Limit fluctuations of stationary measure of totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with open boundaries on the coexistence line

We describe limit fluctuations of the height function for the open TASEP on the coexistence line under the stationary measure. It is known that the height function satisfies a law of large numbers as the number of sites $n$ goes to infinity which at the coexistence line is exotic in the sense that the first-order limit is random. Here, we study the functional central limit theorem: we show that with a random centering and normalized by $\sqrt n$, the second-order limit of the height functions is a (random) mixture of two independent Brownian motions.

Flows in near algebras with applications to harnesses

We introduce one-way flows in near algebras and two-way flows in double near algebras with two interrelated multiplications. We establish parametric representations of the one-way and two-way flows in terms of a single element of the algebra that we call a flow generator. We indicate probabilistic applications of the one-way flows to a study of polynomial stochastic processes. We apply our results on the two-way flows to harnesses and quadratic harnesses in probability theory, generalizing some previous results.

Fluctuations of random Motzkin paths

It is known that after scaling a random Motzkin path converges to a Brownian excursion. We prove that the fluctuations of the counting processes of the ascent steps, the descent steps and the level steps converge jointly to linear combinations of two independent processes: a Brownian motion and a Brownian excursion. The proofs rely on the Laplace transforms and an integral representation based on an identity connecting non-crossing pair partitions and joint moments of an explicit non-homogeneous Markov process.

Limit fluctuations for density of asymmetric simple exclusion processes with open boundaries

We investigate the fluctuations of cumulative density of particles in the asymmetric simple exclusion process with respect to the stationary distribution (also known as the steady state), as a stochastic process indexed by $[0,1]$. In three phases of the model and their boundaries within the fan region, we establish a complete picture of the scaling limits of the fluctuations of the density as the number of sites goes to infinity. In the maximal current phase, the limit fluctuation is the sum of two independent processes, a Brownian motion and a Brownian excursion. This extends an earlier result by Derrida et al. (2004) for totally asymmetric simple exclusion process in the same phase. In the low/high density phases, the limit fluctuations are Brownian motion. Most interestingly, at the boundary of the maximal current phase, the limit fluctuation is the sum of two independent processes, a Brownian motion and a Brownian meander (or a time-reversal of the latter, depending on the side of the boundary). Our proofs rely on a representation of the joint generating function of the asymmetric simple exclusion process with respect to the stationary distribution in terms of joint moments of a Markov processes, which is constructed from orthogonality measures of the Askey--Wilson polynomials.

Dual representations of Laplace transforms of Brownian excursion and generalized meanders

The Laplace transform of the $d$-dimensional distribution of Brownian excursion is expressed as the Laplace transform of the $(d+1)$-dimensional distribution of an auxiliary Markov process, started from a $σ$-finite measure and with the roles of arguments and times interchanged. A similar identity holds for the Laplace transform of a generalized meander, which is expressed as the Laplace transform of the same auxiliary Markov process, with a different initial law.

The local structure of $q$-Gaussian processes

The local structure of $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes and $q$-Brownian motions are investigated, for all $q\in(-1,1)$. These are the classical Markov processes corresponding to the noncommutative $q$-Gaussian processes. These processes have discontinuous sample paths, and the local small jumps are characterized by tangent processes. It is shown that for all $q\in(-1,1)$, the tangent processes at inner domain are scaled Cauchy processes possibly with drifts, and the tangent processes at the boundary of the domain are related to the free $1/2$-stable law via Biane's construction.

The bi-Poisson process: a quadratic harness

This paper is a continuation of our previous research on quadratic harnesses, that is, processes with linear regressions and quadratic conditional variances. Our main result is a construction of a Markov process from given orthogonal and martingale polynomials. The construction uses a two-parameter extension of the Al-Salam--Chihara polynomials and a relation between these polynomials for different values of parameters.

Spectral measure of large random Hankel, Markov and Toeplitz matrices

We study the limiting spectral measure of large symmetric random matrices of linear algebraic structure. For Hankel and Toeplitz matrices generated by i.i.d. random variables $\{X_k\}$ of unit variance, and for symmetric Markov matrices generated by i.i.d. random variables $\{X_{ij}\}_{j>i}$ of zero mean and unit variance, scaling the eigenvalues by $\sqrt{n}$ we prove the almost sure, weak convergence of the spectral measures to universal, nonrandom, symmetric distributions $γ_H$, $γ_M$ and $γ_T$ of unbounded support. The moments of $γ_H$ and $γ_T$ are the sum of volumes of solids related to Eulerian numbers, whereas $γ_M$ has a bounded smooth density given by the free convolution of the semicircle and normal densities. For symmetric Markov matrices generated by i.i.d. random variables $\{X_{ij}\}_{j>i}$ of mean $m$ and finite variance, scaling the eigenvalues by ${n}$ we prove the almost sure, weak convergence of the spectral measures to the atomic measure at $-m$. If $m=0$, and the fourth moment is finite, we prove that the spectral norm of $\mathbf {M}_n$ scaled by $\sqrt{2n\log n}$ converges almost surely to 1.
