Quantum music, quantum arts and their perception

The expression of human art, and supposedly sentient art in general, is modulated by the available rendition, receiving and communication techniques. The components or instruments of these techniques ultimately exhibit a physical, in particular, quantum layer, which in turn translates into physical and technological capacities to comprehend and utilize what is possible in our universe. In this sense, we can apply a sort of Church-Turing thesis to art, or at least to its rendition.

A Theory of Inertia Based on Mach's Principle

A non-relativistic theory of inertia based on Mach's principle is presented as has been envisaged but not achieved by Ernst Mach in 1872. Central feature is a space-dependent, anisotropic, symmetric inert mass tensor.

Quantum music

We consider ways of conceptualizing, rendering and perceiving quantum music, and quantum art in general. Thereby, we give particular emphasis to its non-classical aspects, such as coherent superposition and entanglement.

Consistent Construction of Perturbation Theory on Noncommutative Spaces

We examine the effect of non-local deformations on the applicability of interaction point time ordered perturbation theory (IPTOPT) based on the free Hamiltonian of local theories. The usual argument for the case of quantum field theory (QFT) on a noncommutative (NC) space (based on the fact that the introduction of star products in bilinear terms does not alter the action) is not applicable to IPTOPT due to several discrepancies compared to the naive path integral approach when noncommutativity involves time. These discrepancies are explained in detail. Besides scalar models, gauge fields are also studied. For both cases, we discuss the free Hamiltonian with respect to non-local deformations.

Towards UV Finite Quantum Field Theories from Non-Local Field Operators

A non-local toy model whose interaction consists of smeared, non-local field operators is presented. We work out the Feynman rules and propose a power counting formula for arbitrary graphs. Explicit calculations for one loop graphs show that their contribution is finite for sufficient smearing and agree with the power counting formula. UV/IR mixing does not occur.

A Tip of the TOE

Using standard methods from string theory, this paper presents a comprehensive survey about the most important aspects of the theory of sand. Special interest is put on the examination of the sand-wind duality and the interaction of ordinary (non-supersymmetric) sand with the heat field of the earth, as solution of the field inequalities of a stone. This will lead us, in a natural way, to completely new insights into the theory of sandstorms.

Quantum electrodynamics in the squeezed vacuum state: Electron mass shift

Due to the nonvanishing average photon population of the squeezed vacuum state, finite corrections to the scattering matrix are obtained. The lowest order contribution to the electron mass shift for a one mode squeezed vacuum state is given by $δm(Ω, s)/m=α(2/π)(Ω/m)^2\sinh^2(s)$, where $Ω$ and $s$ stand for the mode frequency and the squeeze parameter and $α$ for the fine structure constant, respectively.
