Finite-size effects from higher conservation laws for the one-dimensional Bose gas

We consider a generalized Lieb-Liniger model, describing a one-dimensional Bose gas with all its conservation laws appearing in the density matrix. This will be the case for the generalized Gibbs ensemble, or when the conserved charges are added to the Hamiltonian. The finite-size corrections are calculated for the energy spectrum. Large-distance asymptotics of correlation functions are then determined using methods from conformal field theory.

Mimicking interacting relativistic theories with stationary pulses of light

One of the most well known relativistic field theory models is the Thirring model (TM). Its realization can demonstrate the famous prediction for the renormalization of mass due to interactions. However, experimental verification of the latter requires complex accelerator experiments whereas analytical solutions of the model can be extremely cumbersome to obtain. In this work, following Feynman's original proposal, we propose a alternative quantum system as a simulator of the TM dynamics. Here the relativistic particles are mimicked, counter-intuitively, by polarized photons in a quantum nonlinear medium. We show that the entire set of regimes of the Thirring model -- bosonic or fermionic, and massless or massive -- can be faithfully reproduced using coherent light trapping techniques. The sought after correlations' scalings can be extracted by simple probing of the coherence functions of the light using standard optical techniques.

Entanglement of disjoint blocks in the one dimensional Spin 1 VBS

Starting with the valence bond solid (VBS) ground state of the 1D AKLT Hamiltonian, we make a partition of the system in 2 subsystems $A$ and $B$, where $A$ is a block of $L$ consecutive spins and $B$ is it's complement. In that setting we compute the partial transpose density matrix with respect to $A$, $ρ^{T_A}$. We obtain the spectrum of the transposed density matrix of the VBS pure system. Subsequently we define two disjoint blocks, $A$ and $B$ containing $L_A$ and $L_B$ spins respectively, separated by $L$ sites. Tracing away the spins which do not belong to $A\cup B$, we find an expression for the reduced density matrix of the $A$ and $B$ blocks $ρ(A,B)$. With this expression (in the thermodynamic limit), we compute the entanglement spectrum and other several entanglement measures, as the purity $P={\rm tr}(ρ(A,B)^2)$, the negativity $\mathcal{N}$, and the mutual entropy.

Quantum Gates Between Flying Qubits via Spin-Independent Scattering

We show how the spin independent scattering between two identical flying qubits can be used to implement an entangling quantum gate between them. We consider one dimensional models with a delta interaction in which the qubits undergoing the collision are distinctly labeled by their opposite momenta. The logical states of the qubit may either be two distinct spin (or other internal) states of a fermion or a boson or two distinct momenta magnitudes of a spinless boson. Our scheme could be added to linear optics-like quantum information processing to enhance its efficiency, and can also aid the scaling of quantum computers based on static qubits without resorting to photons. Three distinct ingredients -- the quantum indistinguishability of the qubits, their interaction, and their dimensional confinement, come together in a natural way to enable the quantum gate.

Boundary effects to the entanglement entropy and two-site entanglement of the spin-1 valence-bond solid

We investigate the von Neumann entropy of a block of subsystem for the valence-bond solid (VBS) state with general open boundary conditions. We show that the effect of the boundary on the von Neumann entropy decays exponentially fast in the distance between the subsystem considered and the boundary sites. Further, we show that as the size of the subsystem increases, its von Neumann entropy exponentially approaches the summation of the von Neumann entropies of the two ends, the exponent being related to the size. In contrast to critical systems, where boundary effects to the von Neumann entropy decay slowly, the boundary effects in a VBS, a non-critical system, decay very quickly. We also study the entanglement between two spins. Curiously, while the boundary operators decrease the von Neumann entropy of L spins, they increase the entanglement between two spins.

Binary Quantum Search

Database search has wide applications and is used as a subroutine in many important algorithms. We shall consider a database with one target item. Quantum algorithm finds the target item in a database faster than any classical algorithm. It frequently occurs in practice that only a portion of information about the target item is interesting, or we need to find a group of items sharing some common feature as the target item. This problem is in general formulated as search for a part of the database [a block] containing the target item, instead of the item itself. This is partial search. Partial search trades accuracy for speed, i.e. it works faster than a full search. Partial search algorithm was discovered by Grover and Radhakrishnan. We shall consider optimized version of the algorithm and call it GRK. It can be applied successively [in a sequence]. First the database is partitioned into blocks and we use GRK to find the target block. Then this target block is partitioned into sub-blocks and we use GRK again to find the target sub-block. [We can call it binary quantum search.] Another possibility is to partition the database into sub-blocks directly and use GRK to find the target sub-block in one time. In this paper we prove that the latter is faster [makes less queries to the oracle].

Quantum Partial Search of a Database with Several Target Items

We consider a database separated into blocks. Blocks containing target items are called target blocks. Blocks without target items are called non-target blocks. We consider a case, when each target block has the same number of target items. We present a fast quantum algorithm, which finds one of the target blocks. Our algorithm is based on Grover-Radhakrishnan algorithm of partial search. We minimize the number of queries to the oracle.

Valence-Bond-Solid state entanglement in a 2-D Cayley tree

The Valence-Bond-Solid (VBS) states are in general ground states for certain gapped models. We consider the entanglement of VBS states on a two-dimensional Cayley tree. We show that the entropy of the reduced density operator does not depend on the whole size of the Cayley tree. We also show that asymptotically, the entropy is liearly proportional to the number of singlet states cut by the reduced density operator of the VBS state.

