Correlation Functions of Warped CFT

Warped conformal field theory (WCFT) is a two dimensional quantum field theory whose local symmetry algebra consists of a Virasoro algebra and a U(1) Kac-Moody algebra. In this paper, we study correlation functions for primary operators in WCFT. Similar to conformal symmetry, warped conformal symmetry is very constraining. The form of the two and three point functions are determined by the global warped conformal symmetry while the four point functions can be determined up to an arbitrary function of the cross ratio. The warped conformal bootstrap equation are constructed by formulating the notion of crossing symmetry. In the large central charge limit, four point functions can be decomposed into global warped conformal blocks, which can be solved exactly. Furthermore, we revisit the scattering problem in warped AdS spacetime (WAdS), and give a prescription on how to match the bulk result to a WCFT retarded Green's function. Our result is consistent with the conjectured holographic dualities between WCFT and WAdS.

Modifications to Holographic Entanglement Entropy in Warped CFT

In arXiv:1601.02634 it was observed that asymptotic boundary conditions play an important role in the study of holographic entanglement beyond AdS/CFT. In particular, the Ryu-Takayanagi proposal must be modified for warped AdS$_3$ (WAdS$_3$) with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this paper, we consider AdS$_3$ and WAdS$_3$ with Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions. The conjectured holographic duals are warped conformal field theories (WCFTs), featuring a Virasoro-Kac-Moody algebra. We provide a holographic calculation of the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy using AdS$_3$/WCFT and WAdS$_3$/WCFT dualities. Our bulk results are consistent with the WCFT results derived by Castro-Hofman-Iqbal using the Rindler method. Comparing with arXiv:1601.02634, we explicitly show that the holographic entanglement entropy is indeed affected by boundary conditions. Both results differ from the Ryu-Takayanagi proposal, indicating new relations between spacetime geometry and quantum entanglement for holographic dualities beyond AdS/CFT.

Bootstrapping holographic warped CFTs or: how I learned to stop worrying and tolerate negative norms

We use modular invariance to derive constraints on the spectrum of warped conformal field theories (WCFTs) --- nonrelativistic quantum field theories described by a chiral Virasoro and $U(1)$ Kac-Moody algebra. We focus on holographic WCFTs and interpret our results in the simplest holographic set up: three dimensional gravity with Compere-Song-Strominger boundary conditions. Holographic WCFTs feature a negative $U(1)$ level that is responsible for negative norm descendant states. Despite the violation of unitarity we show that the modular bootstrap is still viable provided the (Virasoro-Kac-Moody) primaries carry positive norm. In particular, we show that holographic WCFTs must feature either primary states with negative norm or states with imaginary $U(1)$ charge, the latter of which have a natural holographic interpretation. For large central charge and arbitrary level, we show that the first excited primary state in any WCFT satisfies the Hellerman bound. Moreover, when the level is positive we point out that known bounds for CFTs with internal $U(1)$ symmetries readily apply to unitary WCFTs.

Few-femtosecond Electron Beam with THz-frequency Wakefield-driven Compression

We propose and demonstrate a novel method to produce few-femtosecond electron beam with relatively low timing jitter. In this method a relativistic electron beam is compressed from about 150 fs (rms) to about 7 fs (rms, upper limit) with the wakefield at THz frequency produced by a leading drive beam in a dielectric tube. By imprinting the energy chirp in a passive way, we demonstrate through laser-driven THz streaking technique that no additional timing jitter with respect to an external laser is introduced in this bunch compression process, a prominent advantage over the conventional method using radio-frequency bunchers. We expect that this passive bunching technique may enable new opportunities in many ultrashort-beam based advanced applications such as ultrafast electron diffraction and plasma wakefield acceleration.

Terahertz streaking of few-femtosecond relativistic electron beams

Streaking of photoelectrons with optical lasers has been widely used for temporal characterization of attosecond extreme ultraviolet pulses. Recently, this technique has been adapted to characterize femtosecond x-ray pulses in free-electron lasers with the streaking imprinted by farinfrared and Terahertz (THz) pulses. Here, we report successful implementation of THz streaking for time-stamping of an ultrashort relativistic electron beam of which the energy is several orders of magnitude higher than photoelectrons. Such ability is especially important for MeV ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) applications where electron beams with a few femtosecond pulse width may be obtained with longitudinal compression while the arrival time may fluctuate at a much larger time scale. Using this laser-driven THz streaking technique, the arrival time of an ultrashort electron beam with 6 fs (rms) pulse width has been determined with 1.5 fs (rms) accuracy. Furthermore, we have proposed and demonstrated a non-invasive method for correction of the timing jitter with femtosecond accuracy through measurement of the compressed beam energy, which may allow one to advance UED towards sub-10 fs frontier far beyond the ~100 fs (rms) jitter.

