The Altered Chaplygin Model as a Model for Dark Energy

We present a scalar-field formulation of the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) and modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) models, in which the cosmic fluid dynamics are reproduced by canonical Lagrangians with analytically derived energy density $ρ(ϕ)$, pressure $p(ϕ)$, and scalar potential $V(ϕ)$. This framework provides a unified description of dark matter and dark energy, transitioning naturally from a matter-dominated phase at early times to a negative-pressure dark-energy phase at late times. In this scalar-field formulation, the GCG and MCG models are naturally applicable to both theoretical analyses and numerical simulations. Extending this approach, we develop a systematic method to obtain a class of integrable scalar-field cosmological models. In this study, we use this method to construct a new scalar-field altered Chaplygin gas (ACG) model. To investigate the viability of Chaplygin-type models, we perform a likelihood analysis using the Pantheon+ Type Ia supernova compilation together with Cepheid-calibrated distances. We examine four models, $Λ$CDM, GCG, MCG, and ACG, obtaining posterior constraints on the Hubble constant $H_0$, the present-day effective equation of state $ω_0$, the transition redshift $z^\star$, and the cosmic age $t_0$. With the Cepheid calibration fixing the absolute distance scale, the inferred $H_{0}$ remains nearly model-independent. The Chaplygin-type models predict an earlier onset of cosmic acceleration than $Λ$CDM and give a broader range for the inferred age of the Universe, reflecting their greater flexibility in late-time expansion histories. Among them, the ACG model provides tighter parameter constraints, while the GCG and MCG models produce broader posteriors due to parameter degeneracies.

A new look at the $SU_2$ gauge monopole

An $SU_2\times U_1$ scalar vector model with a scalar doublet $φ$ is reviewed for the study of possible magnetic monopole solution. An eigenvalue equation $\hat n^a σ^a φ_\pm =\pm φ_\pm$ is shown to induce a set of monopole solutions specified by the unit vector $\hat n$. It is shown clearly that monopole solution has to do with the eigenvalue equation and an unique covariant combination of the non-abelian gauge field. It is also shown that a new set of monopole solutions is presented as a generalization of the monopole solutions known as Cho-Maison monopole. We also show that the EM field and field tensor defined by CM solution is effectively the same as the effective covariant field tensor introduced in this paper. Possible implication is also discussed in the literature.

A gap between two approaches of dimensional reduction for a six-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory

Inspired by the five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory, we would like to study the dimensional reduction issue of six-dimensional Kaluza-Klein extension in this paper. In particular, we will examine two possible approaches of dimensional reduction from six-dimensional spacetimes to four-dimensional ones. The first one is a direct dimensional reduction, i.e., from six-dimensional spacetimes directly to four-dimensional ones, via a $T^2\equiv S^1 \times S^1$ compactification, while the second one is an indirect dimensional reduction, i.e., from six-dimensional spacetimes to five-dimensional ones then four-dimensional ones, via two separated $S^1$ compactifications. Interestingly, we show that these two approaches lead to different four-dimensional effective actions although using the same six-dimensional metric. It could therefore address an important question of which approach is more reliable than the other.

Stability investigations of de Sitter inflationary solutions in power-law extensions of the Starobinsky model

In this paper, we would like to examine whether stable de Sitter inflationary solutions appear within power-law extensions of the Starobinsky model. In particular, we will address general constraints for the existence along with the stability of de Sitter inflationary solutions in a general case involving not only the Starobinsky $R^2$ term but also an additional power-law $R^n$ one. According to the obtained results, we will be able to identify which extension is more suitable for an early inflationary phase rather than a late-time cosmic acceleration phase. To be more specific, we will consider several values of $n$ to see whether the corresponding de Sitter inflationary solutions are stable or not.

