On the 3-wave Equations with Constant Boundary Conditions

The inverse scattering transform for a special case of the 3-wave resonant interaction equations with non-vanishing boundary conditions is studied. The Jost solutions and the fundamental analytic solutions (FAS) for the associated spectral problem are constructed. The inverse scattering problem for the Lax operator is formulated as a Riemann-Hilbert problem on a Riemann surface. The spectral properties of the Lax operator are formulated.

On new types of integrable 4-wave interactions

We start with a Riemann-Hilbert Problems (RHP) with canonical normalization whose sewing functions depends on two or more additional variables. Using Zakharov-Shabat theorem we are able to construct a family of ordinary differential operators for which the solution of the RHP is a common fundamental analytic solution. This family of operators obviously commute provided their coefficients satisfy certain nonlinear evolution equations. Thus we are able to construct new classes of integrable nonlinear evolution equations. We illustrate the method with an example of a new type 4-wave interactions. Its Lax pair consists of operators which are both quadratic in the spectral parameter $λ$ and take values in the so(5) algebra.

On Soliton Interactions for a Hierarchy of Generalized Heisenberg Ferromagnetic Models on SU(3)/S(U(1) $\times$ U(2)) Symmetric Space

We consider an integrable hierarchy of nonlinear evolution equations (NLEE) related to linear bundle Lax operator L. The Lax representation is Z2 \times Z2 reduced and is naturally associated with the symmetric space SU(3)/S(U(1) \times U(2)). The simplest nontrivial equation in the hierarchy is a generalization of Heisenberg ferromagnetic model. We construct the N-soliton solutions for an arbitrary member of the hierarchy by using the Zakharov-Shabat dressing method with an appropriately chosen dressing factor. Two types of soliton solutions: quadruplet and doublet solitons are found. The one-soliton solutions of NLEEs with even and odd dispersion laws have different properties. In particular, the one-soliton solutions for NLEEs with even dispersion laws are not traveling waves; their velocities and their amplitudes are time dependent. Calculating the asymptotics of the N-soliton solutions for t \rightarrow \pm \infty we analyze the interactions of quadruplet solitons.

Polynomial Bundles and Generalised Fourier Transforms for Integrable Equations on A.III-type Symmetric Spaces

A special class of integrable nonlinear differential equations related to A.III-type symmetric spaces and having additional reductions are analyzed via the inverse scattering method (ISM). Using the dressing method we construct two classes of soliton solutions associated with the Lax operator. Next, by using the Wronskian relations, the mapping between the potential and the minimal sets of scattering data is constructed. Furthermore, completeness relations for the 'squared solutions' (generalized exponentials) are derived. Next, expansions of the potential and its variation are obtained. This demonstrates that the interpretation of the inverse scattering method as a generalized Fourier transform holds true. Finally, the Hamiltonian structures of these generalized multi-component Heisenberg ferromagnetic (MHF) type integrable models on A.III-type symmetric spaces are briefly analyzed.

On the (Non)-Integrability of KdV Hierarchy with Self-consistent Sources

Non-holonomic deformations of integrable equations of the KdV hierarchy are studied by using the expansions over the so-called "squared solutions" (squared eigenfunctions). Such deformations are equivalent to perturbed models with external (self-consistent) sources. In this regard, the KdV6 equation is viewed as a special perturbation of KdV equation. Applying expansions over the symplectic basis of squared eigenfunctions, the integrability properties of the KdV hierarchy with generic self-consistent sources are analyzed. This allows one to formulate a set of conditions on the perturbation terms that preserve the integrability. The perturbation corrections to the scattering data and to the corresponding action-angle variables are studied. The analysis shows that although many nontrivial solutions of KdV equations with generic self-consistent sources can be obtained by the Inverse Scattering Transform (IST), there are solutions that, in principle, can not be obtained via IST. Examples are considered showing the complete integrability of KdV6 with perturbations that preserve the eigenvalues time-independent. In another type of examples the soliton solutions of the perturbed equations are presented where the perturbed eigenvalue depends explicitly on time. Such equations, however in general, are not completely integrable.

The scattering problem for a noncommutative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We investigate scattering properties of a Moyal deformed version of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in an even number of space dimensions. With rather weak conditions on the degree of nonlinearity, the Cauchy problem for general initial data has a unique globally defined solution, and also has soliton solutions if the interaction potential is suitably chosen. We demonstrate how to set up a scattering framework for equations of this type, including appropriate decay estimates of the free time evolution and the construction of wave operators defined for small scattering data in the general case and for arbitrary scattering data in the rotationally symmetric case.

Bose-Einstein Condensates and spectral properties of multicomponent nonlinear Schrodinger equations

We analyze the properties of the soliton solutions of a class of models describing one-dimensional BEC with spin F. We describe the minimal sets of scattering data which determine uniquely both the corresponding potential of the Lax operator and its scattering matrix. Next we give several reductions of these MNLS, derive their N-soliton solutions and analyze the soliton interactions. Finally we prove an important theorem proving that if the initial conditions satisfy the reduction then one gets a solution of the reduced MNLS.

Reductions of Multicomponent mKdV Equations on Symmetric Spaces of DIII-Type

New reductions for the multicomponent modified Korteveg-de Vries (MMKdV) equations on the symmetric spaces of {\bf DIII}-type are derived using the approach based on the reduction group introduced by A.V. Mikhailov. The relevant inverse scattering problem is studied and reduced to a Riemann-Hilbert problem. The minimal sets of scattering data $\mathcal{T}_i$, $i=1,2$ which allow one to reconstruct uniquely both the scattering matrix and the potential of the Lax operator are defined. The effect of the new reductions on the hierarchy of Hamiltonian structures of MMKdV and on $\mathcal{T}_i$ are studied. We illustrate our results by the MMKdV equations related to the algebra $\mathfrak{g}\simeq so(8)$ and derive several new MMKdV-type equations using group of reductions isomorphic to ${\mathbb Z}_{2}$, ${\mathbb Z}_{3}$, ${\mathbb Z}_{4}$.

