Regularization of p-adic String Amplitudes, and Multivariate Local Zeta Functions

We prove that the p-adic Koba-Nielsen type string amplitudes are bona fide integrals. We attach to these amplitudes Igusa-type integrals depending on several complex parameters and show that these integrals admit meromorphic continuations as rational functions. Then we use these functions to regularize the Koba-Nielsen amplitudes. As far as we know, there is no a similar result for the Archimedean Koba-Nielsen amplitudes. We also discuss the existence of divergencies and the connections with multivariate Igusa's local zeta functions.

Acausal quantum theory for non-Archimedean scalar fields

We construct a family of quantum scalar fields over a $p-$adic spacetime which satisfy $p-$adic analogues of the Gårding--Wightman axioms. Most of the axioms can be formulated the same way in both, the Archimedean and non-Archimedean frameworks; however, the axioms depending on the ordering of the background field must be reformulated, reflecting the acausality of $p-$adic spacetime. The $p-$adic scalar fields satisfy certain $p-$adic Klein-Gordon pseudo-differential equations. The second quantization of the solutions of these Klein-Gordon equations corresponds exactly to the scalar fields introduced here.

Construction of p-adic Covariant Quantum Fields in the Framework of White Noise Analysis

In this article we construct a large class of interacting Euclidean quantum field theories, over a p-adic space time, by using white noise calculus. We introduce p-adic versions of the Kondratiev and Hida spaces in order to use the Wick calculus on the Kondratiev spaces. The quantum fields introduced here fulfill all the Osterwalder-Schrader axioms, except the reflection positivity.

Non-Archimedean Replicator Dynamics and Eigen's Paradox

We present a new non-Archimedean model of evolutionary dynamics, in which the genomes are represented by p-adic numbers. In this model the genomes have a variable length, not necessarily bounded, in contrast with the classical models where the length is fixed. The time evolution of the concentration of a given genome is controlled by a p-adic evolution equation. This equation depends on a fitness function f and on mutation measure Q. By choosing a mutation measure of Gibbs type, and by using a p-adic version of the Maynard Smith Ansatz, we show the existence of threshold function M_{c}(f,Q), such that the long term survival of a genome requires that its length grows faster than M_{c}(f,Q). This implies that Eigen's paradox does not occur if the complexity of genomes grows at the right pace. About twenty years ago, Scheuring and Poole, Jeffares, Penny proposed a hypothesis to explain Eigen's paradox. Our mathematical model shows that this biological hypothesis is feasible, but it requires p-adic analysis instead of real analysis. More exactly, the Darwin-Eigen cycle proposed by Poole et al. takes place if the length of the genomes exceeds M_{c}(f,Q).

On $p$-adic string amplitudes in the limit $p$ approaches to one

In this article we discuss the limit $p$ approaches to one of tree-level $p$-adic open string amplitudes and its connections with the topological zeta functions. There is empirical evidence that $p$-adic strings are related to the ordinary strings in the $p \to 1$ limit. Previously, we established that $p$-adic Koba-Nielsen string amplitudes are finite sums of multivariate Igusa's local zeta functions, consequently, they are convergent integrals that admit meromorphic continuations as rational functions. The meromorphic continuation of local zeta functions has been used for several authors to regularize parametric Feynman amplitudes in field and string theories. Denef and Loeser established that the limit $p \to 1$ of a Igusa's local zeta function gives rise to an object called topological zeta function. By using Denef-Loeser's theory of topological zeta functions, we show that limit $p \to 1$ of tree-level $p$-adic string amplitudes give rise to certain amplitudes, that we have named Denef-Loeser string amplitudes. Gerasimov and Shatashvili showed that in limit $p \to 1$ the well-known non-local effective Lagrangian (reproducing the tree-level $p$-adic string amplitudes) gives rise to a simple Lagrangian with a logarithmic potential. We show that the Feynman amplitudes of this last Lagrangian are precisely the amplitudes introduced here. Finally, the amplitudes for four and five points are computed explicitly.

Non-Archimedean Reaction-Ultradiffusion Equations and Complex Hierarchic Systems

We initiate the study of non-Archimedean reaction-ultradiffusion equations and their connections with models of complex hierarchic systems. From a mathematical perspective, the equations studied here are the p-adic counterpart of the integro-differential models for phase separation introduced by Bates and Chmaj. Our equations are also generalizations of the ultradiffusion equations on trees studied in the 80's by Ogielski, Stein, Bachas, Huberman, among others, and also generalizations of the master equations of the Avetisov et al. models, which describe certain complex hierarchic systems. From a physical perspective, our equations are gradient flows of non-Archimedean free energy functionals and their solutions describe the macroscopic density profile of a bistable material whose space of states has an ultrametric structure. Some of our results are p-adic analogs of some well-known results in the Archimedean settting, however, the mechanism of diffusion is completely different due to the fact that it occurs in an ultrametric space.