Anisotropic power-law inflation for a generalized model of two scalar and two vector fields

Cosmological implication of a generalized model of two scalar and two vector fields, in which both scalar fields are non-minimally coupled to each vector field, is studied in this paper. In particular, we will seek a set of new anisotropic power-law inflationary solutions to this model. Additionally, the stability of the obtained solutions will be examined by using the dynamical system approach. As a result, we will show that this set of solutions turns out to be stable and attractive during the inflationary phase as expected due to the existence of the unusual couplings between two scalar and two vector fields. Notably, we will point out that the existence of phantom field will lead to an instability of the corresponding anisotropic power-law inflation.

Anisotropic power-law inflation for models of non-canonical scalar fields non-minimally coupled to a two-form field

In this paper, we investigate the validity of the so-called cosmic no-hair conjecture in the framework of anisotropic inflation models of non-canonical scalar fields non-minimally coupled to a two-form field. In particular, we focus on two typical {\it k}-inflation and Dirac-Born-Infeld inflation models, in which we find a set of exact anisotropic power-law inflationary solutions. Interestingly, these solutions are shown to be stable and attractive during an inflationary phase using the dynamical system analysis. The obtained results indicate that the non-minimal coupling between the scalar and two-form fields acts as a non-trivial source of generating stable spatial anisotropies during the inflationary phase and therefore violates the prediction of the cosmic no-hair conjecture, even when the scalar field is of non-canonical forms. In connection with the Planck 2018 data, tensor-to-scalar ratios of these anisotropic solutions are investigated. As a result, it appears that the tensor-to-scalar ratio of the anisotropic power-law inflationary solution of {\it k}-inflation model turns out to be more highly consistent with the Planck 2018 data than that of Dirac-Born-Infeld model.

Anisotropic hyperbolic inflation for a model of two scalar and two vector fields

In this paper, we extend a recent proposed model of two scalar and two vector fields to a hyperbolic inflation scenario, in which the field space of two scalar fields is a hyperbolic space instead of a flat space. In this model, one of the scalar fields is assumed to be a radial field, while the other is set as an angular field. Furthermore, both scalar fields will be coupled to two different vector fields, respectively. As a result, we are able to obtain a set of exact Bianchi type I solutions to this model. Stability analysis is also performed to show that this set of anisotropic solutions is indeed stable and attractive during the inflationary phase. This result indicates that the cosmic no-hair conjecture is extensively violated in this anisotropic hyperbolic inflation model.

Anisotropic power-law inflation for a model of two scalar and two vector fields

Inspired by an interesting counterexample to the cosmic no-hair conjecture found in a supergravity-motivated model recently, we propose a multi-field extension, in which two scalar fields are allowed to non-minimally couple to two vector fields, respectively. This model is shown to admit an exact Bianchi type I power-law solution. Furthermore, stability analysis based on the dynamical system method is performed to show that this anisotropic solution is indeed stable and attractive if both scalar fields are canonical. Nevertheless, if one of the two scalar fields is phantom then the corresponding anisotropic power-law inflation turns unstable as expected.

CMB imprints of non-canonical anisotropic inflation

Effect of non-canonical scalar fields on the CMB imprints of the anisotropic inflation will be discussed in details in this paper. In particular, we are able to obtain the general formalism of the angular power spectra in the scalar perturbations, tensor perturbations, cross-correlations, and linear polarization in the context of the anisotropic inflation model involving non-canonical scalar fields. Furthermore, some significant numerical spectra will be plotted using the most recent data of Planck as well as the BICEP2 and Keck array. As a result, we find a very interesting point that the $TT$ spectra induced by the tensor perturbations as well as by the linear polarization will increase when the speed of sound decreases.

Anisotropic power-law inflation for a conformal-violating Maxwell model

A set of power-law solutions of a conformal-violating Maxwell model with a non-standard scalar-vector coupling will be shown in this paper. In particular, we are interested in a coupling term of the form $X^{2n} F^{μν}F_{μν}$ with $X$ denoting the kinetic term of the scalar field. Stability analysis indicates that the new set of anisotropic power-law solutions is unstable during the inflationary phase. The result is consistent with the cosmic no-hair conjecture. We show, however, that a set of stable slowly expanding solutions does exist for a small range of parameters $λ$ and $n$. Hence a small anisotropy can survive during the slowly expanding phase.

