Zeta functions and oscillatory integrals for meromorphic functions

In the 70's Igusa developed a uniform theory for local zeta functions and oscillatory integrals attached to polynomials with coefficients in a local field of characteristic zero. In the present article this theory is extended to the case of rational functions, or, more generally, meromorphic functions f/g, with coefficients in a local field of characteristic zero. This generalization is far from being straightforward due to the fact that several new geometric phenomena appear. Also, the oscillatory integrals have two different asymptotic expansions: the 'usual' one when the norm of the parameter tends to infinity, and another one when the norm of the parameter tends to zero. The first asymptotic expansion is controlled by the poles (with negative real parts) of all the twisted local zeta functions associated to the meromorphic functions f/g - c, for certain special values c. The second expansion is controlled by the poles (with positive real parts) of all the twisted local zeta functions associated to f/g.

Local Zeta Functions for Non-degenerate Laurent Polynomials Over p-adic Fields

In this article, we study local zeta functions attached to Laurent polynomials over p-adic fields, which are non-degenerate with respect to their Newton polytopes at infinity. As an application we obtain asymptotic expansions for p-adic oscillatory integrals attached to Laurent polynomials. We show the existence of two different asymptotic expansions for p-adic oscillatory integrals, one when the absolute value of the parameter approaches infinity, the other when the absolute value of the parameter approaches zero. These two asymptotic expansions are controlled by the poles of twisted local zeta functions of Igusa type.

Riesz Kernels and Pseudodifferential Operators Attached to Quadratic Forms Over p-adic Fields

We study pseudodifferential equations and Riesz kernels attached to certain quadratic forms over p-adic fields. We attach to an elliptic quadratic form of dimension two or four a family of distributions depending on a complex parameter, the Riesz kernels, and show that these distributions form an Abelian group under convolution. This result implies the existence of fundamental solutions for certain pseudodifferential equations like in the classical case.

Parabolic Type Equations and Markov Stochastic Processes on Adeles

In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for new classes of parabolic type pseudodifferential equations over the rings of finite adeles and adeles. We show that the adelic topology is metrizable and give an explicit metric. We find explicit representations of the fundamental solutions (the heat kernels). These fundamental solutions are transition functions of Markov processes which are adelic analogues of the Archimedean Brownian motion. We show that the Cauchy problems for these equations are well-posed and find explicit representations of the evolution semigroup and formulas for the solutions of homogeneous and non-homogeneous equations.

Pseudo-differential Operators with Semi-Quasielliptic Symbols Over p-adic Fields

In this article, we study pseudo-differential equations involving semi-quasielliptic symbols over p-adics. We determine the function spaces where such equations have solutions. We introduce the space of infinitely pseudo-differentiable functions with respect to a semi-quasielliptic operator. By using these spaces we show the existence of a regularization effect for certain parabolic equations over p-adics.

Poles of Archimedean zeta functions for analytic mappings

In this paper, we give a description of the possible poles of the local zeta function attached to a complex or real analytic mapping in terms of a log-principalization of an ideal associated to the mapping. When the mapping is a non-degenerate one, we give an explicit list for the possible poles of the corresponding local zeta function in terms of the normal vectors to the supporting hyperplanes of a Newton polyhedron attached to the mapping, and some additional vectors (or rays) that appear in the construction of a simplicial conical subdivision of the first orthant. These results extend the corresponding results of Varchenko to the case l\geq1, and K=R or C. In the case l=1 and K=R, Denef and Sargos proved that the candidates poles induced by the extra rays required in the construction of a simplicial conical subdivision can be discarded from the list of candidate poles. We extend the Denef-Sargos result arbitrary l\geq1. This yields in general a much shorter list of candidate poles, that can moreover be read off immediately from the Newton polyhedron.

