Dynamics of dinuclear system formation and its decay in heavy ion collisions

A variety of phenomena connected with the formation of a dinuclear complex is observed in the heavy ion collisions at low energies. The dinuclear system model allows us to analyze the experimental data and to interpret them by comparison of the partial capture, fusion and evaporation residue cross sections measured for the different reactions leading to the same compound nucleus. The comparison of theoretical and experimental values of the mass and angular distributions of the reaction products gives us a detailed information about reaction mechanism forming the observed yields. The observed very small cross sections of the evaporation residues may be explained by the strong fusion hindrance and/or instability of the heated and rotating compound nucleus and smallness of its survival probability. The fusion hindrance arises due to competition between complete fusion and quasifission while the smallness of survival probability is connected with the decrease of the fission barrier at large excitation energy and angular momentum of compound nucleus.

Peculiarities of sub-barrier fusion with quantum diffusion approach

With the quantum diffusion approach the unexpected behavior of fusion cross section, angular momentum, and astrophysical S-factor at sub-barrier energies has been revealed. Out of the region of short-range nuclear interaction and action of friction at turning point the decrease rate of the cross section under the barrier becomes smaller. The calculated results for the reactions with spherical nuclei are in a good agreement with the existing experimental data.

Multiple reflection-asymmetric type band structures in $^{220}Th$ and dinuclear model

The negative parity bands in $^{220}$Th are analyzed within the dinuclear system model which was previously used for describing the alternating-parity bands in deformed actinides. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the motion of nuclear system in the mass-asymmetry coordinate. To describe the reflection-asymmetric collective modes characterized by nonzero values of $K$, the intrinsic excitations of clusters are taken into account. The angular momentum dependence of the parity splitting and the staggering behavior of the $B(E1)/B(E2)$ ratios as functions of angular momentum are explained.

Quasifission and fusion-fission in massive nuclei reactions. Comparison of reactions leading to the Z=120 element

The yields of evaporation residues, fusion-fission and quasifission fragments in the $^{48}$Ca+$^{144,154}$Sm and $^{16}$O+$^{186}$W reactions are analyzed in the framework of the combined theoretical method based on the dinuclear system concept and advanced statistical model. The measured yields of evaporation residues for the $^{48}$Ca+$^{154}$Sm reaction can be well reproduced. The measured yields of fission fragments are decomposed into contributions coming from fusion-fission, quasifission, and fast-fission. The decrease in the measured yield of quasifission fragments in $^{48}$Ca+$^{154}$Sm at the large collision energies and the lack of quasifission fragments in the $^{48}$Ca+$^{144}$Sm reaction are explained by the overlap in mass-angle distributions of the quasifission and fusion-fission fragments. The investigation of the optimal conditions for the synthesis of the new element $Z$=120 ($A$=302) show that the $^{54}$Cr+$^{248}$Cm reaction is preferable in comparison with the $^{58}$Fe+$^{244}$Pu and $^{64}$Ni+$^{238}$U reactions because the excitation function of the evaporation residues of the former reaction is some orders of magnitude larger than that for the last two reactions.

Triple coalescence singularity in a dynamical atomic process

We show that the high energy limit for the amplitude of the double electron capture to the bound state of the Coulomb field of a nucleus with emission of a single photon is determined by behavior of the wave function in the vicinity of the singular triple coalescence point.

Angular anisotropy of the fusion-fission and quasifission fragments

The anisotropy in the angular distribution of the fusion-fission and quasifission fragments for the $^{16}$O+$^{238}$U, $^{19}$F+$^{208}$Pb and $^{32}$S+$^{208}$Pb reactions is studied by analyzing the angular momentum distributions of the dinuclear system and compound nucleus which are formed after capture and complete fusion, respectively. The orientation angles of axial symmetry axes of colliding nuclei to the beam direction are taken into account for the calculation of the variance of the projection of the total spin onto the fission axis. It is shown that the deviation of the experimental angular anisotropy from the statistical model picture is connected with the contribution of the quasifission fragments which is dominant in the $^{32}$S+$^{208}$Pb reaction. Enhancement of anisotropy at low energies in the $^{16}$O+$^{238}$U reaction is connected with quasifission of the dinuclear system having low temperature and effective moment of inertia.

Quantum decoherence and classical correlations of the harmonic oscillator in the Lindblad theory

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems we determine the degree of quantum decoherence and classical correlations of a harmonic oscillator interacting with a thermal bath. The transition from quantum to classical behaviour of the considered system is analyzed and it is shown that the classicality takes place during a finite interval of time. We calculate also the decoherence time and show that it has the same scale as the time after which statistical fluctuations become comparable with quantum fluctuations.

Deformation of quantum oscillator and of its interaction with environment

A master equation for the deformed quantum harmonic oscillator interacting with a dissipative environment, in particular with a thermal bath, is derived in the microscopic model by using perturbation theory, for the case when the interaction is deformed. The coefficients of the master equation and of equations of motion for observables depend on the deformation function. The steady state solution of the equation for the density matrix in the number representation is obtained and shown that it satisfies the detailed balance condition. The equilibrium energy of the deformed harmonic oscillator, calculated in the approximation of small deformation, does not depend on the deformation of interaction operators.

The steady state solution of the equation for the density matrix in the number representation is obtained and the equilibrium energy of the deformed harmonic oscillator is calculated in the approximation of small deformation.

