Toward Trustworthy Evaluation of Sustainability Rating Methodologies: A Human-AI Collaborative Framework for Benchmark Dataset Construction

Sustainability or ESG rating agencies use company disclosures and external data to produce scores or ratings that assess the environmental, social, and governance performance of a company. However, sustainability ratings across agencies for a single company vary widely, limiting their comparability, credibility, and relevance to decision-making. To harmonize the rating results, we propose adopting a universal human-AI collaboration framework to generate trustworthy benchmark datasets for evaluating sustainability rating methodologies. The framework comprises two complementary parts: STRIDE (Sustainability Trust Rating & Integrity Data Equation) provides principled criteria and a scoring system that guide the construction of firm-level benchmark datasets using large language models (LLMs), and SR-Delta, a discrepancy-analysis procedural framework that surfaces insights for potential adjustments. The framework enables scalable and comparable assessment of sustainability rating methodologies. We call on the broader AI community to adopt AI-powered approaches to strengthen and advance sustainability rating methodologies that support and enforce urgent sustainability agendas.

When Domains Interact: Asymmetric and Order-Sensitive Cross-Domain Effects in Reinforcement Learning for Reasoning

Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) has become a key technique for improving reasoning abilities in large language models, yet its behavior under different domain sequencing strategies is poorly understood. In particular, the impact of sequential (one domain at a time) versus mixed-domain (multiple domain at a time) training in GRPO has not been systematically studied. We provide the first systematic analysis of training-order effects across math, science, logic, and puzzle reasoning tasks. We found (1) single-domain generalization is highly asymmetric: training on other domains improves math reasoning by approximately 25\% accuracy, while yielding negligible transfer to logic and puzzle; (2) cross-domain interactions are highly order-dependent: training in the order math$\rightarrow$science achieves 83\% / 41\% accuracy on math / science, while reversing the order to science$\rightarrow$math degrades performance to 77\% / 25\%; (3) no single strategy is universally optimal in multi-domain training: sequential training favors math (up to 84\%), mixed training favors science and logic, and poor ordering can incur large performance gaps (from 70\% to 56\%). Overall, our findings demonstrate that GRPO under multi-domain settings exhibits pronounced asymmetry, order sensitivity, and strategy dependence, highlighting the necessity of domain-aware and order-aware training design.

Electric field effects in one-dimensional spin-1/2 $K_1J_1Γ_1Γ_1^\prime K_2J_2$ model with ferromagnetic Kitaev coupling

We perform a systematic study on the effects of electric fields in the Luttinger liquid phase of the one-dimensional spin-$1/2$ $K_1J_1Γ_1Γ_1^\prime K_2J_2$ model in the region of ferromagnetic nearest-neighboring Kitaev coupling. We find that while electric fields along $(1,1,1)$-direction maintain the Luttinger liquid behavior, fields along other directions drive the system to a dimerized state. An estimation is made on how effective a $(1,1,1)$-field is for tuning the Luttinger parameter in real materials. Our work is useful for understanding the effects of electric fields in one-dimensional generalized Kitaev spin models, and provides a starting point for exploring the electric-field-related physics in two dimensions based on a quasi-one-dimensional approach.

Gapless and ordered phases in spin-1/2 Kitaev-XX-Gamma chain

In this work, we study the spin-1/2 Kitaev chain with additional XX and symmetric off-diagonal Gamma interactions. By a combination of Jordan-Wigner transformation and density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) numerical simulations, we obtain the exact solution of the model and map out the phase diagram containing six distinct phases. The four gapped phases display ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic magnetic orders along the (1, 1, 0)- and (1, -1, 0)-spin directions, whereas in the gapless phases, the low energy spectrum consists of two branches of helical Majorana fermions with unequal velocities. Transition lines separating different phases include deconfined quantum critical lines with dynamical critical exponent z = 1 and quadratic critical lines with z = 2. Our work reveals the rich interplay among symmetry, magnetic order, and quantum criticality in the Kitaev-XX-Gamma chain

