PATH: Next-Interval Prediction via Autoregressive Tree Hierarchy on Tabular Data

Interval prediction aims to achieve a target coverage level while producing intervals that are as short as possible. Many conformal regression pipelines first predict an uncertainty surrogate and then convert it into an interval through calibration or selection. This separation supports coverage calibration, but post hoc rules largely determine the final interval and do not fully use the learned output distribution. We observe that the resulting intervals have inherently hierarchical geometry: an interval can be recursively refined into nested subintervals, and binary trees naturally represent this structure. We formulate this hierarchy as next-interval prediction and propose PATH, which learns how probability mass flows from each interval to its next nested subintervals. PATH predicts a base leaf distribution and uses an autoregressive decoder to refine branch probabilities. Matching the distribution to the interval hierarchy aligns learning with extraction: PATH accumulates probability over adjacent output intervals and returns the shortest contiguous range reaching a selected mass. We compare PATH with 24 baselines for interval prediction on PATHBench, comprising 56 OpenML regression datasets. PATH substantially shortens the resulting intervals, achieving the lowest mean normalized length, 0.1473, while maintaining mean coverage of 0.9144. These results establish hierarchical output modeling as an effective approach for compact interval prediction on tabular data. Code is publicly available at https://github.com/pxcai/PATH.

Strengthening LLMs for Tabular Prediction with Structural Priors

Tabular prediction has long been dominated by gradient-boosted decision trees and specialized deep tabular models, while large language models (LLMs) remain difficult to make competitive despite their cross-task adaptability and transparent reasoning traces. We address this gap by incorporating tabular structural priors into LLM post-training. Specifically, we propose Permutation Relative Policy Optimization (PRPO), which operationalizes column-permutation invariance through label-preserving column permutations and two-level advantage estimation. This design converts sparse outcome rewards into denser and more stable optimization signals. Extensive experiments on 139 OpenML datasets show that our 8B model reaches a genuinely competitive regime against strong specialized tabular baselines. It achieves strong fully supervised performance, dominates zero-shot settings, and performs on par with 32-shot strong baselines. Moreover, it substantially outperforms much larger general-purpose and reasoning LLMs, including up to a 53.17% improvement over DeepSeek-R1 (685B). These results show that structural-prior RL post-training is an effective route for making LLMs competitive in tabular prediction.

NEF-NET+: Adapting Electrocardio panorama in the wild

Conventional multi-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) systems capture cardiac signals from a fixed set of anatomical viewpoints defined by lead placement. However, certain cardiac conditions (e.g., Brugada syndrome) require additional, non-standard viewpoints to reveal diagnostically critical patterns that may be absent in standard leads. To systematically overcome this limitation, Nef-Net was recently introduced to reconstruct a continuous electrocardiac field, enabling virtual observation of ECG signals from arbitrary views (termed Electrocardio Panorama). Despite its promise, Nef-Net operates under idealized assumptions and faces in-the-wild challenges, such as long-duration ECG modeling, robustness to device-specific signal artifacts, and suboptimal lead placement calibration. This paper presents NEF-NET+, an enhanced framework for realistic panoramic ECG synthesis that supports arbitrary-length signal synthesis from any desired view, generalizes across ECG devices, and compensates for operator-induced deviations in electrode placement. These capabilities are enabled by a newly designed model architecture that performs direct view transformation, incorporating a workflow comprising offline pretraining, device calibration tuning steps as well as an on-the-fly calibration step for patient-specific adaptation. To rigorously evaluate panoramic ECG synthesis, we construct a new Electrocardio Panorama benchmark, called Panobench, comprising 5367 recordings with 48-view per subject, capturing the full spatial variability of cardiac electrical activity. Experimental results show that NEF-NET+ delivers substantial improvements over Nef-Net, yielding an increase of around 6 dB in PSNR in real-world setting. The code and Panobench will be released in a subsequent publication.