Generalised Fourier transform for the Camassa-Holm hierarchy

The squared eigenfunctions of the spectral problem associated to the Camassa-Holm equation represent a complete basis of functions, which helps to describe the Inverse Scattering Transform for the Camassa-Holm hierarchy as a Generalised Fourier transform. The main result of this work is the derivation of the completeness relation for the squared solutions of the Camassa-Holm spectral problem. We show that all the fundamental properties of the Camassa-Holm equation such as the integrals of motion, the description of the equations of the whole hierarchy and their Hamiltonian structures can be naturally expressed making use of the completeness relation and the recursion operator, whose eigenfunctions are the squared solutions.

Exact Solutions for Equations of Bose-Fermi Mixtures in One-Dimensional Optical Lattice

We present two new families of stationary solutions for equations of Bose-Fermi mixtures with an elliptic function potential with modulus $k$. We also discuss particular cases when the quasiperiodic solutions become periodic ones. In the limit of a sinusoidal potential ($k\to 0$) our solutions model a quasi-one dimensional quantum degenerate Bose-Fermi mixture trapped in optical lattice. In the limit $k\to 1$ the solutions are expressed by hyperbolic function solutions (vector solitons). Thus we are able to obtain in an unified way quasi-periodic and periodic waves, and solitons. The precise conditions for existence of every class of solutions are derived. There are indications that such waves and localized objects may be observed in experiments with cold quantum degenerate gases.

N-Wave Equations with Orthogonal Algebras: Z_2 and Z_2 \times Z_2 Reductions and Soliton Solutions

We consider $N$-wave type equations related to the orthogonal algebras obtained from the generic ones via additional reductions. The first $\mathbb{Z}_2$-reduction is the canonical one. We impose a second $\mathbb{Z}_2$-reduction and consider also the combined action of both reductions. For all three types of $N$-wave equations we construct the soliton solutions by appropriately modifying the Zakharov-Shabat dressing method. We also briefly discuss the different types of one-soliton solutions. Especially rich are the types of one-soliton solutions in the case when both reductions are applied. This is due to the fact that we have two different configurations of eigenvalues for the Lax operator $L$: doublets, which consist of pairs of purely imaginary eigenvalues, and quadruplets. Such situation is analogous to the one encountered in the sine-Gordon case, which allows two types of solitons: kinks and breathers. A new physical system, describing Stokes-anti Stokes Raman scattering is obtained. It is represented by a 4-wave equation related to the ${\bf B}_2$ algebra with a canonical $\mathbb{Z}_2$ reduction.

Inverse Scattering Transform for the Camassa-Holm equation

An Inverse Scattering Method is developed for the Camassa-Holm equation. As an illustration of our approach the solutions corresponding to the reflectionless potentials are explicitly constructed in terms of the scattering data. The main difference with respect to the standard Inverse Scattering Transform lies in the fact that we have a weighted spectral problem. We therefore have to develop different asymptotic expansions.

Basic aspects of soliton theory

This is a review of the main ideas of the inverse scattering method (ISM) for solving nonlinear evolution equations (NLEE), known as soliton equations. As a basic tool we use the fundamental analytic solutions (FAS) of the Lax operator L. Then the inverse scattering problem for L reduces to a Riemann-Hilbert problem. Such construction cab be applied to wide class of Lax operators, related to the simple Lie algebras g. We construct the kernel of the resolvent of L in terms of FAS and derive the spectral decompositions of L. Thus we can solve the relevant classes of NLEE which include the NLS eq. and its multi-component generalizations, the N-wave equations etc. Using the dressing method of Zakharov and Shabat we derive the N-soliton solutions of these equations. We explain that the ISM is a natural generalization of the Fourier transform method. As appropriate generalizations of the usual exponential function we use the so-called "squared solutions" which are constructed again in terms of FAS and the Cartan-Weyl basis of the relevant Lie algebra. One can prove the completeness relations for the "squared solutions" which in fact provide the spectral decompositions of the recursion operator Λ. These decompositions can be used to derive all fundamental properties of the corresponding NLEE in terms of Λ: i) the explicit form of the class of integrable NLEE; ii) the generating functionals of integrals of motion; iii) the hierarchies of Hamiltonian structures. We outline the importance of the classical R-matrices for extracting the involutive integrals of motion.

On Reductions and Real Hamiltonian Forms of Affine Toda Field Theories

A family of real Hamiltonian forms (RHF) for the special class of affine 1+1 - dimensional Toda field theories is constructed. Thus the method, proposed in [Mikhailov;1981] for systems with finite number of degrees of freedom is generalized to infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. We show that each of these RHF is related to a special Z_2-symmetry of the system of roots for the relevant Kac-Moody algebra. A number of explicit nontrivial examples of RHF of ATFT are presented.

Real Hamiltonian Forms of Affine Toda Models Related to Exceptional Lie Algebras

The construction of a family of real Hamiltonian forms (RHF) for the special class of affine 1+1-dimensional Toda field theories (ATFT) is reported. Thus the method, proposed in [1] for systems with finite number of degrees of freedom is generalized to infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. The construction method is illustrated on the explicit nontrivial example of RHF of ATFT related to the exceptional algebras E_6 and E_7. The involutions of the local integrals of motion are proved by means of the classical R-matrix approach.