Tri-component-pairing chiral superconductivity on the honeycomb lattice with mixed $s$- and $d$-wave symmetries

In this work, we investigate chiral topological superconductors on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice with coexisting $d_{x^2-y^2}$, $d_{xy}$, and $s$-wave pairing symmetries. Using a Ginzburg-Landau free energy analysis, the pairing gap function is shown to exhibit a tri-component form $s+d_{x^2-y^2}e^{iϕ_1}+d_{xy}e^{iϕ_2}$, where $ϕ_1$ and $ϕ_2$ are phase differences between the $d$- and $s$-wave pairing components, which spontaneously breaks both time reversal and $C_6$ rotational symmetries. Chern numbers of the energy bands are calculated to be nonzero, demonstrating the topologically nontrivial nature of the system. The anomalous AC Hall conductivity is computed, which is not invariant under $C_6$ rotations, reflecting the anisotropic nature of the pairing gap function. Fractional magnetic vortices are also discussed, arising from the multi-component nature of the pairing gap function.

Left-left-right-right magnetic order in spin-1/2 Kitaev-Heisenberg chain

In this work, we perform a combination of analytical and numerical studies on the phase diagram of the spin-1/2 Kitaev-Heisenberg chain in the region of negative Kitaev and positive Heisenberg couplings. Apart from the antiferromagnetic phase, we find a magnetically ordered phase with left-left-right-right order and a gapless phase with central charge value $c=1$, resolving the existing contradictory results in literature regarding this parameter region. In particular, the origin of the left-left-right-right order is clarified based on a perturbative Luttinger liquid analysis. The left-left-right-right phase is further shown to persist in the Kitaev-Heisenberg-Gamma model when a small nonzero Gamma interaction is introduced. Using a coupled-chain method, we also demonstrate that the one-dimensional (1D) left-left-right-right order gives a quasi-1D explanation for the 2D stripy order of the same model on the honeycomb lattice.

Emergent SU(2)$_1$ conformal symmetry in the spin-1/2 Kitaev-Gamma chain with a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

We study the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Kitaev-Gamma model with a bond-dependent Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction, which can be induced by an electric field applied in the third direction where the first and second directions refer to the two bond directions in the model. By a combination of field theory and symmetry analysis, an extended gapless phase with an emergent SU(2)$_1$ conformal symmetry is found in the phase diagram of the spin-1/2 Kitaev-Gamma-DM chain. The analytic predictions are in good agreements with numerical results obtained from density matrix renormalization group simulations.

SELF: Self-Extend the Context Length With Logistic Growth Function

Large language models suffer issues when operated on long contexts that are larger than their training context length due to the standard position encoding for tokens in the attention layer. Tokens a long distance apart will rarely have an effect on each other and long prompts yield unexpected results. To solve this problem, we propose SELF (Self-Extend the Context Length With Logistic Growth Function): a solution of grouping consecutive tokens at varying group sizes using a logistic capacity equation combined with a constant group size at smaller relative distances. Our model had an increase in performance of up to 12% compared to the LongLM extension method in LEval (specifically on the Qwen model). On summarization related tasks in LongBench, our model performed up to 6.4% better than LongLM (specifically on the Llama-2-7b model). On reading comprehension tasks from LEval, our model performed up to 5.4% better than the LongLM. Our code is available at https://github.com/alexeipc/SELF-LLM.

Thinking Preference Optimization

Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) has been a go-to and effective method for enhancing long chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning in relatively small LLMs by fine-tuning them with long CoT responses from larger LLMs. To continually improve reasoning abilities, we can either collect new high-quality long CoT reasoning SFT data or repeatedly train on existing SFT datasets. However, acquiring new long CoT SFT data is costly and limited, while repeated training often results in a performance plateau or decline. To further boost the performance with the SFT data, we propose Thinking Preference Optimization (ThinkPO), a simple yet effective post-SFT method that enhances long CoT reasoning without requiring new long CoT responses. Instead, ThinkPO utilizes readily available or easily obtainable short CoT reasoning responses as rejected answers and long CoT responses as chosen answers for the same question. It then applies direct preference optimization to encourage the model to favor longer reasoning outputs. Experiments show that ThinkPO further improves the reasoning performance of SFT-ed models, e.g. it increases math reasoning accuracy of SFT-ed models by 8.6% and output length by 25.9%. Notably, ThinkPO is capable of continually boosting the performance of the publicly distilled SFT model, e.g., increasing the official DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-7B's performance on MATH500 from 87.4% to 91.2%.

