Critical Lin-Lunin-Maldacena geometries

We study the critical behavior of the Lin-Lunin-Maldacena (LLM) geometry in the case when a droplet in the LLM base space develops a cusp. This cusp is a generic feature of the density of complex eigenvalues in the dual complex matrix model (CMM) computing the correlation functions of huge 1/2-BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory. It is also related to the criticality in CMM describing the pure $2D$ quantum gravity behavior. The supergravity dual -- LLM metric in the vicinity of the tip of the cusp -- acquires a universal $ISO(1,3)\times SO(5)$ symmetric form, with a naked singularity along a half-infinite line. Both massless and massive particles get trapped by this line singularity for almost any impact parameter. Generic trajectories ending on the singular line reach it in finite affine time, while the corresponding observer time diverges. An explicit analytic solution for a large class of massless trajectories together with the absence of stochastic behavior in the vicinity of the cusp hint on a certain integrability of the problem.

(Un)solvable Matrix Models for BPS Correlators

We propose and study a family of complex matrix models computing the protected two- and three-point correlation functions in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. Our description allows us to directly relate the eigenvalue density of the matrix model for ``Huge" operators with $ Δ\sim N^2$ to the shape of droplets in the dual Lin-Lunin-Maldacena (LLM) geometry. We demonstrate how to determine the eigenvalue distribution for various choices of operators such as those of exponential, character, or coherent state type, which then allows us to efficiently compute one-point functions of light chiral primaries in generic LLM backgrounds. In particular, we successfully match the results for light probes with the supergravity calculations of Skenderis and Taylor. We provide a large $N$ formalism for one-point functions of ``Giant" probes, such as operators dual to giant graviton branes in LLM backgrounds, and explicitly apply it for particular backgrounds. We also explicitly compute the correlator of three huge half-BPS operators of exponential type and stacks of determinant operators by reducing them to the known matrix model problems such as the Potts or $O(n)$ model on random planar graphs. Finally, we point out a curious relation between the correlators of $\frac{1}{4}$-BPS and $\frac{1}{8}$-BPS coherent state operators and the Eguchi-Kawai reduction of the Principal Chiral Model in $2D$ and $3D$ correspondingly.

Integrable Feynman Graphs and Yangian Symmetry on the Loom

We present significant evidence that the powerful property of Yangian invariance extends to a new large class of conformally invariant Feynman integrals. Our results apply to planar Feynman diagrams in any spacetime dimension dual to an arbitrary network of intersecting straight lines on a plane (Baxter lattice), with propagator powers determined by the geometry. We formulate Yangian symmetry in terms of a chain of Lax operators acting on the fixed coordinates around the graph, and we also extend this construction to the case of infinite-dimensional auxiliary space. Yangian invariance leads to new differential and integral equations for individual, highly nontrivial, Feynman graphs, and we present them explicitly for several examples. The graphs we consider determine correlators in the recently proposed loom fishnet CFTs. We also describe a generalization to the case with interaction vertices inside open faces of the diagram. Our construction unifies and greatly extends the known special cases of Yangian invariance to likely the most general family of integrable scalar planar graphs.

Huge BPS Operators and Fluid Dynamics in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM

In the bulk dual of holography, huge operators correspond to sources so heavy that they fully backreact on the space-time geometry. Here we study the correlation function of three such huge operators when they are given by $1/2$ BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory, dual to IIB Strings in $AdS_5 \times S^5$. We unveil simple matrix model representations for these correlators which we can sometimes solve analytically. For general huge operators, we translate these matrix model expressions into a $1+1$ dimensional hydrodynamical fluid problem. This fluid is integrable thus unveiling a novel integrable sector of the $AdS/CFT$ duality in a full fledged gravitational regime, very far from the usual free string planar regime where integrability reigns supreme. We explain how an adiabatic deformation method can be developed to yield the solution to an integrable discrete formulation of these fluids -- the rational Calogero-Moser Model -- so we can access the general three point correlation functions of generic huge $1/2$-BPS operators. Everything will be done on the gauge theory side of the duality. It would be fascinating to find the holographic dual of these matrix models and fluids.