Equation of State of Neutron Stars with Junction Conditions in the Starobinsky Model

We study the Starobinsky or $R^2$ model of $f(R)=R+αR^2$ for neutron stars with the structure equations represented by the coupled differential equations and the \emph{polytropic} type of the matter equation of state. The junction conditions of $f(R)$ gravity are used as the boundary conditions to match the Schwarschild solution at the surface of the star. Based on these the conditions, we demonstrate that the coupled differential equations can be solved \emph{directly}. In particular, from the dimensionless equation of state $\barρ = \bar{k}\, \bar{p}^{\,γ}$ with $\bar{k}\sim5.0$ and $γ\sim0.75$ and the constraint of $α\lesssim {1.47722}\times 10^{7}\, \text{m}^2$, we obtain the \emph{minimal} mass of the NS to be around 1.44 $M_{\odot}$. In addition, if $\bar{k}$ is larger than 5.0, the mass and radius of the NS would be smaller.

Large-scale magnetic fields from inflation due to a $CPT$-even Chern-Simons-like term with Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields

We investigate the generation of large-scale magnetic fields due to the breaking of the conformal invariance in the electromagnetic field through the $CPT$-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like effective interaction with a fermion current by taking account of the dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields in inflationary cosmology. It is explicitly demonstrated that the magnetic fields on 1Mpc scale with the field strength of $\sim 10^{-9}$G at the present time can be induced.

Kaluza-Klein Higher Derivative Induced Gravity

The existence and stability analysis of an inflationary solution in a $D+4$-dimensional anisotropic induced gravity is presented in this paper. Nontrivial conditions in the field equations are shown to be compatible with a cosmological model in which the 4-dimension external space evolves inflationary, while, the D-dimension internal one is static. In particular, only two additional constraints on the coupling constants are derived from the abundant field equations and perturbation equations. In addition, a compact formula for the non-redundant 4+D dimensional Friedmann equation is also derived for convenience. Possible implications are also discussed in this paper.

Inflaton in anisotropic higher derivative gravity

Existence and stability analysis of the Kantowski-Sachs type inflationary universe in a higher derivative scalar-tensor gravity theory is studied in details. Isotropic de Sitter background solution is shown to be stable against any anisotropic perturbation during the inflationary era. Stability of the de Sitter space in the post inflationary era can also be realized with proper choice of coupling constants.

Anisotropic induced gravity and inflationary universe

Existence and stability analysis of the Kantowski-Sachs type universe in a higher derivative induced gravity theory is studied in details. Existence of one stable mode and one unstable mode is shown to be in favor of the inflationary universe. As a result, the de Sitter background can be made to be stable against anisotropic perturbations with proper constraints imposed on the coupling constants of the induced gravity model.

Parametrization of the equation of state and the expanding universe

The structure of the equation of state $ω$ could be very complicate in nature while a few linear models have been successful in cosmological predictions. Linear models are treated as leading approximation of a complete Taylor series in this paper. If the power series converges quickly, one can freely truncate the series order by order. Detailed convergent analysis on the choices of the expansion parameters is presented in this paper. The related power series for the energy density function, the Hubble parameter and related physical quantities of interest are also computed in this paper.

Mass distribution of highly flattened galaxies and modified Newtonian dynamics

Dynamics of spiral galaxies derived from a given surface mass density has been derived earlier in a classic paper. We try to transform the singular elliptic function in the integral into a compact integral with regular elliptic function. Solvable models are also considered as expansion basis for RC data. The result makes corresponding numerical evaluations easier and analytic analysis possible. It is applied to the study of the dynamics of Newtonian system and MOND as well. Careful treatment is shown to be important in dealing with the cut-off of the input data.
