Polynomial Sequences of Binomial Type and Path Integrals

Polynomial sequences $p_n(x)$ of binomial type are a principal tool in the umbral calculus of enumerative combinatorics. We express $p_n(x)$ as a \emph{path integral} in the ``phase space'' $\Space{N}{} \times {[-π,π]}$. The Hamiltonian is $h(ϕ)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty p_n'(0)/n! e^{inϕ}$ and it produces a Schrödinger type equation for $p_n(x)$. This establishes a bridge between enumerative combinatorics and quantum field theory. It also provides an algorithm for parallel quantum computations. Keywords: Feynman path integral, umbral calculus, polynomial sequence of binomial type, token, Schrödinger equation, propagator, wave function, cumulants, quantum computation.

Quantum and Classic Brackets

We describe an $p$-mechanical (see funct-an/9405002 and quant-ph/9610016) brackets which generate quantum (commutator) and classic (Poisson) brackets in corresponding representations of the Heisenberg group. We \emph{do not} use any kind of semiclassic approximation or limiting procedures for $\hbar \to 0$. Harmonic oscillator considered within the approach. Keywords: Classic and quantum mechanics, Hamilton and Heisenberg equations, Poisson brackets, commutator, Heisenberg group.

Nilpotent Lie Groups in Clifford Analysis: Five Directions for Research

The aim of the paper is to popularise nilpotent Lie groups (notably the Heisenberg group and alike) in the context of Clifford analysis and related models of mathematical physics. It is argued that these groups are underinvestigated in comparison with other classical branches of analysis. We list five general directions which seem to be promising for further research. Keywords: Clifford analysis, Heisenberg group, nilpotent Lie group, Segal-Bargmann space, Toeplitz operators, singular integral operators, pseudodifferential operators, functional calculus, joint spectrum, quantum mechanics, spinor field.

Umbral Calculus and Cancellative Semigroup Algebras

We describe some connections between three different fields: combinatorics (umbral calculus), functional analysis (linear functionals and operators) and harmonic analysis (convolutions on group-like structures). Systematic usage of cancellative semigroup, their convolution algebras, and tokens between them provides a common language for description of objects from these three fields. Keywords: cancellative semigroups, umbral calculus, harmonic analysis, token, convolution algebra, integral transform

Wavelets in Banach Spaces

We describe a construction of wavelets (coherent states) in Banach spaces generated by ``admissible'' group representations. Our main targets are applications in pure mathematics while connections with quantum mechanics are mentioned. As an example we consider operator valued Segal-Bargmann type spaces and the Weyl functional calculus. Keywords: Wavelets, coherent states, Banach spaces, group representations, covariant, contravariant (Wick) symbols, Heisenberg group, Segal-Bargmann spaces, Weyl functional calculus (quantization), second quantization, bosonic field.

Harmonic Analysis and Localization Technique

We study relationships between different formulations of the local principle. Also we establish a connection among the local principle and the non-commutative Fourier transform approach to the investigation of convolution operator algebras. Keywords: Sectional Representations, Local Principle, Fourier Transform, Convolution Algebras.

Two Approaches to Non-Commutative Geometry

Looking to the history of mathematics one could find out two outer approaches to Geometry. First one (algebraic) is due to Descartes and second one (group-theoretic)--to Klein. We will see that they are not rivalling but are tied (by Galois). We also examine their modern life as philosophies of non-commutative geometry. Connections between different objects (see keywords) are discussed. Keywords: Heisenberg group, Weyl commutation relation, Manin plain, quantum groups, SL(2, R), Hardy space, Bergman space, Segal-Bargmann space, Szeg"o projection, Bergman projection, Clifford analysis, Cauchy-Riemann-Dirac operator, Moebius transformations, functional calculus, Weyl calculus (quantization), Berezin quantization, Wick ordering, quantum mechanics.

Analysis in $R^{1,1}$ or the Principal Function Theory

We explore a function theory connected with the principal series representation of SL(2,R) in contrast to standard complex analysis connected with the discrete series. We construct counterparts for the Cauchy integral formula, the Hardy space, the Cauchy-Riemann equation and the Taylor expansion. Keywords: Complex analysis, Cauchy integral formula, Hardy space, Taylor expansion, Cauchy-Riemann equations, Dirac operator, group representations, SL(2,R), discrete series, principal series, wavelet transform, coherent states.

Mixing Quantum and Classical Mechanics

Using a group theoretical approach we derive an equation of motion for a mixed quantum-classical system. The quantum-classical bracket entering the equation preserves the Lie algebra structure of quantum and classical mechanics: The bracket is antisymmetric and satisfies the Jacobi identity, and, therefore, leads to a natural description of interaction between quantum and classical degrees of freedom. We apply the formalism to coupled quantum and classical oscillators and show how various approximations, such as the mean-field and the multiconfiguration mean-field approaches, can be obtained from the quantum-classical equation of motion.

Relativistic Quantization and Improved Equation for a Free Relativistic Particle

Usually the only difference between relativistic quantization and standard one is that the Lagrangian of the system under consideration should be Lorentz invariant. The standard approaches are logically incomplete and produce solutions with unpleasant properties: negative-energy, superluminal propagation etc. We propose a two-projections scheme of (special) relativistic quantization. The first projection defines the quantization procedure (e.g. the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization). The second projection defines a casual structure of the relativistic system (e.g. the operator of multiplication by the characteristic function of the future cone). The two-projections quantization introduces in a natural way the existence of three types of relativistic particles (with $0$, $\frac{1}{2}$, and $1$ spins). Keywords: Quantization, relativity, spin, Dirac equation, Klein-Gordon equation, electron, Segal-Bargmann space, Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. Connection between Different Function Theories in Clifford Analysis

We describe an explicit connection between solutions to equations $Df=0$ (the Generalized Cauchy-Riemann equation) and $(D+M)f=0$, where operators $D$ and $M$ commute. The described connection allows to construct a ``function theory'' (the Cauchy theorem, the Cauchy integral, the Taylor and Laurent series etc.) for solutions of the second equation from the known function theory for solution of the first (generalized Cauchy-Riemann) equation. As well known, many physical equations related to the orthogonal group of rotations or the Lorentz group (the Dirac equation, the Maxwell equation etc.) can be naturally formulated in terms of the Clifford algebra. For them our approach gives an explicit connection between solutions with zero and non-zero mass (or external fields) and provides with a family of formulas for calculations. \keywords{Dirac equation with mass, Clifford analysis.} \AMSMSC{30G35}{34L40, 81Q05}
