Landau-Ginzburg-Saito theory for descendant Gromov-Witten theory on projective line

We define the correlation functions for the descendants in the Landau-Ginzburg-Saito theory. We show that the correlation functions obey puncture, divisor, dilaton, and topological recursion relations. We formulate the map between the descendant observables in the GW theory on the projective line and the descendant observables in the mirror LGS theory. We prove that the LGS correlation functions of the mirror observables are equal to the GW invariants with descendants.

Chern-Gauss-Bonnet theorem via BV localization

We present a new proof for the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We represent the Euler class integral as the partition function for zero-dimensional field theory with on-shell supersymmetry. We rewrite the supersymmetric partition function as a BV integral and deform the Lagrangian submanifold. The new Lagrangian submanifold localizes the BV integral to the critical points of the Morse function.

BV-refinement of the on-shell supersymmetry and localization

We generalize the BV formalism for the physical theories on supermanifolds with graded symmetry algebras realized off-shell and on-shell. An application of such generalization to supersymmetric theories allows us to formulate the new classification which refines the usual off-shell/on-shell classification. Our new classification is based on the type of higher order antifield terms in the corresponding BV action. We provide explicit examples for each class of the refined classification. We show that the supersymmetric localization for the off-shell theories is a BV integral over particular Lagrangian submanifold. We generalize the supersymmetric localization to the on-shell supersymmetric theories of quadratic type in our classification. The partition function for such theories becomes Gaussian integral for a particular choice of Lagrangian submanifold.

Tropical mirror for toric surfaces

We describe the tropical mirror for complex toric surfaces. In particular we provide an explicit expression for the mirror states and show that they can be written in enumerative form. Their holomorphic germs give an explicit form of good section for Landau-Ginzburg-Saito theory. We use an explicit form of holomorphic germs to derive the divisor relation for tropical Gromov-Witten invariants. We interpret the deformation of the theory by a point observable as a blow up of a point on the toric surface. We describe the implication of such interpretation for the tropical Gromov-Witten invariants.

Tropical Mirror Symmetry: Correlation functions

We formulate the mirror symmetry for correlation functions of tropical observables. We prove the tropical mirror correspondence for correlation functions of evaluation observables on toric space. The key point of the proof is the localization of correlation functions for mirror states in type-B higher topological quantum mechanics on trees. The correlation functions localize to the correlation functions of holomorphic functions, defined recursively in Landau-Ginzburg-Saito theory with exponential mirror superpotential and tropical good section.

Bulk locality and gauge invariance for boundary-bilocal cubic correlators in higher-spin gravity

We consider type-A higher-spin gravity in 4 dimensions, holographically dual to a free O(N) vector model. In this theory, the cubic correlators of higher-spin boundary currents are reproduced in the bulk by the Sleight-Taronna cubic vertex. We extend these cubic correlators from local boundary currents to bilocal boundary operators, which contain the tower of local currents in their Taylor expansion. In the bulk, these boundary bilocals are represented by linearized Didenko-Vasiliev (DV) "black holes". We argue that the cubic correlators are still described by local bulk structures, which include a new vertex coupling two higher-spin fields to the "worldline" of a DV solution. As an illustration of the general argument, we analyze numerically the correlator of two local scalars and one bilocal. We also prove a gauge-invariance property of the Sleight-Taronna vertex outside its original range of applicability: in the absence of sources, it is invariant not just within tranverse-traceless gauge, but rather in general traceless gauge, which in particular includes the DV solution away from its "worldline".

Higher-spin gravity's "string": new gauge and proof of holographic duality for the linearized Didenko-Vasiliev solution

We consider type-A higher-spin gravity in AdS_4, holographically dual to a free U(N) vector model on the boundary. We study the linearized version of the Didenko-Vasiliev "BPS black hole", which we view as this theory's equivalent of the fundamental string. The Didenko-Vasiliev solution consists of gauge fields of all spins generated by a particle-like source along a bulk geodesic, and is holographically dual to a bilocal boundary operator at the geodesic's endpoints. Our first main result is a new gauge for this solution, which makes manifest its behavior under the boundary field equation. It can be viewed as an AdS uplift of flat spacetime's de Donder gauge, but is not de Donder in AdS. To our knowledge, this gauge is novel even in the spin-2 sector, and thus provides a new expression for the linearized gravitational field of a massive point particle in (A)dS_4. Our second main result is a proof of the holographic duality between the mutual bulk action of two Didenko-Vasiliev solutions and the CFT correlator of two boundary bilocals. As an intermediate step, we show that in a bilocal->local limit, the Didenko-Vasiliev solution reproduces the standard boundary-bulk propagators of all spins. We work in the "metric-like" language of Fronsdal fields, and use the embedding-space formalism.

Tropical Mirror

We describe the tropical curves in toric varieties and define the tropical Gromov-Witten invariants. We introduce amplitudes for the higher topological quantum mechanics (HTQM) on special trees and show that the amplitudes are equal to the tropical Gromov-Witten invariants. We show that the sum over the amplitudes in $A$-model HTQM equals the total amplitude in B-model HTQM, defined as a deformation of the $A$-model HTQM by the mirror superpotential. We derived the mirror superpotentials for the toric varieties and showed that they coincide with the superpotentials in the mirror Landau-Ginzburg theory. We construct the mirror dual states to the evaluation observables in the tropical Gromov-Witten theory.

