About carrier's self-trapping and dynamical Rashba splitting in the two-dimensional hybrid perovskite (BA)$_2$(MA)$_2$Pb$_3$I$_{10}$

Time- and Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy (tr-ARPES) is employed to monitor photoexcited electrons in the two-dimensional hybrid perovskite (BA)$_2$(MA)$_2$Pb$_3$I$_{10}$. Photoelectron intensity maps are in good agreement with ab-initio calculations of the band structure. The effective mass is $-0.18 \pm 0.02 m_e$ and $0.12 \pm 0.02 m_e$ for holes and electrons, respectively. In the photoexcited state, spin-orbit splitting of the conduction band cannot be resolved. This sets the upper bound of photoinduced Rashba coupling to $\alpha_C<2.5$ eV\AA. The correlated electron-hole plasma evolves in Wannier excitons with Bohr radius of 2.8 nm, while no sign of self-trapping in small polarons is found within the investigated time window of up to 120 ps following photoexcitation.

Generalized Weak Galerkin Methods For Stokes Equations

A new weak Galerkin finite element method, called generalized weak Galerkin method ({g}WG), is introduced for Stokes equations in this paper by using a new definition of the weak gradient. Error estimates in energy norm and $L^2$ norm for the velocity and $L^2$ norm for the pressure are derived for elements with arbitrary combination of polynomials. Some numerical examples are presented to verify the effectiveness, theoretical convergence orders, and robustness of the proposed scheme.

Highly cooperative stress relaxation in two-dimensional soft colloidal crystals

Stress relaxation in crystalline solids is mediated by the formation and diffusion of defects. While it is well established how externally-generated stresses relax, through the proliferation and motion of dislocations in the lattice, it remains relatively unknown how crystals cope with internal stresses. We investigate, both experimentally and in simulations, how highly localized stresses relax in two-dimensional soft colloidal crystals. When a single particle is actively excited, by means of optical tweezing, a rich variety of highly collective stress relaxation mechanisms results. These manifest in the form of open strings of cooperatively moving particles through the motion of dissociated vacancy-interstitial pairs, and closed loops of mobile particles, which either result from cooperative rotations in transiently generated circular grain boundaries or through the closure of an open string by annihilation of a vacancy-interstitial pair. Surprisingly, we find that the same collective events occur in crystals which are excited by thermal fluctuations alone; a large thermal agitation inside the crystal lattice can trigger the irreversible displacements of hundreds of particles. Our results illustrate how local stresses can induce large scale cooperative dynamics in two-dimensional soft colloidal crystals and shed new light on the stabilisation mechanisms in ultrasoft crystals.

Re-visiting Direct $J/ψ$ Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We re-analyze the direct $\jp$ production processes at the Fermilab Tevatron in view of the recent observation at the B-factories, where both $\jp$ inclusive and exclusive production rates are found to be about an order of magnitude larger than the leading order estimates of non-relativistic QCD. The charm quark fragmentation to $\jp$, which is the dominant color-singlet process at high $p_T$, is normalized by the B-factory measurements. The process receives further enhancement due to the charm sea contribution which has so far been ignored in most analyses. After summing up all sub-process contributions, we find that the color-singlet mechanism alone can account for 20% to 90% of the observed direct $\jp$ high $p_T$ production. The polarization rate of the directly produced $\jp$ is sensitive to the fraction of the color-octet contribution, which is employed to fill the gap between the color-singlet prediction and experimental data. With a bigger $K$-factor for the charm quark fragmentation probability, we envisage a smaller matrix element for the color-octet $^3S_1^{(8)}$ state, and this can be examined at the LHC in near future.

On the Application of Gluon to Heavy Quarkonium Fragmentation Functions

We analyze the uncertainties induced by different definitions of the momentum fraction $z$ in the application of gluon to heavy quarkonium fragmentation function. We numerically calculate the initial $g \to J / ψ$ fragmentation functions by using the non-covariant definitions of $z$ with finite gluon momentum and find that these fragmentation functions have strong dependence on the gluon momentum $\vec{k}$. As $| \vec{k} | \to \infty$, these fragmentation functions approach to the fragmentation function in the light-cone definition. Our numerical results show that large uncertainties remains while the non-covariant definitions of $z$ are employed in the application of the fragmentation functions. We present for the first time the polarized gluon to $J/ψ$ fragmentation functions, which are fitted by the scheme exploited in this work.