Polygamy relation for the Rényi-$α$ entanglement of assistance in multi-qubit systems

We prove a new polygamy relation of multi-party quantum entanglement in terms of Rényi-$α$ entanglement of assistance for $\left( {\sqrt 7 - 1} \right)/2\leqα\leq \left( {\sqrt 13 - 1} \right)/2$. This class of polygamy inequality reduces to the polygamy inequality based on entanglement of assistance since Rényi-$α$ entanglement is a generalization of entanglement of formation. We further show that the polygamy inequality also holds for the $μ$th power of Rényi-$α$ entanglement of assistance.

Lower and upper bounds for entanglement of Rényi-$α$ entropy

Entanglement Rényi-$α$ entropy is an entanglement measure. It generalizes the entanglement of formation, and they coincide when $α$ tends to 1. We derive analytical lower and upper bounds for the entanglement Rényi-$α$ entropy of arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum systems. We also demonstrate the application our bound for some concrete examples. Moreover, we establish the relation between entanglement Rényi-$α$ entropy and some other entanglement measures.

Representation Learning with Deconvolution for Multivariate Time Series Classification and Visualization

We propose a new model based on the deconvolutional networks and SAX discretization to learn the representation for multivariate time series. Deconvolutional networks fully exploit the advantage the powerful expressiveness of deep neural networks in the manner of unsupervised learning. We design a network structure specifically to capture the cross-channel correlation with deconvolution, forcing the pooling operation to perform the dimension reduction along each position in the individual channel. Discretization based on Symbolic Aggregate Approximation is applied on the feature vectors to further extract the bag of features. We show how this representation and bag of features helps on classification. A full comparison with the sequence distance based approach is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on the standard datasets. We further build the Markov matrix from the discretized representation from the deconvolution to visualize the time series as complex networks, which show more class-specific statistical properties and clear structures with respect to different labels.

Monogamy relation of multi-qubit systems for squared Tsallis-\emph{q} entanglement

Tsallis-$q$ entanglement is a bipartite entanglement measure which is the generalization of entanglement of formation for $q$ tending to 1. We first expand the range of $q$ for the analytic formula of Tsallis-\emph{q} entanglement. For $\frac{5-\sqrt{13}}{2} \leq \emph{q} \leq \frac{5+\sqrt{13}}{2}$, we prove the monogamy relation in terms of the squared Tsallis-$q$ entanglement for an arbitrary multi-qubit systems. It is shown that the multipartite entanglement indicator based on squared Tsallis-$q$ entanglement still works well even when the indicator based on the squared concurrence loses its efficacy. We also show that the $μ$-th power of Tsallis-\emph{q} entanglement satisfies the monogamy or polygamy inequalities for any three-qubit state.

Generalized Gravitational Entropy for Warped Anti-de Sitter Space

For spacetimes that are not asymptotic to anti-de Sitter Space (non AAdS), we adapt the Lewkowycz-Maldacena procedure to find the holographic entanglement entropy. The key observation, which to our knowledge is not very well appreciated, is that asymptotic boundary conditions play an essential role on extending the replica trick to the bulk. For non AAdS, we expect the following three main modifications: (1) the expansion near the special surface has to be compatible with the asymptotic expansion; (2) periodic conditions are imposed to coordinates on the phase space with diagonalized symplectic structure, not to all fields appearing in the action; (3) evaluating the entanglement functional using the boundary term method amounts to evaluating the presymplectic structure at the special surface, where some additional exact form may contribute. An explicit calculation is carried out for three-dimensional warped anti-de Sitter spacetime (WAdS3) in a consistent truncation of string theory, the so-called S-dual dipole theory. It turns out that the generalized gravitational entropy in WAdS3 is captured by the least action of a charged particle in WAdS3 space, or equivalently, by the geodesic length in an auxiliary AdS3. Consequently, the bulk calculation agrees with the CFT results, providing another piece of evidence for the WAdS3/CFT2 correspondence.

Estimating Semi-parametric Panel Multinomial Choice Models using Cyclic Monotonicity

This paper proposes a new semi-parametric identification and estimation approach to multinomial choice models in a panel data setting with individual fixed effects. Our approach is based on cyclic monotonicity, which is a defining feature of the random utility framework underlying multinomial choice models. From the cyclic monotonicity property, we derive identifying inequalities without requiring any shape restrictions for the distribution of the random utility shocks. These inequalities point identify model parameters under straightforward assumptions on the covariates. We propose a consistent estimator based on these inequalities.

Deterministic generation of large scale atomic W states

We present a deterministic scheme for generating large-scale atomic W states in cavity QED system via a simple expansion mechanism, which is realized only by a detuned interaction between two identical atoms and a vacuum cavity mode. With the presented scheme, a W-type Bell pair can be created and an n-atom W state can be expanded to a 2n-atom W state with a unit probability of success in principle. No multi-atom gates, quantum memories or quantum non-demolition measurements are required, greatly simplifying the experimental realization of the scheme. The feasibility analysis shows that our expansion scheme can be implemented with state-of-the-art technologies. Our scheme enables advances not only in quantum information and communication but also in quantum thermodynamics, where atomic W states plays a crucial role.