Quest for Fast Partial Search Algorithm

Quantum algorithm can find target item in a database faster than any classical. One can trade accuracy for speed and find a part of the database (a block) containing the target item even faster: this is partial search. One can think of partial search in following terms: an exact address of the target item is given by a sequence of many bites, but we want to find only several first bites of the address. We consider different partial search algorithms consisting of a sequence of global and local searches and suggest the optimal one. Global search consists of the standard Grover iterations for the whole database. Local search consists of Grover iterations in each individual block made simultaneously in all blocks. Efficiency of an algorithm is measured by number of queries to the oracle.

Optimization of Partial Search

Quantum Grover search algorithm can find a target item in a database faster than any classical algorithm. One can trade accuracy for speed and find a part of the database (a block) containing the target item even faster, this is partial search. A partial search algorithm was recently suggested by Grover and Radhakrishnan. Here we optimize it. Efficiency of the search algorithm is measured by number of queries to the oracle. The author suggests new version of Grover-Radhakrishnan algorithm which uses minimal number of queries to the oracle. The algorithm can run on the same hardware which is used for the usual Grover algorithm.

Universality of Entropy Scaling in 1D Gap-less Models

We consider critical models in one dimension. We study the ground state in thermodynamic limit [infinite lattice]. Following Bennett, Bernstein, Popescu, and Schumacher, we use the entropy of a sub-system as a measure of entanglement. We calculate the entropy of a part of the ground state. At zero temperature it describes entanglement of this part with the rest of the ground state. We obtain an explicit formula for the entropy of the subsystem at low temperature. At zero temperature we reproduce a logarithmic formula of Holzhey, Larsen and Wilczek. Our derivation is based on the second law of thermodynamics. The entropy of a subsystem is calculated explicitly for Bose gas with delta interaction, the Hubbard model and spin chains with arbitrary value of spin.

Universality of the one dimensional Bose gas with delta interaction

We consider several models of interacting bosons in a one dimensional lattice. Some of them are not integrable like the Bose-Hubbard others are integrable. At low density all of these models can be described by the Bose gas with delta interaction. The lattice corrections corresponding to the different models are contrasted.

Entanglement in a Valence-Bond-Solid State

We study entanglement in Valence-Bond-Solid state. It describes the ground state of Affleck, Kennedy, Lieb and Tasaki quantum spin chain. The AKLT model has a gap and open boundary conditions. We calculate an entropy of a subsystem (continuous block of spins). It quantifies the entanglement of this block with the rest of the ground state. We prove that the entanglement approaches a constant value exponentially fast as the size of the subsystem increases. Actually we proved that the density matrix of the continuous block of spins depends only on the length of the block, but not on the total size of the chain [distance to the ends also not essential]. We also study reduced density matrices of two spins both in the bulk and on the boundary. We evaluated concurrencies.

Thermodynamic interpretation of quantum error correcting criterion

Shanon's fundamental coding theorems relate classical information theory to thermodynamics. More recent theoretical work has been successful in relating quantum information theory to thermodynamics. For example, Schumacher proved a quantum version of Shannon's 1948 classical noiseless coding theorem. In this note, we extend the connection between quantum information theory and thermodynamics to include quantum error correction. There is a standard mechanism for describing errors that may occur during the transmission, storage, and manipulation of quantum information. One can formulate a criterion of necessary and sufficient conditions for the errors to be detectable and correctable. We show that this criterion has a thermodynamical interpretation.

New formulae for solutions of quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations on level -4

We present a new form of solution to the quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation on level -4 in a special case corresponding to the Heisenberg XXX spin chain. Our form is equivalent to the integral representation obtained by Jimbo and Miwa in 1996 . An advantage of our form is that it is reduced to the product of single integrals. This fact is deeply related to a cohomological nature of our formulae. Our approach is also based on the deformation of hyper-elliptic integrals and their main property -- deformed Riemann bilinear relation. Jimbo and Miwa also suggested a nice conjecture which relates solution of the qKZ on level -4 to any correlation function of the XXX model. This conjecture together with our form of solution to the qKZ makes it possible to prove a conjecture that any correlation function of the XXX model can be expressed in terms of the Riemann zeta-function at odd arguments and rational coefficients suggested in our previous papers. This issue will be discussed in our next publication.

New formulae for solutions of quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations on level -4 and correlation functions

This paper is continuation of our previous papers hep-th/0209246 and hep-th/0304077 . We discuss in more detail a new form of solution to the quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation [qKZ] on level -4 obtained in the paper hep-th/0304077 for the Heisenberg XXX spin chain. The main advantage of this form is it's explicit reducibility to one-dimensional integrals. We argue that the deep mathematical reason for this is some special cohomologies of deformed Jacobi varieties. We apply this new form of solution to the correlation functions using the Jimbo-Miwa conjecture. A formula (46) for the correlation functions obtained in this way is in a good agreement with the ansatz for the emptiness formation probability from the paper hep-th/0209246. Our previous conjecture on a structure of correlation functions of the XXX model in the homogeneous limit through the Riemann zeta functions at odd arguments is a corollary of the formula (46).
