Quantum Geometry of 3-Dimensional Lattices and Tetrahedron Equation

We study geometric consistency relations between angles of 3-dimensional (3D) circular quadrilateral lattices -- lattices whose faces are planar quadrilaterals inscribable into a circle. We show that these relations generate canonical transformations of a remarkable "ultra-local" Poisson bracket algebra defined on discrete 2D surfaces consisting of circular quadrilaterals. Quantization of this structure allowed us to obtain new solutions of the tetrahedron equation (the 3D analog of the Yang-Baxter equation) as well as reproduce all those that were previously known. These solutions generate an infinite number of non-trivial solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation and also define integrable 3D models of statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. The latter can be thought of as describing quantum fluctuations of lattice geometry.

Variational approach to the scaling function of the 2D Ising model in a magnetic field

The universal scaling function of the square lattice Ising model in a magnetic field is obtained numerically via Baxter's variational corner transfer matrix approach. The high precision numerical data is in perfect agreement with the remarkable field theory results obtained by Fonseca and Zamolodchikov, as well as with many previously known exact and numerical results for the 2D Ising model. This includes excellent agreement with analytic results for the magnetic susceptibility obtained by Orrick, Nickel, Guttmann and Perk. In general the high precision of the numerical results underlines the potential and full power of the variational corner transfer matrix approach.

Quantum geometry of 3-dimensional lattices

We show that these relations generate canonical transformations of a remarkable ``ultra-local'' Poisson bracket algebra defined on discrete 2D surfaces consisting of circular quadrilaterals. Quantization of this structure leads to new solutions of the tetrahedron equation (the 3D analog of the Yang-Baxter equation). These solutions generate an infinite number of non-trivial solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation and also define integrable 3D models of statistical mechanics and quantum field theory. The latter can be thought of as describing quantum fluctuations of lattice geometry. The classical geometry of the 3D circular lattices arises as a stationary configuration giving the leading contribution to the partition function in the quasi-classical limit.

Exact solution of the Faddeev-Volkov model

The Faddeev-Volkov model is an Ising-type lattice model with positive Boltzmann weights where the spin variables take continuous values on the real line. It serves as a lattice analog of the sinh-Gordon and Liouville models and intimately connected with the modular double of the quantum group U_q(sl_2). The free energy of the model is exactly calculated in the thermodynamic limit. In the quasi-classical limit c->infinity the model describes quantum fluctuations of discrete conformal transformations connected with the Thurston's discrete analogue of the Riemann mappings theorem. In the strongly-coupled limit c->1 the model turns into a discrete version of the D=2 Zamolodchikov's ``fishing-net'' model.

Faddeev-Volkov solution of the Yang-Baxter Equation and Discrete Conformal Symmetry

The Faddeev-Volkov solution of the star-triangle relation is connected with the modular double of the quantum group U_q(sl_2). It defines an Ising-type lattice model with positive Boltzmann weights where the spin variables take continuous values on the real line. The free energy of the model is exactly calculated in the thermodynamic limit. The model describes quantum fluctuations of circle patterns and the associated discrete conformal transformations connected with the Thurston's discrete analogue of the Riemann mappings theorem. In particular, in the quasi-classical limit the model precisely describe the geometry of integrable circle patterns with prescribed intersection angles.

An Analytic Formula for the A_2 Jack Polynomials

In this letter I shall review my joint results with Vadim Kuznetsov and Evgeny Sklyanin [Indag. Math. 14 (2003), 451-482, math.CA/0306242] on separation of variables for the $A_n$ Jack polynomials. This approach originated from the work [RIMS Kokyuroku 919 (1995), 27-34, solv-int/9508002] where the integral representations for the $A_2$ Jack polynomials was derived. Using special polynomial bases I shall obtain a more explicit expression for the $A_2$ Jack polynomials in terms of generalised hypergeometric functions.

Analytic theory of the eight-vertex model

We observe that the exactly solved eight-vertex solid-on-solid model contains an hitherto unnoticed arbitrary field parameter, similar to the horizontal field in the six-vertex model. The parameter is required to describe a continuous spectrum of the unrestricted solid-on-solid model, which has an infinite-dimensional space of states even for a finite lattice. The introduction of the continuous field parameter allows us to completely review the theory of functional relations in the eight-vertex/SOS-model from a uniform analytic point of view. We also present a number of analytic and numerical techniques for the analysis of the Bethe Ansatz equations. It turns out that different solutions of these equations can be obtained from each other by analytic continuation. In particular, for small lattices we explicitly demonstrate that the largest and smallest eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of the eight-vertex model are just different branches of the same multivalued function of the field parameter.

Eight-vertex model and non-stationary Lame equation

We study the ground state eigenvalues of Baxter's Q-operator for the eight-vertex model in a special case when it describes the off-critical deformation of the $Δ=-1/2$ six-vertex model. We show that these eigenvalues satisfy a non-stationary Schrodinger equation with the time-dependent potential given by the Weierstrass elliptic P-function where the modular parameter $τ$ plays the role of (imaginary) time. In the scaling limit the equation transforms into a ``non-stationary Mathieu equation'' for the vacuum eigenvalues of the Q-operators in the finite-volume massive sine-Gordon model at the super-symmetric point, which is closely related to the theory of dilute polymers on a cylinder and the Painleve III equation.

Q-operator and factorised separation chain for Jack polynomials

Applying Baxter's method of the Q-operator to the set of Sekiguchi's commuting partial differential operators we show that Jack polynomials P(x_1,...,x_n) are eigenfunctions of a one-parameter family of integral operators Q_z. The operators Q_z are expressed in terms of the Dirichlet-Liouville n-dimensional beta integral. From a composition of n operators Q_{z_k} we construct an integral operator S_n factorising Jack polynomials into products of hypergeometric polynomials of one variable. The operator S_n admits a factorisation described in terms of restricted Jack polynomials P(x_1,...,x_k,1,...,1). Using the operator Q_z for z=0 we give a simple derivation of a previously known integral representation for Jack polynomials.
