospin operators whose statistics can be inferred from the data characterizing the reconstructed state, thus giving the possibility to use standard Bell's inequalities. Illuminating examples are also discussed.

Deformed versus undeformed cat states encoding qubit

We study the possibility of exploiting superpositions of coherent states to encode qubit. A comparison between the use of deformed and undeformed bosonic algebra is made in connection with the amplitude damping errors.
