The Diphoton Excess Inspired Electroweak Baryogenesis

A resonance in the diphoton channel with invariant mass $m_{γγ} = 750$ GeV was claimed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the run-2 LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. In this paper, we explain this diphoton excess as a pseudo-scalar singlet, which is produced at the LHC through gluon fusion with exotic scalar quarks running in the loop. We point out the scalar singlet might trigger a two-step electroweak phase transition, which can be strongly first oder. By assuming there are CP violations associated with interactions of the scalar quarks, the model is found to be able to generate adequate baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the electroweak baryogenesis mechanism. Constraints on the model are studied.

The Minimal Scalar-Stealth Top Interpretation of the Diphoton Excess

A resonance near 750 GeV has been observed at both the ATLAS and CMS experiments in its diphoton decay channel. We propose a possible interpretation based on a simplified model: a 750 GeV singlet scalar resonance, and a minimal stealth vector quark are introduced. At the LHC, the scalar is produced through gluon fusion, and subsequently decays to diphoton final state. The light stealth quarks could enhance the diphoton rate significantly, while still keeping other channels below the current LHC search limits. We find that the stealth quarks around 400 ~ 500 GeV with its coupling to scalar around 0.5 ~ 1.5 could explain the diphoton excess, and avoid current di-jet constraints. We also comment on other potential signatures of this stealth model.

The Diphoton Excess from an Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

In this paper we explain the diphoton excess in the invariant mass M $\approx$ 750 GeV , claimed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the run-2 LHC, as the signal of a scalar singlet in a string inspired exceptional supersymmetric standard model (ESSM). The scalar singlet might play a rule in the spontaneous breaking of the $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry of the ESSM and couples to diphoton and/or gluon pair with the help of exotic quarks and Higgs-like supermultiplets, which are contained in the fundamental representation of the $E_6$ group. The model might give rise to a large enough production cross section at the LHC but can hardly fit with the wide width of the resonance except in the strong couple regime.

ATLAS Diboson Excesses from the Stealth Doublet Model

The ATLAS collaboration has reported excesses in diboson invariant mass searches of new resonances around 2 TeV, which might be a prediction of new physics around that mass range. We interpret these results in the context of a modified stealth doublet model where the extra Higgs doublet has a Yukawa interaction with the first generation quarks, and show that the heavy CP-even Higgs boson can naturally explain the excesses in the WW and ZZ channels with a small Yukawa coupling, ξ\sim 0.15, and a tiny mixing angle with the SM Higgs boson, α\sim 0.06. Furthermore, the model satisfy constraints from colliders and electroweak precision measurements.

Catalysis of Electroweak Baryogenesis via Fermionic Higgs Portal Dark Matter

We investigate catalysis of electroweak baryogenesis by fermionic Higgs portal dark matter using a two Higgs doublet model augmented by vector-like fermions. The lightest neutral fermion mass eigenstate provides a viable dark matter candidate in the presence of a stabilizing symmetry Z_2 or gauged U(1)_D symmetry. Allowing for a non-vanishing CP-violating phase in the lowest-dimension Higgs portal dark matter interactions allows generation of the observed dark matter relic density while evading direct detection bounds. The same phase provides a source for electroweak baryogenesis. We show that it is possible to obtain the observed abundances of visible and dark matter while satisfying present bounds from electric dipole moment (EDM) searches and direct detection experiments. Improving the present electron (neutron) EDM sensitivity by one (two) orders of magnitude would provide a conclusive test of this scenario.

Electroweak Baryogenesis in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We study electroweak baryogenesis in the E_6 inspired exceptional supersymmetric standard model ( E_6SSM ). The relaxation coefficients driven by singlinos and the new gaugino as well as the transport equation of the Higgs supermultiplet number density in the E_6SSM are calculated. Our numerical simulation shows that both CP-violating source terms from singlinos and the new gaugino can solely give rise to a correct baryon asymmetry of the Universe via the electroweak baryogenesis mechanism.

First order electroweak phase transition triggered by the Higgs portal vector dark matter

We investigate an extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a U(1)' gauge symmetry, which is spontaneously broken by a complex scalar singlet and where the new gauge boson is a stable dark matter candidate via a Z2 flavor symmetry. The possibility of generating a strongly first order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) needed for the electroweak baryogenesis mechanism in this model is studied using a gauge independent method. Our result shows a considerable parameter space where both successful dark matter phenomenologies and a strongly first order EWPT can be achieved.

