Weyl Modules for Classical and Quantum Affine algebras

We define a family of universal finite-dimensional highest weight modules for affine Lie algebras, we call these Weyl modules. We conjecture that these are the classical limits of the irreducible finite--dimensional representations of the quantum affine algebras. We prove this conjecture in the case of affine sl_2. We establish a criterion for these modules to be irreducible and prove a factorization theorem for them in the general case.

Realization of level one representations of $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak g})$ at a root of unity

Using vertex operators, we construct explicitly Lusztig's $\mathbb Z[q, q^{-1}]$-lattice for the level one irreducible representations of quantum affine algebras of ADE type. We then realize the level one irreducible modules at roots of unity and show that the q-dimension is still given by the Weyl-Kac character formula. As a consequence we also answer the corresponding question of realizing the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras of simply laced type at level one in finite characteristic.

Monomial Bases of Quantized Enveloping Algebras

We construct a monomial basis of the positive part of the quantized enveloping algebra associated to a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. As an application we give a simple proof of the existence and uniqueness of the canonical basis of the positive part.

An Algebraic Characterization of the Affine Canonical Basis

The canonical basis for quantized universal enveloping algebras associated to the finite--dimensional simple Lie algebras, was introduced by Lusztig. The principal technique is the explicit construction (via the braid group action) of a lattice over $\bz[q^{-1}]$. This allows the algebraic characterization of the canonical basis as a certain bar-invariant basis of $\cl$. Here we present a similar algebraic characterization of the affine canonical basis. Our construction is complicated by the need to introduce basis elements to span the ``imaginary'' subalgebra which is fixed by the affine braid group. Once the basis is found we construct a PBW-type basis whose $\bz[q^{-1}]$-span reduces to a ``crystal'' basis at $q=\infty,$ with the imaginary component given by the Schur functions.

Quantum Affine Algebras at Roots of Unity

We study the restricted form of the qaunatized enveloping algebra of an untwisted affine Lie algebra and prove a triangular decomposition for it. In proving the decomposition we prove several new identities in the quantized algebra, one of these show a connection between the quantized algebra and Young diagrams. These identities are all invisible in the non-quantum case of the problem which was considered by Garland in 1978. We then study the finite-dimensional irreducible representations and prove a factorization theorem for such representations.