Ultrametric Diffusion, Exponential Landscapes, and the First Passage Time Problem

In this article we study certain ultradiffusion equations connected with energy landscapes of exponential type. These equations are connected with the p-adic models of complex systems introduced by Avetisov et al. We show that the fundamental solutions of these equations are transition density functions of Lévy processes, we also study some aspects of these processes including the first passage time problem.

Non-Archimedean pseudodifferential operators and Feller Semigroups

In this article we study a class of non-Archimedean pseudodifferential operators whose symbols are negative definite functions. We prove that these operators extend to generators of Feller semigroups. In order to study these operators, we introduce a new class of anisotropic Sobolev spaces, which are the natural domains for the operators considered here. We also study the Cauchy problem for certain pseudodifferential equations.

Local Zeta Functions, pseudodifferential operators, and Sobolev-type spaces over non-Archimedean Local Fields

In this article we introduce a new type of local zeta functions and study some connections with pseudodifferential operators in the framework of non-Archimedean fields. The new local zeta functions are defined by integrating complex powers of norms of polynomials multiplied by infinitely pseudo-differentiable functions. In characteristic zero, the new local zeta functions admit meromorphic continuations to the whole complex plane, but they are not rational functions. The real parts of the possible poles have a description similar to the poles of Archimedean zeta functions. But they can be irrational real numbers while in the classical case are rational numbers. We also study, in arbitrary characteristic, certain connections between local zeta functions and the existence of fundamental solutions for pseudodifferential equations.

Local Zeta Functions for Rational Functions and Newton Polyhedra

In this article, we introduce a notion of non-degeneracy, with respect to certain Newton polyhedra, for rational functions over non-Archimedean locals fields of arbitrary characteristic. We study the local zeta functions attached to non-degenerate rational functions, we show the existence of a meromorphic continuation for these zeta functions, as rational functions of $q^{-s}$, and give explicit formulas. In contrast with the classical local zeta functions, the meromorphic continuation of zeta functions for rational functions have poles with positive and negative real parts.

Non-Archimedean White Noise, Pseudodifferential Stochastic Equations, and Massive Euclidean Fields

We construct p-adic Euclidean random fields Φ over Q_{p}^{N}, for arbitrary N, these fields are solutions of p-adic stochastic pseudodifferential equations. From a mathematical perspective, the Euclidean fields are generalized stochastic processes parametrized by functions belonging to a nuclear countably Hilbert space, these spaces are introduced in this article, in addition, the Euclidean fields are invariant under the action of certain group of transformations. We also study the Schwinger functions of Φ.

Heat Traces and Spectral Zeta Functions for p-adic Laplacians

In this article we initiate the study of the heat traces and spectral zeta functions for certain p-adic Laplacians. We show that the heat traces are given by p-adic integrals of Laplace type, and that the spectral zeta functions are p-adic integrals of Igusa-type. We find good estimates for the behaviour of the heat traces when the time tends to infinity, and for the asymptotics of the function counting the eigenvalues less than or equal to a given quantity.

Nonlocal Operators, Parabolic-type Equations, and Ultrametric Random Walks

In this article we introduce a new type of nonlocal operators and study the Cauchy problem for certain parabolic-type pseudodifferential equations naturally associated to these operators. Some of these equations are the p-adic master equations of certain models of complex systems introduced by Avetisov et al. The fundamental solutions of these parabolic-type equations are transition functions of random walks on the n-dimensional vector space over the field of p-adic numbers. We study some properties of these random walks, including the first passage time.

In this article, we introduce a new class of parabolic-type pseudo differential equations with variable coefficients over the p-adics. We establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the Cauchy problem associated with these equations. The fundamental solutions of these equations are connected with Markov processes. Some of these equations are related to new models of complex systems.

Computing Igusa's local zeta functions of univariate polynomials, and linear feedback shift registers

In this paper we present a polynomial time algorithm to compute the local zeta function Z(s,f) attached to a polynomial f(x) in Z[x] (in one variable, with splitting field Q) and a prime p. The algorithm reduces in polynomial time the computation of Z(s,f) to the computation of a factorization of f(x) over Q. This reduction is accomplished by constructing a weighted tree from the p-adic expansion of the roots of f(x) modulo a certain power of p, and then associating a generating function to this tree. The generating function constructed in this way coincides with the local zeta function of f(x). We also propose a new class of candidates for one-way functions based on Igusa's zeta functions attached to polynomials in one variable.