The Higgs Seesaw Induced Neutrino Masses and Dark Matter

In this paper we propose a possible explanation of the active neutrino Majorana masses with the TeV scale new physics which also provide a dark matter candidate. We extend the Standard Model (SM) with a local U(1)' symmetry and introduce a seesaw relation for the vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of the exotic scalar singlets, which break the U(1)' spontaneously. The larger VEV is responsible for generating the Dirac mass term of the heavy neutrinos, while the smaller for the Majorana mass term. As a result active neutrino masses are generated via the modified inverse seesaw mechanism. The lightest of the new fermion singlets, which are introduced to cancel the U(1)' anomalies, can be a stable particle with ultra flavor symmetry and thus a plausible dark matter candidate. We explore the parameter space with constraints from the dark matter relic abundance and dark matter direct detection.

Electroweak Baryogenesis, Electric Dipole Moments, and Higgs Diphoton Decays

We study the viability of electroweak baryogenesis in a two Higgs doublet model scenario augmented by vector-like, electroweakly interacting fermions. Considering a limited, but illustrative region of the model parameter space, we obtain the observed cosmic baryon asymmetry while satisfying present constraints from the non-observation of the permanent electric dipole moment (EDM) of the electron and the combined ATLAS and CMS result for the Higgs boson diphoton decay rate. The observation of a non-zero electron EDM in a next generation experiment and/or the observation of an excess (over the Standard Model) of Higgs to diphoton events with the 14 TeV LHC run or a future $e^+e^-$ collider would be consistent with generation of the observed baryon asymmetry in this scenario.

Hidden from View: Neutrino Masses, Dark Matter and TeV-Scale Leptogenesis in a Neutrinophilic 2HDM

We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model providing dark matter and a TeV-scale seesaw mechanism that also allows for viable leptogenesis. In addition to the Standard Model degrees of freedom, the model contains a neutrinophilic Higgs doublet, a scalar singlet, and six singlet fermions (including three right-handed Majorana neutrinos) that are charged under a local $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry. We show how the $U(1)^\prime$ charge assignments and the choice of scalar potential can lead to a TeV-scale seesaw mechanism and $\mathcal{O}(1)$ neutrino Yukawa couplings in a straightforward way. While this scenario has all the ingredients one would expect for significant experimental signatures, including several new TeV scale degrees of freedom, we find that most distinctive features associated with neutrino mass generation, leptogenesis and the dark sector are likely to remain inaccessible in the absence of additional lepton flavor symmetries.

Vacuum Stability and Higgs Diphoton Decay Rate in the Zee-Babu Model

Although recent Higgs data from ATLAS and CMS are compatible with a Standard Model (SM) signal at $2σ$ level, both experiments see indications for an excess in the diphoton decay channel, which points to new physics beyond the SM. Given such a low Higgs mass $m_H \sim 125 {\rm GeV}$, another sign indicating the existence of new physics beyond the SM is the vacuum stability problem, i.e., the SM Higgs quartic coupling may run to negative values at a scale below the Planck scale. In this paper, we study the vacuum stability and enhanced Higgs diphoton decay rate in the Zee-Babu model, which was used to generate tiny Majorana neutrino masses at two-loop level. We find that it is rather difficult to find overlapping regions allowed by the vacuum stability and diphoton enhancement constraints. As a consequence, it is almost inevitable to introduce new ingredients into the model, in order to resolve these two issues simultaneously.

Higgs Vacuum Stability, Neutrino Mass, and Dark Matter

Recent results from ATLAS and CMS point to a narrow range for the Higgs mass: $M_H\in[ 124, 126] {\rm GeV}$. Given this range, a case may be made for new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) because of the resultant vacuum stability problem, i.e., the SM Higgs quartic coupling may run to negative values at a scale below the Planck scale. We study representative minimal extensions of the SM that can keep the SM Higgs vacuum stable to the Planck scale by introducing new scalar or fermion interactions at the TeV scale while solving other phenomenological problems. In particular, we consider the type-II seesaw model, which is introduced to explain the non-zero Majorana masses of the active neutrinos. Similarly, we observe that if the stability of the SM Higgs vacuum is ensured by the running of the gauge sector couplings, then one may require a series of new electroweak multiplets, the neutral component of which can be cold dark matter candidate. Stability may also point to a new U(1) gauge symmetry, in which the SM Higgs carries non-zero charge.