Generating multi-atom entangled W states via light-matter interface based fusion mechanism

W state is a key resource in quantum communication. Fusion technology has been proven to be a good candidate for preparing a large-size W state from two or more small-size W states in linear optical system. It is of great importance to study how to fuse W states via light-matter interface. Here we show that it is possible to prepare large-size W-state networks using a fusion mechanism in cavity QED system. The detuned interaction between three atoms and a vacuum cavity mode constitute the main fusion mechanism, based on which two or three small-size atomic W states can be fused into a larger-size W state. If no excitation is detected from those three atoms, the remaining atoms are still in the product of two or three new W states, which can be re-fused. The complicated Fredkin gate used in the previous fusion schemes is avoided here. W states of size 2 can be fused as well. The feasibility analysis shows that our fusion processes maybe implementable with the current technology. Our results demonstrate how the light-matter interaction based fusion mechanism can be realized, and may become the starting point for the fusion of multipartite entanglement in cavity QED system.

General monogamy relation of multi-qubit systems in terms of squared Rényi-$α$ entanglement

We prove that the squared Rényi-$α$ entanglement (SR$α$E), which is the generalization of entanglement of formation (EOF), obeys a general monogamy inequality in an arbitrary $N$-qubit mixed state. Furthermore, for a class of Rényi-$α$ entanglement, we prove that the monogamy relations of the SR$α$E have a hierarchical structure when the $N$-qubit system is divided into $k$ parties. As a byproduct, the analytical relation between the Rényi-$α$ entanglement and the squared concurrence is derived for bipartite $2\otimes d$ systems. Based on the monogamy properties of SR$α$E, we can construct the corresponding multipartite entanglement indicators which still work well even when the indicators based on the squared concurrence and EOF lose their efficacy. In addition, the monogamy property of the $μ$-th power of Rényi-$α$ entanglement is analyzed.

Conditions for the freezing phenomena of geometric measure of quantum discord for arbitrary two-qubit X states under non-dissipative dephasing noises

We study the dynamics of geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD) under the influences of two local phase damping noises. Consider the two qubits initially in arbitrary X-states, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions for which GMQD is unaffected for a finite period. It is further shown that such results also hold for the non-Markovian dephasing process.

Motion-enhanced quantum entanglement in the dynamics of excitation transfer

We investigate the dynamics of entanglement in the excitation transfer through a chain of interacting molecules. In the case of two-molecule coupled to noisy environments we show that entanglement can be further enhanced if the distance between the molecules is oscillating. Our results demonstrate that motional effect plays a constructive role on quantum entanglement in the dynamics of excitation transfer. This mechanism might provide useful guideline for designing artificial systems to battle against decoherence.

SOARAN: A Service-oriented Architecture for Radio Access Network Sharing in Evolving Mobile Networks

Mobile networks are undergoing fast evolution to software-defined networking (SDN) infrastructure in order to accommodate the ever-growing mobile traffic and overcome the network management nightmares caused by unremitting acceleration in technology innovations and evolution of the service market.Enabled by virtualized network functionalities, evolving carrier wireless networks tend to share radio access network (RAN) among multiple (virtual) network operators so as to increase network capacity and reduce expenses. However, existing RAN sharing models are operator-oriented, which expose extensive resource details, e.g. infrastructure and spectrum,to participating network operators for resource-sharing purposes. These old-fashioned models violate the design principles of SDN abstraction and are infeasible to manage the thriving traffic of on-demand customized services. This paper presents SOARAN, a service-oriented framework for RAN sharing in mobile networks evolving from LTE/LTE advanced to software-defined carrier wireless networks(SD-CWNs), which decouples network operators from radio resource by providing application-level differentiated services. SOARAN defines a serial of abstract applications with distinct Quality of Experience (QoE) requirements. The central controller periodically computes application-level resource allocation for each radio element with respect to runtime traffic demands and channel conditions, and disseminate these allocation decisions as service-oriented policies to respect element. The radio elements then independently determine flow-level resource allocation within each application to accomplish these policies. We formulate the application-level resource allocation as an optimization problem and develop a fast algorithm to solve it with a provably approximate guarantee.

Empirical Studies on Symbolic Aggregation Approximation Under Statistical Perspectives for Knowledge Discovery in Time Series

Symbolic Aggregation approXimation (SAX) has been the de facto standard representation methods for knowledge discovery in time series on a number of tasks and applications. So far, very little work has been done in empirically investigating the intrinsic properties and statistical mechanics in SAX words. In this paper, we applied several statistical measurements and proposed a new statistical measurement, i.e. information embedding cost (IEC) to analyze the statistical behaviors of the symbolic dynamics. Our experiments on the benchmark datasets and the clinical signals demonstrate that SAX can always reduce the complexity while preserving the core information embedded in the original time series with significant embedding efficiency. Our proposed IEC score provide a priori to determine if SAX is adequate for specific dataset, which can be generalized to evaluate other symbolic representations. Our work provides an analytical framework with several statistical tools to analyze, evaluate and further improve the symbolic dynamics for knowledge discovery in time series.