Bootstrap for Lattice Yang-Mills theory

We study the $SU(\infty)$ lattice Yang-Mills theory at the dimensions $D=2,3,4$ via the numerical bootstrap method. It combines the Makeenko-Migdal loop equations, with a cut-off $L_{\mathrm{max}}$ on the maximal length of loops, and positivity conditions on certain matrices of Wilson loops. Our algorithm is inspired by the pioneering paper of P. Anderson and M. Kruczenski but it is significantly more efficient, as it takes into account the symmetries of the lattice theory and uses the relaxation procedure in line with our previous work on matrix bootstrap. We thus obtain rigorous upper and lower bounds on the plaquette average at various couplings and dimensions. For $D=4$, the lower bound data appear to be close to the MC data in the strong coupling phase and the upper bound data in the weak coupling phase reproduce well the 3-loop perturbation theory. Our results suggest that this bootstrap approach can provide a tangible alternative to the, so far uncontested, Monte Carlo approach.

Checkerboard CFT

The Checkerboard conformal field theory is an interesting representative of a large class of non-unitary, logarithmic Fishnet CFTs (FCFT) in arbitrary dimension which have been intensively studied in the last years. Its planar Feynman graphs have the structure of a regular square lattice with checkerboard colouring. Such graphs are integrable since each coloured cell of the lattice is equal to an R-matrix in the principal series representations of the conformal group. We compute perturbatively and numerically the anomalous dimension of the shortest single-trace operator in two reductions of the Checkerboard CFT: the first one corresponds to the Fishnet limit of the twisted ABJM theory in 3D, whereas the spectrum in the second, 2D reduction contains the energy of the BFKL Pomeron. We derive an analytic expression for the Checkerboard analogues of Basso--Dixon 4-point functions, as well as for the class of Diamond-type 4-point graphs with disc topology. The properties of the latter are studied in terms of OPE for operators with open indices. We prove that the spectrum of the theory receives corrections only at even orders in the loop expansion and we conjecture such a modification of Checkerboard CFT where quantum corrections occur only with a given periodicity in the loop order.

Bootstrap for Finite N Lattice Yang-Mills Theory

We introduce a comprehensive framework for analyzing finite $N$ lattice Yang-Mills theory and finite $N$ matrix models. Utilizing this framework, we examine the bootstrap approach to SU(2) Lattice Yang-Mills Theory in 2,3 and 4 dimensions. The SU(2) Makeenko-Migdal loop equations on the lattice are linear and closed exclusively on single-trace Wilson loops. This inherent linearity significantly enhances the efficiency of the bootstrap approach due to the convex nature of the problem, permitting the inclusion of Wilson loops up to length 24. The exact upper and lower margins for the free energy per plaquette, derived from our bootstrap method, demonstrate good agreement with Monte Carlo data, achieving precision within $0.1\%$ for the physically relevant range of couplings in both three and four dimensions. Additionally, our bootstrap data provides estimates of the string tension, in qualitative agreement with existing Monte Carlo computations.

Large-N Principal Chiral Model in Arbitrary External Fields

We report the explicit solution for the vacuum state of the two-dimensional $SU(N)$ Principal Chiral Model at large-$N$ for an arbitrary set of chemical potentials and any interaction strength, a unique result of such kind for an asymptotically free QFT. The solution matches one-loop perturbative calculation at weak coupling, and in the opposite strong-coupling regime exhibits an emergent spacial dimension from the continuum limit of the $SU(N)$ Dynkin diagram.

A Flow in the Forest

Using the matrix-forest theorem and the Parisi-Sourlas trick we formulate and solve a one-matrix model with non-polynomial potential which provides perturbation theory for massive spinless fermions on dynamical planar graphs. This is a lattice version of 2d quantum gravity coupled to massive spinless fermions. Our model equivalently describes the ensemble of spanning forests on the same graphs. The solution is formulated in terms of an elliptic curve. We then focus on a near-critical scaling limit when both the graphs and the trees in the forests are macroscopically large. In this limit we obtain universal one-point scaling functions (condensates), parameterized in terms of the Lambert function. Our results provide a rare example where one can explore the flow between two gravity models -- in this case, the theories of conformal matter coupled to 2d gravity with c=-2 (large trees regime) and c=0 (small trees regime). We also compute the disc partition functions with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions in the same critical limit.

