Resolving the problem of complex sound velocity in binary Bose mixtures with attractive intercomponent interactions

In 2015 Dmitry Petrov theoretically suggested that, in a binary mixture of bosons a quantum liquid droplet may arise due to the competition between attractive intercomponent and repulsive intracomponent forces. Although this prediction has been confirmed experimentally, the model by itself suffers from a serious conceptual problem: The low - lying excitation spectrum manifests a purely imaginary phonon velocity, $c_d^2 < 0$. In the present work, we develop a self consistent theory of two-component Bose systems with attractive interspecies interactions, which accurately takes into account pair correlations in terms of anomalous and mixed densities. We have shown that this procedure is able to resolve the problem of $c_d^2 < 0$. Limiting ourselves with a symmetric Bose mixture at zero temperature, we have found a region of stability in which a droplet can survive.

Self-consistent theory of a homogeneous binary Bose mixture with strong repulsive interspecies interaction

Multicomponent quantum gases are ideal platforms to study fundamental phenomena arising from the mutual interaction between different constituents. Particularly, due to the repulsive interactions between two species, the system may exhibit a phase separation. We develop a mean-field-based theory for a two-component Bose mixture, which is equivalent to the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation, and derive analytical expressions for the phase boundary and miscibility. The majority of existing theories, which are valid only for weakly interacting Bose gases, predict that the phase boundary is determined by the criterion $g_{ab}\leqslant\sqrt{g_{aa} g_{bb}}$ (where $g_{ab}$ is a coupling constant between the components $a$ and $b$). We show that in the Bose-Einstein-condensation phase ($T\leqslant T_c$) the system may remain in a stable and miscible phase also for larger values of $g_{ab}$, depending on the gas parameter $γ$ and temperature.

Self-Similarly Corrected Pade Approximants for the Indeterminate Problem

A method is suggested for treating the well-known deficiency in the use of Pade approximants that are well suited for approximating rational functions, but confront problems in approximating irrational functions. We develop the approach of self-similarly corrected Pade approximants, making it possible to essentially increase the class of functions treated by these approximants. The method works well even in those cases, where the standard Pade approximants are not applicable, resulting in divergent sequences. Numerical convergence of our method is demonstrated by several physical examples.

Hilbert-space localization in closed quantum systems

Quantum localization within an energy-shell of a closed quantum system stands in contrast to the ergodic assumption of Boltzmann, and to the corresponding eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. The familiar case is the real-space "Anderson localization" and its many-body Fock-space version. We use the term "Hilbert-space localization" in order to emphasize the more general phase-space context. Specifically, we introduce a unifying picture that extends the semiclassical perspective of Heller, which relates the localization measure to the probability of return. We illustrate our approach by considering several systems of experimental interest, referring in particular to the Bosonic Josephson tunneling junction. We explore the dependence of the localization measure on the initial state, and on the strength of the many-body interactions using a novel recursive projection method.