Scalar Septuplet Dark Matter and Enhanced $h\rightarrow γγ$ Decay Rate

Inspired by recent results on the Higgs search from ATLAS and CMS, we extend the SM with complex septuplet scalars. The lightest neutral component of the septuplets is a natural cold dark Matter candidate and the charged components can contribute to the $h\to γγ$ decay rate, providing a significant enhancement factor. The dark matter phenomenology and possible collider signatures of the model are investigated. We find a dark matter candidate with mass around 70 GeV consistent with astrophysical and direct detection constraints. In the meanwhile, the enhancement factor of $h\to γγ$ decay rate can be in the range 1.5\sim 2.

Dark Matter, LFV and Neutrino Magnetic Moment in the Radiative Seesaw Model with Triplet Fermion

In this paper we work in the framework of a radiative seesaw model with triplet fermion $Σ$. Due to the $Z_2$ discrete flavor symmetry, the lightest neutral component of $Σ$ is stable and thus can be a dark matter candidate. Its mass can be solely determined by the dark matter relic abundance, which is bout 2.594 TeV. The model also predict a dark matter-nucleus scattering cross section that would be accessible with future dark matter direct detection searches. We further investigate constraints on the parameter space of the model from the lepton-flavor-violating processes and neutrino transition magnetic moments, induced by the Yukawa interaction of the $Σ$ with the left-handed lepton doublets.

A Three Higgs Doublet Model for the Fermion Mass Hierarchy Problem

In this paper we propose a possible explanation to the Fermion mass hierarchy problem by fitting the type-II seesaw mechanism into the Higgs doublet sector, such that their vacuum expectation values are hierarchal. We extend the Standard Model with two extra Higgs doublets as well as a spontaneously broken $U_X(1)$ gauge symmetry. All the fermion Yukawa couplings except that of top quark are of order ${\cal O} (10^{-2})$ in our model. Constraints on the parameter space from Electroweak precision measurements are studied. Besides, the neutral component of the new fields, which are introduced to cancel the anomalies of the $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry can be dark matter candidate. We investigate its signature in the dark matter direct detection.

Relatively Large Theta13 from Modification to the Tri-bimaximal, Bimaximal and Democratic Neutrino Mixing Matrices

Inspired by the recent T2K indication of a relatively large theta_{13}, we provide a systematic study of some general modifications to three mostly discussed neutrino mixing patterns, i.e., tri-bimaximal, bimaximal and democratic mixing matrices. The correlation between theta_{13} and two large mixing angles are provided according to each modifications. The phenomenological predictions of theta_{12} and theta_{23} are also discussed. After the exclusion of several minimal modifications, we still have reasonable predictions of three mixing angles in 3 Sigma level for other scenarios.

Pure Leptonic Gauge Symmetry, Neutrino Masses and Dark Matter

A possible extension of the Standard Model to include lepton number as local gauge symmetry is investigated. In such a model, anomalies are canceled by two extra fermions doublet. After leptonic gauge symmetry spontaneously broken, three active neutrinos may acquire non-zero Majorana masses through the modified Type-II seesaw mechanism. Constraints on the model from electro-weak precision measurements are studied. Due to the $Z_2$ discrete flavor symmetry, right-handed Majorana neutrinos can serve as cold dark matter candidate of the Universe. Constraint from dark matter relic abundance is calculated.

Neutrino Masses and A TeV Scale Seesaw Mechanism

A simple extension of the Standard Model providing TeV scale seesaw mechanism is presented. Beside the Standard Model particles and right-handed Majorana neutrinos, the model contains a singly charged scalar, an extra Higgs doublet and three vector like singly charged fermions. In our model, Dirac neutrino mass matrix raises only at the loop level. Small but non-zero Majorana neutrino masses come from integrating out heavy Majorana neutrinos, which can be at the TeV scale. The phenomenologies of the model are investigated, including scalar mass spectrum, neutrino masses and mixings, lepton flavor violations, heavy neutrino magnetic moments as well as possible collider signatures of the model at the LHC.