The Loom for General Fishnet CFTs

We propose a broad class of $d$-dimensional conformal field theories of $SU(N)$ adjoint scalar fields generalising the 4$d$ Fishnet CFT (FCFT) discovered by Ö. Gürdogan and one of the authors as a special limit of $γ$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory. In the planar $N\to\infty $ limit the FCFTs are dominated by the ``fishnet" planar Feynman graphs. These graphs are explicitly integrable, as was shown long ago by A. Zamolodchikov. The Zamolodchikov's construction, based on the dual Baxter lattice (straight lines on the plane intersecting at arbitrary slopes) and the star-triangle identities, can serve as a ``loom" for ``weaving" the Feynman graphs of these FCFTs, with certain types of propagators, at any $d$. The Baxter lattice with $M$ different slopes and any number of lines parallel to those, generates an FCFT consisting of $M(M-1)$ fields and a certain number of chiral vertices of different valences with distinguished couplings. These non-unitary, logarithmic CFTs enjoy certain reality properties for their spectrum due to a symmetry similar to the PT-invariance of non-hermitian hamiltonians proposed by C. Bender. We discuss in more detail the theories generated by a loom with $M=2,3,4$, and the generalisation of the loom FCFTs for spinning fields in 4$d$.

Analytic and Numerical Bootstrap for One-Matrix Model and "Unsolvable" Two-Matrix Model

We propose the relaxation bootstrap method for the numerical solution of multi-matrix models in the large $N$ limit, developing and improving the recent proposal of H.Lin. It gives rigorous inequalities on the single trace moments of the matrices up to a given "cutoff" order (length) of the moments. The method combines usual loop equations on the moments and the positivity constraint on the correlation matrix of the moments. We have a rigorous proof of applicability of this method in the case of the one-matrix model where the condition of positivity of the saddle point solution appears to be equivalent to the presence of supports of the eigenvalue distribution only on the real axis and only with positive weight. We demonstrate the numerical efficiency of our method by solving the analytically "unsolvable" two-matrix model with $\mathrm{tr}[A,B]^2$ interaction and quartic potentials, even for solutions with spontaneously broken discrete symmetry. The region of values for computed moments allowed by inequalities quickly shrinks with the increase of the cutoff, allowing the precision of about 6 digits for generic values of couplings in the case of $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetric solutions. Our numerical data are checked against the known analytic results for particular values of parameters.

Disc partition function of 2d $R^2$ gravity from DWG matrix model

We compute the sum over flat surfaces of disc topology with arbitrary number of conical singularities. To that end, we explore and generalize a specific case of the matrix model of dually weighted graphs (DWG) proposed and solved by one of the authors, M. Staudacher and Th. Wynter. Namely, we compute the sum over quadrangulations of the disc with certain boundary conditions, with parameters controlling the number of squares (area), the length of the boundary and the coordination numbers of vertices. The vertices introduce conical defects with angle deficit given by a multiple of $π$, corresponding to positive, zero or negative curvature. Our results interpolate between the well-known 2d quantum gravity solution for the disc with fluctuating 2d metric and the regime of 'almost flat' surfaces with all the negative curvature concentrated on the boundary. We also speculate on possible ways to study the fluctuating 2d geometry with $AdS_2$ background instead of the flat one.

QQ-system and Weyl-type transfer matrices in integrable SO(2r) spin chains

We propose the full system of Baxter Q-functions (QQ-system) for the integrable spin chains with the symmetry of the $D_r$ Lie algebra. We use this QQ-system to derive new Weyl-type formulas expressing transfer matrices in all symmetric and antisymmetric (fundamental) representations through $r+1$ basic Q-functions. Our functional relations are consistent with the Q-operators proposed recently by one of the authors and verified explicitly on the level of operators at small finite length.