A microscopic derivation of the quantum measurement postulates

In the mid-19th century, both the laws of mechanics and thermodynamics were known, and both appeared fundamental. This was changed by Boltzmann and Gibbs, who showed that thermodynamics can be *derived*, by applying mechanics to very large systems, and making simple statistical assumptions about their behavior. Similarly, when Quantum Mechanics (QM) was first discovered, it appeared to require two sets of postulates: one about the deterministic evolution of wavefunctions, and another about the probabilistic measurement process. Here again, the latter is derivable from the former: by applying unitary evolution to large systems (apparatuses, observers and environment), and making simple assumptions about their behavior, one can derive all the features of quantum measurement. We set out to demonstrate this claim, using a simple and explicit model of a quantum experiment, which we hope will be clear and compelling to the average physicist.

Phase Space on a Surface with Boundary via Symplectic Reduction

We describe the symplectic reduction construction for the physical phase space in gauge theory and apply it for the BF theory. Symplectic reduction theorem allows us to rewrite the same phase space as a quotient by the gauge group action, what matches with the covariant phase space formalism. We extend the symplectic reduction method to describe the phase space of the initial data on a slice with boundary. We show that the invariant phase space has description in terms of generalized de Rham cohomology, what makes the topological properties of BF theory manifest. The symplectic reduction can be done in multiple steps using different decompositions of the gauge group with interesting finite-dimensional intermediate symplectic spaces.

Dual Fluid for the Kerr Black Hole

Rotating black holes are algebraically special solutions to the vacuum Einstein equation. Using properties of the algebraically special solutions we construct the dual fluid, which flows on black hole horizon. An explicit form of the Kerr solution allows us to write an explicit dual fluid solution and investigate its stability using energy balance equation. We show that the dual fluid is stable because of high algebraic speciality of the Kerr solution.

Asymptotic Fermionic Symmetry From Soft Gravitino Theorem

We discuss the semiclassical scattering problem for massless matter coupled to Rarita-Schwinger field in four dimensional Minkowski space. We rewrite the soft gravitino theorem as a Ward identity for the S-matrix and discuss the relationship of corresponding symmetry charges to new asymptotic fermonic symmetries of massless Rarita-Schwinger field.

BMS supertranslations and Weinberg's soft graviton theorem

Recently it was conjectured that a certain infinite-dimensional "diagonal" subgroup of BMS supertranslations acting on past and future null infinity (${\mathscr I}^-$ and ${\mathscr I}^+$) is an exact symmetry of the quantum gravity ${\cal S}$-matrix, and an associated Ward identity was derived. In this paper we show that this supertranslation Ward identity is precisely equivalent to Weinberg's soft graviton theorem. Along the way we construct the canonical generators of supertranslations at ${\mathscr I}^\pm$, including the relevant soft graviton contributions. Boundary conditions at the past and future of ${\mathscr I}^\pm$ and a correspondingly modified Dirac bracket are required. The soft gravitons enter as boundary modes and are manifestly the Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken supertranslation invariance.

Quasinormal Quantization in deSitter Spacetime

A scalar field in four-dimensional deSitter spacetime (dS_4) has quasinormal modes which are singular on the past horizon of the south pole and decay exponentially towards the future. These are found to lie in two complex highest-weight representations of the dS_4 isometry group SO(4,1). The Klein-Gordon norm cannot be used for quantization of these modes because it diverges. However a modified `R-norm', which involves reflection across the equator of a spatial S^3 slice, is nonsingular. The quasinormal modes are shown to provide a complete orthogonal basis with respect to the R-norm. Adopting the associated R-adjoint effectively transforms SO(4,1) to the symmetry group SO(3,2) of a 2+1-dimensional CFT. It is further shown that the conventional Euclidean vacuum may be defined as the state annihilated by half of the quasinormal modes, and the Euclidean Green function obtained from a simple mode sum. Quasinormal quantization contrasts with some conventional approaches in that it maintains manifest dS-invariance throughout. The results are expected to generalize to other dimensions and spins.

Higher-Dimensional Supertranslations and Weinberg's Soft Graviton Theorem

Asymptotic symmetries of theories with gravity in d=2m+2 spacetime dimensions are reconsidered for m>1 in light of recent results concerning d=4 BMS symmetries. Weinberg's soft graviton theorem in 2m+2 dimensions is re-expressed as a Ward identity for the gravitational S-matrix. The corresponding asymptotic symmetries are identified with 2m+2-dimensional supertranslations. An alternate derivation of these asymptotic symmetries as diffeomorphisms which preserve finite-energy boundary conditions at null infinity and act non-trivially on physical data is given. Our results differ from those of previous analyses whose stronger boundary conditions precluded supertranslations for d>4. We find for all even d that supertranslation symmetry is spontaneously broken in the conventional vacuum and identify soft gravitons as the corresponding Goldstone bosons.

Asymptotic Symmetries of Massless QED in Even Dimensions

We consider the scattering of massless particles coupled to an abelian gauge field in 2n-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. Weinberg's soft photon theorem is recast as Ward identities for infinitely many new nontrivial symmetries of the massless QED S-matrix, with one such identity arising for each propagation direction of the soft photon. These symmetries are identified as large gauge transformations with angle-dependent gauge parameters that are constant along the null generators of null infinity. Almost all of the symmetries are spontaneously broken in the standard vacuum and the soft photons are the corresponding Goldstone bosons. Our result establishes a relationship between soft theorems and asymptotic symmetry groups in any even dimension.

Low's Subleading Soft Theorem as a Symmetry of QED

It was shown by F. Low in the 1950s that the subleading terms of soft photon S-matrix elements obey a universal linear relation. In this paper we give a new interpretation to this old relation, for the case of massless QED, as an infinitesimal symmetry of the S-matrix. The symmetry is shown to be locally generated by a vector field on the conformal sphere at null infinity. Explicit expressions are constructed for the associated charges as integrals over null infinity and shown to generate the symmetry. These charges are local generalizations of electric and magnetic dipole charges.