Nonsymmorphic spin-space cubic groups and SU(2)$_1$ conformal invariance in one-dimensional spin-1/2 models

Recently, extended gapless phases with emergent SU(2)$_1$ conformal invariance occupying finite regions in the phase diagrams have been found in one-dimensional spin-1/2 models with nonsymmorphic $O_h$ symmetry groups. In this work, we investigate the question of whether the conditions for emergent SU(2)$_1$ invariance can be loosened. We find that besides the nonsymmorphic $O_h$ group, the other four smaller nonsymmorphic cubic groups including $O$, $T_h$, $T_d$ and $T$ can also give rise to emergent SU(2)$_1$ invariance. Minimal spin-1/2 models having these nonsymmorphic cubic groups as symmetry groups are constructed, and numerical evidences for the emergent SU(2)$_1$ invariance are provided. Our work is useful for understanding gapless phases in one-dimensional spin systems with nonsymmorphic symmetries.

Measurement-based quantum computation in symmetry protected topological states of one-dimensional integer spin systems

In this work, we generalize the algebraic framework for measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC) in one-dimensional symmetry protected topological states recently developed in [Quantum 7, 1215 (2023)], such that in addition to half-odd-integer spins, the integer spin chains can also be incorporated in the framework. The computational order parameter characterizing the efficiency of MBQC is identified, which, for spin-$1$ chains in the Haldane phase, coincides with the conventional string order parameter in condensed matter physics.

Stabilizing the Maximal Entropy Moment Method for Rarefied Gas Dynamics at Single-Precision

The maximal entropy moment method (MEM) is systematic solution of the challenging problem: generating extended hydrodynamic equations valid for both dense and rarefied gases. However, simulating MEM suffers from a computational expensive and ill-conditioned maximal entropy problem. It causes numerical overflow and breakdown when the numerical precision is insufficient, especially for flows like high-speed shock waves. It also prevents modern GPUs from accelerating MEM with their enormous single floating-point precision computation power. This paper aims to stabilize MEM, making it possible to simulating very strong normal shock waves on modern GPUs at single precision. We improve the condition number of the maximal entropy problem by proposing gauge transformations, which moves not only flow fields but also hydrodynamic equations into a more optimal coordinate system. We addressed numerical overflow and breakdown in the maximal entropy problem by employing the canonical form of distribution and a modified Newton optimization method. Moreover, we discovered a counter-intuitive phenomenon that over-refined spatial mesh beyond mean free path degrades the stability of MEM. With these techniques, we accomplished single-precision GPU simulations of high speed shock wave up to Mach 10 utilizing 35 moments MEM, while previous methods only achieved Mach 4 on double-precision.

Nonsymmorphic bosonization in one-dimensional generalized Kitaev spin-1/2 models

In this work, we perform a detailed study on the consequences of nonsymmorphic symmetries in the Luttinger phase of the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Kitaev-Heisenberg-Gamma model with an antiferromagnetic Kitaev interaction. Nonsymmorphic bosonization formulas for the spin operators are proposed, containing ten non-universal coefficients which are determined by our density matrix renormalization group simulations to a high degree of accuracy. Using the nonsymmorphic bosonization formulas, different Fourier components and decay powers in the correlation functions are disentangled, the response to weak magnetic fields is analyzed, and the zigzag magnetic order in two dimensions is recovered from a system of weakly coupled chains. We also find a line of critical points with an emergent SU(2)$_1$ conformal symmetry located on the boundary of the Luttinger liquid phase, where a nonabelian version of nonsymmorphic bosonization should be applied.

