Constant curvature rotational nets and periodic B\"acklund transforms

After giving explicit parametrizations of discrete constant negative Gaussian curvature surfaces (negative CGC, i.e. discrete pseudospherical surfaces) of revolution, we construct B\"acklund transformations that again will have explicit parametrizations and are new examples of non-rotational discrete pseudospherical surfaces. In the process of doing this, for discrete CGC circular nets, we can provide rotationally invariant families of flat connections and give conditions on them so that the B\"acklund transformations preserve periodicity, that is, have annular topology.

Discrete minimal nets with symmetries

In this paper, we extend the notion of Schwarz reflection principle for smooth minimal surfaces to the discrete analogues for minimal surfaces, and use it to create global examples of discrete minimal nets with high degree of symmetry.

Analytic extensions of constant mean curvature one geometric catenoids in de Sitter 3-space

We show that a certain simply-stated notion of "analytic completeness" of the image of a real analytic map implies the map admits no analytic extension. We also give a useful criterion for that notion of analytic completeness by defining arc-properness of continuous maps, which can be considered as a very weak version of properness. As an application, we judge the analytic completeness of a certain class of constant mean curvature surfaces (the so-called "G-catenoids") or their analytic extensions in the de Sitter 3-space.

Infinitesimal Darboux transformation and semi-discrete mKdV equation

We connect certain continuous motions of discrete planar curves resulting in semi-discrete potential Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation with Darboux transformations of smooth planar curves. In doing so, we define infinitesimal Darboux transformations that include the aforementioned motions, and also give an alternate geometric interpretation for establishing the semi-discrete potential mKdV equation.

Discrete channel surfaces

We present a definition of discrete channel surfaces in Lie sphere geometry, which reflects several properties for smooth channel surfaces. Various sets of data, defined at vertices, on edges or on faces, are associated with a discrete channel surface that may be used to reconstruct the underlying particular discrete Legendre map. As an application we investigate isothermic discrete channel surfaces and prove a discrete version of Vessiot's Theorem.

Analytic extension of exceptional constant mean curvature one catenoids in de Sitter 3-space

Catenoids in de Sitter $3$-space $S^3_1$ belong to a certain class of space-like constant mean curvature one surfaces. In a previous work, the authors classified such catenoids, and found that two different classes of countably many exceptional elliptic catenoids are not realized as closed subsets in $S^3_1$. Here we show that such exceptional catenoids have closed analytic extensions in $S^3_1$ with interesting properties.

Semi-discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with Weierstrass-type representations and their singularities

We establish what semi-discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with Weierstrass-type representations in $3$-dimensional Riemannian and Lorentzian spaceforms are, confirming their required properties regarding curvatures and parallel surfaces, and then classify them. We then define and analyze their singularities. In particular, we discuss singularities of (1) semi-discrete surfaces with non-zero constant Gaussian curvature, (2) parallel surfaces of semi-discrete minimal and maximal surfaces, and (3) semi-discrete constant mean curvature $1$ surfaces in de Sitter $3$-space. We include comparisons with different previously known definitions of such singularities.

Polynomial Conserved Quantities of Lie Applicable Surfaces

Using the gauge theoretic approach for Lie applicable surfaces, we characterise certain subclasses of surfaces in terms of polynomial conserved quantities. These include isothermic and Guichard surfaces of conformal geometry and $L$-isothermic surfaces of Laguerre geometry. In this setting one can see that the well known transformations available for these surfaces are induced by the transformations of the underlying Lie applicable surfaces. We also consider linear Weingarten surfaces in this setting and develop a new Bäcklund-type transformation for these surfaces.

Discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with singularities in Riemannian and Lorentzian spaceforms

In this paper we define and analyze singularities of discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with Weierstrass-type representations in $3$-dimensional Riemannian and Lorentzian spaceforms. In particular, we discuss singularities of discrete surfaces with non-zero constant Gaussian curvature, and parallel surfaces of discrete minimal and maximal surfaces, and discrete constant mean curvature $1$ surfaces in de Sitter $3$-space, including comparisons with different previously known definitions of such singularities.

Magnetic geodesics on surfaces with singularities

We prove that, generically, magnetic geodesics on surfaces will turn away from points with lightlike tangent planes, and we motivate our result with numerical solutions for closed magnetic geodesics.

Zero mean curvature entire graphs of mixed type in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space

It is classically known that the only zero mean curvature entire graphs in the Euclidean 3-space are planes, by Bernstein's theorem. A surface in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space $\boldsymbol{R}^3_1$ is called of mixed type if it changes causal type from space-like to time-like. In $\boldsymbol{R}^3_1$, Osamu Kobayashi found two zero mean curvature entire graphs of mixed type that are not planes. As far as the authors know, these two examples were the only known examples of entire zero mean curvature graphs of mixed type without singularities. In this paper, we construct several families of real analytic zero mean curvature entire graphs of mixed type in Lorentz-Minkowski $3$-space. The entire graphs mentioned above lie in one of these classes.

Analytic extension of Jorge-Meeks type maximal surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space

The Jorge-Meeks $n$-noid ($n\ge 2$) is a complete minimal surface of genus zero with $n$ catenoidal ends in the Euclidean 3-space $\boldsymbol{R}^3$, which has $(2π/n)$-rotation symmetry with respect to its axis. In this paper, we show that the corresponding maximal surface $f_n$ in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space $\boldsymbol{R}^3_1$ has an analytic extension $\tilde f_n$ as a properly embedded zero mean curvature surface. The extension changes type into a time-like (minimal) surface.

Zero mean curvature surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space and 2-dimensional fluid mechanics

Space-like maximal surfaces and time-like minimal surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski3-space are both characterized as zero mean curvature surfaces. We are interested in the case where the zero mean curvature surface changes type from space-like to time-like at a given non-degenerate null curve. We consider this phenomenon and its interesting connection to 2-dimensional fluid mechanics in this expository article.

Zero mean curvature surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space which change type across a light-like line

It is well-known that space-like maximal surfaces and time-like minimal surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space R^3_1 have singularities in general. They are both characterized as zero mean curvature surfaces. We are interested in the case where the singular set consists of a light-like line, since this case has not been analyzed before. As a continuation of a previous work by the authors, we give the first example of a family of such surfaces which change type across the light-like line. As a corollary, we also obtain a family of zero mean curvature hypersurfaces in R^{n+1}_1 that change type across an (n-1)-dimensional light-like plane.