Lindblad master equation for the damped harmonic oscillator with deformed dissipation

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems, a master equation for the quantum harmonic oscillator interacting with a dissipative environment, in particular with a thermal bath, is derived for the case when the interaction is based on deformed algebra. The equations of motion for observables strongly depend on the deformation function. The expectation values of the number operator and squared number operator are calculated in the limit of a small deformation parameter for the case of zero temperature of the thermal bath. The steady state solution of the equation for the density matrix in the number representation is obtained and its independence of the deformation is shown.

Uncertainty functions of the open quantum harmonic oscillator in the Lindblad theory

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems, we derive closed analytical expressions of the Heisenberg and Schrödinger generalized uncertainty functions for a particle moving in a harmonic oscillator potential. The particle is initially in an arbitrary correlated coherent state, and interacts with an environment at finite temperature. We describe how the quantum and thermal fluctuations contribute to the uncertainties in the canonical variables of the system and analyze the relative importance of these fluctuations in the evolution of the system. We show that upon contact with the bath the system evolves from a quantum-dominated to a thermal-dominated state in a time that is of the same order as the decoherence time calculated in other models in the context of transitions from quantum to classical physics.

Formation of ions by high energy photons

We calculate the electron energy spectrum of ionization by a high energy photon, accompanied by creation of electron-positron pair. The total cross section of the process is also obtained. The asymptotics of the cross section does not depend on the photon energies. At the photon energies exceeding a certain value $ω_0$ this appeares to to be the dominant mechanism of formation of the ions. The dependence of $ω_0$ on the value of nuclear charge is obtained. Our results are consistent with experimental data.

Purity and decoherence in the theory of a damped harmonic oscillator

For the generalized master equations derived by Karrlein and Grabert for the microscopic model of a damped harmonic oscillator, the conditions for purity of states are written, in particular for different initial conditions and different types of damping, including Ohmic, Drude and weak coupling cases, Agarwal and Weidlich-Haake models. It is shown that the states which remain pure are the squeezed states with constant in time variances. For pure states, the generalized nonlinear Schr\" odinger-type equations corresponding to these master equations are also obtained. Then the condition for purity of states of a damped harmonic oscillator is considered in the framework of Lindblad theory for open quantum systems. For a special choice of the environment coefficients, the correlated coherent states with constant variances and covariance are shown to be the only states which remain pure all the time during the evolution of the considered system. In Karrlein-Grabert and Lindblad models, as well as in the considered particular models, the expressions of the rate of entropy production is written and it is shown that the states which preserve their purity in time are also the states which minimize the entropy production and, therefore, they are the most stable ones under evolution in the presence of the environment and play an important role in the description of decoherence phenomenon.

Parity shift and beat staggering structure of octupole bands in a collective model for quadrupole-octupole deformed nuclei

We propose a collective model formalism which describes the strong parity shift observed in low-lying spectra of nuclei with octupole deformations together with the fine rotational band structure developed at higher angular momenta. The parity effect is obtained by the Schroedinger equation for oscillations of the reflection asymmetric (octupole) shape between two opposite orientations in an angular momentum dependent double-well potential. The rotational structure is obtained by a collective quadrupole-octupole rotation Hamiltonian. The model scheme reproduces the complicated beat staggering patterns observed in the octupole bands of light actinide nuclei. It explains the angular momentum evolution of octupole spectra as the interplay between the octupole shape oscillation (parity shift) mode and the stable quadrupole-octupole rotation mode.

Nuclear collective motion with a coherent coupling interaction between quadrupole and octupole modes

A collective Hamiltonian for the rotation-vibration motion of nuclei is considered, in which the axial quadrupole and octupole degrees of freedom are coupled through the centrifugal interaction. The potential of the system depends on the two deformation variables $β_2$ and $β_3$. The system is considered to oscillate between positive and negative $β_3$-values, by rounding an infinite potential core in the $(β_2,β_3)$-plane with $β_2>0$. By assuming a coherent contribution of the quadrupole and octupole oscillation modes in the collective motion, the energy spectrum is derived in an explicit analytic form, providing specific parity shift effects. On this basis several possible ways in the evolution of quadrupole-octupole collectivity are outlined. A particular application of the model to the energy levels and electric transition probabilities in alternating parity spectra of the nuclei $^{150}$Nd, $^{152}$Sm, $^{154}$Gd and $^{156}$Dy is presented.

Particle transfer and fusion cross-section for Super-heavy nuclei in dinuclear system

Within the dinuclear system (DNS) conception, instead of solving Fokker-Planck Equation (FPE) analytically, the Master equation is solved numerically to calculate the fusion probability of super-heavy nuclei, so that the harmonic oscillator approximation to the potential energy of the DNS is avoided. The relative motion concerning the energy, the angular momentum, and the fragment deformation relaxations is explicitly treated to couple with the diffusion process, so that the nucleon transition probabilities, which are derived microscopically, are time-dependent. Comparing with the analytical solution of FPE, our results preserve more dynamical effects. The calculated evaporation residue cross sections for one-neutron emission channel of Pb-based reactions are basically in agreement with the known experimental data within one order of magnitude.

Deformation and orientation effects in the driving potential of the dinuclear model

A double-folding method is used to calculate the nuclear and Coulomb interaction between two deformed nuclei with arbitrary orientations. A simplified Skryme-type interaction is adopted. The contributions of nuclear interaction and Coulomb interaction due to the deformation and orientation of the nuclei are evaluated for the driving potential used in the description of heavy-ion fusion reaction. So far there is no satisfactory theory to describe the evolution of the dynamical nuclear deformation and orientations during the heavy-ion fusion process. Our results estimated the magnitude of above effects.