Measurement-based quantum computation in finite one-dimensional systems: string order implies computational power

We present a new framework for assessing the power of measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC) on short-range entangled symmetric resource states, in spatial dimension one. It requires fewer assumptions than previously known. The formalism can handle finitely extended systems (as opposed to the thermodynamic limit), and does not require translation-invariance. Further, we strengthen the connection between MBQC computational power and string order. Namely, we establish that whenever a suitable set of string order parameters is non-zero, a corresponding set of unitary gates can be realized with fidelity arbitrarily close to unity.

Counter-intuitive yet efficient regimes for measurement based quantum computation on symmetry protected spin chains

Quantum states picked from non-trivial symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases have computational power in measurement based quantum computation. This power is uniform across SPT phases, and is unlocked by measurements that break the symmetry. Except at special points in the phase, all computational schemes known to date place these symmetry-breaking measurements far apart, to avoid the correlations introduced by spurious, non-universal entanglement. In this work, we investigate the opposite regime of computation where the symmetry-breaking measurements are packed densely. We show that not only does the computation still function, but in fact, under reasonable physical assumptions, this is the most resource efficient mode.

Circular cartograms via the elastic beam algorithm originated from cartographic generalization

The circular cartogram, also known as the Dorling map, is a widely used tool for visualizing statistical data. It represents regions as circles with their areas in proportion to the statistical values and requires circle displacement to avoid overlap and maintain spatial relationships. In this paper, we propose a new approach for circular cartogram production that utilizes the elastic beam displacement algorithm in cartographic generalization. First, the initial circles are generated with their areas in proportion to the statistical values. Second, an elastic beam structure is built as a proximity graph based on the spatial relations between the circles. Third, the circles violating the quality requirements are considered to have a force on the nodes of a beam. Fourth, the elastic beam algorithm is applied to assign forces for each node to determine the new positions of the circles. Steps two through four are repeated until a circular cartogram that meets the defined quality requirements is obtained. The experiments indicate that the proposed approach can successfully generate circular cartograms without overlaps while maintaining topology and relative relationships with higher quality than existing approaches.

Linear building pattern recognition via spatial knowledge graph

Building patterns are important urban structures that reflect the effect of the urban material and social-economic on a region. Previous researches are mostly based on the graph isomorphism method and use rules to recognize building patterns, which are not efficient. The knowledge graph uses the graph to model the relationship between entities, and specific subgraph patterns can be efficiently obtained by using relevant reasoning tools. Thus, we try to apply the knowledge graph to recognize linear building patterns. First, we use the property graph to express the spatial relations in proximity, similar and linear arrangement between buildings; secondly, the rules of linear pattern recognition are expressed as the rules of knowledge graph reasoning; finally, the linear building patterns are recognized by using the rule-based reasoning in the built knowledge graph. The experimental results on a dataset containing 1289 buildings show that the method in this paper can achieve the same precision and recall as the existing methods; meanwhile, the recognition efficiency is improved by 5.98 times.

Origin of nonsymmorphic bosonization formulas in generalized antiferromagnetic Kitaev spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ chains from a renormalization-group perspective

Recently, in the Luttinger liquid phase of the one-dimensional generalized antiferromagnetic Kitaev spin-1/2 model, it has been found that the abelian bosonization formulas of the local spin operators only respect the exact discrete nonsymmorphic symmetry group of the model, not the emergent U(1) symmetry. In this work, we perform a renormalization group (RG) study to provide explanations for the origin of the U(1) breaking terms in the bosonization formulas. We find that the lack of U(1) symmetry originates from the wavefunction renormalization effects in the spin operators along the RG flow induced by the U(1) breaking interactions in the microscopic Hamiltonian. In addition, the RG analysis can give predictions to the signs and order of magnitudes of the coefficients in the bosonization formulas. Our work is helpful to understand the rich nonsymmorphic physics in one-dimensional Kitaev spin models.