Exponential Sums and Polynomial Congruences Along p-adic Submanifolds

In this article, we consider the estimation of exponential sums along the points of the reduction mod $p^{m}$ of a $p$-adic analytic submanifold of $ \mathbb{Z}_{p}^{n}$. More precisely, we extend Igusa's stationary phase method to this type of exponential sums. We also study the number of solutions of a polynomial congruence along the points of the reduction mod $% p^{m}$ of a $p$-adic analytic submanifold of $\mathbb{Z}_{p}^{n}$. In addition, we attach a Poincare series to these numbers, and establish its rationality. In this way, we obtain geometric bounds for the number of solutions of the corresponding polynomial congruences.

Motivic Zeta Functions for Curve Singularities

Let X be a complete, geometrically irreducible, singular, algebraic curve defined over a field of characteristic p big enough. Given a local ring O_{P,X} at a rational singular point P of X, we attached a universal zeta function which is a rational function and admits a functional equation if O_{P,X} is Gorenstein. This universal zeta function specializes to other known zeta functions and Poincare series attached to singular points of algebraic curves. In particular, for the local ring attached to a complex analytic function in two variables, our universal zeta function specializes to the generalized Poincare series introduced by Campillo, Delgado and Gusein-Zade.

Elliptic Pseudo-Differential Equations and Sobolev Spaces over p-adic Fields

We study the solutions of equations of type $f(D,α)u=v$, where $f(D,α)$ is a $p$-adic pseudo-differential operator. If $v$ is a Bruhat-Schwartz function, then there exists a distribution $E_α$, a fundamental solution, such that $u=E_α\ast v$ is a solution. However, it is unknown to which function space $E_α\ast v$ belongs. In this paper, we show that if $f(D,α)$ is an elliptic operator, then $u=E_α\ast v$ belongs to a certain Sobolev space. Furthermore, we give conditions for the continuity and uniqueness of $u$. By modifying the Sobolev norm, we can establish that $f(D,α)$ gives an isomorphism between certain Sobolev spaces.

Local Zeta Functions Supported on Analytic Submanifolds and Newton Polyhedra

The local zeta functions (also called Igusa's zeta functions) over p-adic fields are connected with the number of solutions of congruences and exponential sums mod p^{m}. These zeta functions are defined as integrals over open and compact subsets with respect to the Haar measure. In this paper, we introduce new integrals defined over submanifolds, or more generally, over non-degenerate complete intersection varieties, and study their connections with some arithmetical problems such as estimation of exponential sums mod p^{m}. In particular we extend Igusa's method for estimating exponential sums mod p^{m} to the case of exponential sums mod p^{m} along non-degenerate smooth varieties.

Decay of solutions of wave-type pseudo-differential equations over p-adic fields

During the eighties several physical models using p-adic numbers were proposed. Particularly various models of p-adic quantum mechanics. As a consequence of this fact several new mathematical problems emerged, among them, the study of p-adic pseudo-differential equations. In this paper we initiate the study of the decay of the solutions of wave-type pseudo-differential equations over p-adic fields; these equations were introduced by Kochubei in connection with the problem of characterizing the p-adic wave functions using pseudo-differential operators. We show that the solutions of p-adic wave-type equations have a decay similar to the solutions of classical generalized wave equations.

Zeta Functions for Analytic Mappings, Log-principalization of Ideals, and Newton Polyhedra

In this paper we provide a geometric description of the possible poles of the Igusa local zeta function associated to an analytic mapping and a locally constant function, in terms of a log-principalizaton of an ideal naturally attached to the mapping. Typically our new method provides a much shorter list of possible poles compared with the previous methods. We determine the largest real part of the poles of the Igusa zeta function, and then as a corollary, we obtain an asymptotic estimation for the number of solutions of an arbitrary system of polynomial congruences in terms of the log-canonical threshold of the subscheme given by the ideal attached to the mapping. We associate to an analytic mapping a Newton polyhedron and a new notion of non-degeneracy with respect to it. By constructing a log-principalization, we give an explicit list for the possible poles of the Igusa zeta function associated to a non-degenerate mapping.