Spontaneous Conformal Symmetry Breaking in Fishnet CFT

Quantum field theories with exact but spontaneously broken conformal invariance have an intriguing feature: their vacuum energy (cosmological constant) is equal to zero. Up to now, the only known ultraviolet complete theories where conformal symmetry can be spontaneously broken were associated with supersymmetry (SUSY), with the most prominent example being the $\mathcal N$=4 SUSY Yang-Mills. In this Letter we show that the recently proposed conformal "fishnet" theory supports at the classical level a rich set of flat directions (moduli) along which conformal symmetry is spontaneously broken. We demonstrate that, at least perturbatively, some of these vacua survive in the full quantum theory (in the planar limit, at the leading order of $1/N_c$ expansion) without any fine tuning. The vacuum energy is equal to zero along these flat directions, providing the first non-SUSY example of a four-dimensional quantum field theory with "natural" breaking of conformal symmetry.

Double-Scaling Limit in Principal Chiral Model: a New Non-Critical String?

We initiate a systematic, non-perturbative study of the large-$N$ expansion in the two-dimensional $\text{SU}(N)\times \text{SU}(N)$ Principal Chiral Model (PCM). Starting with the known infinite-$N$ solution for the ground state at fixed chemical potential \cite{Fateev:1994dp,Fateev:1994ai}, we devise an iterative procedure to solve the Bethe ansatz equations order by order in $1/N$. The first few orders, which we explicitly compute, reveal a systematic enhancement pattern at strong coupling calling for the near-threshold resummation of the large-$N$ expansion. The resulting double-scaling limit bears striking similarities to the $c=1$ non-critical string theory and suggests that the double-scaled PCM is dual to a non-critical string with a $(2+1)$-dimensional target space where an additional dimension emerges dynamically from the $\text{SU}(N)$ Dynkin diagram.

N=4 SYM Quantum Spectral Curve in BFKL regime

We review the applications of the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) method to the Regge (BFKL) limit in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. QSC, based on quantum integrability of the AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ duality, was initially developed as a tool for the study of the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of local operators in the N=4 SYM in the planar, $N_c\to\infty$ limit. We explain how to apply the QSC for the BFKL limit, which requires non-trivial analytic continuation in spin $S$ and extends the initial construction to non-local light-ray operators. We give a brief review of high precision non-perturbative numerical solutions and analytic perturbative data resulting from this approach. We also describe as a simple example of the QSC construction the leading order in the BFKL limit. We show that the QSC substantially simplifies in this limit and reduces to the Faddeev-Korchemsky Baxter equation for Q-functions. Finally, we review recent results for the Fishnet CFT, which carries a number of similarities with the Lipatov's integrable spin chain for interacting reggeized gluons.

Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz for Fishnet CFT

We present the TBA equations and the Y-system for the exact spectrum of general multi-magnon local operators in the $D$-dimensional anisotropic version of the bi-scalar fishnet CFT. The mixing matrix of such operators is given in terms of fishnet planar graphs of multi-wheel and multi-spiral type. These graphs probe the two main building blocks of the TBA approach that are the magnon dispersion relation and the magnon scattering matrix and which we both obtain by diagonalising suitable graph-building operators. We also obtain the dual version of the TBA equations, which relates, in the continuum limit, $D$-dimensional graphs to two dimensional sigma models in $AdS_{D+1}$. It allows us to verify a general formula obtained by A.~Zamolodchikov for the critical coupling.

Generalized Fishnets and Exact Four-Point Correlators in Chiral CFT$_4$

We study the Feynman graph structure and compute certain exact four-point correlation functions in chiral CFT$_4$ proposed by Ö.Gürdoğan and one of the authors as a double scaling limit of $γ$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory. We give full description of bulk behavior of large Feynman graphs: it shows a generalized "dynamical fishnet" structure, with a dynamical exchange of bosonic and Yukawa couplings. We compute certain four-point correlators in the full chiral CFT$_4$, generalizing recent results for a particular one-coupling version of this theory -- the bi-scalar "fishnet" CFT. We sum up exactly the corresponding Feynman diagrams, including both bosonic and fermionic loops, by Bethe-Salpeter method. This provides explicit OPE data for various twist-2 operators with spin, showing a rich analytic structure, both in coordinate and coupling spaces.
