Particle identification for Higgs physics at future electron-positron collider

Particle Identification (PID) plays a key role in heavy flavor physics in high-energy physics experiments. However, its impact on Higgs physics is still not clear. In this note, we will explore some of the potential of PID to improve the identification of heavy-flavour jets by using identified charged Kaons in addition to the traditional vertexing information. This could result in a better measurment of the Higgs-charm Yukawa coupling at the future $e^+e^-$ colliders.

Higgs(general) at ATLAS

The ATLAS Higgs results are reviewed using Run-2 data taken at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with up to an integrated luminosity of 80 fb$^{-1}$. So far, the data are consistent with the standard model expectations. ATLAS now has observed the Higgs Yukawa coupling to the third generation fermions with $H\rightarrow ττ$, ttH, and $H\rightarrow b b$ in the VH process. The Higgs boson will continue to provide an important probe for new physics and beyond.

A Novel in situ Trigger Combination Method

Searches for rare physics processes using particle detectors in high-luminosity colliding hadronic beam environments require the use of multi-level trigger systems to reject colossal background rates in real time. In analyses like the search for the Higgs boson, there is a need to maximize the signal acceptance by combining multiple different trigger chains when forming the offline data sample. In such statistically limited searches, datasets are often amassed over periods of several years, during which the trigger characteristics evolve and system performance can vary significantly. Reliable production cross-section measurements and upper limits must take into account a detailed understanding of the effective trigger inefficiency for every selected candidate event. We present as an example the complex situation of three trigger chains, based on missing energy and jet energy, that were combined in the context of the search for the Higgs (H) boson produced in association with a $W$ boson at the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). We briefly review the existing techniques for combining triggers, namely the inclusion, division, and exclusion methods. We introduce and describe a novel fourth in situ method whereby, for each candidate event, only the trigger chain with the highest a priori probability of selecting the event is considered. We compare the inclusion and novel in situ methods for signal event yields in the CDF $WH$ search. This new combination method, by virtue of its scalability to large numbers of differing trigger chains and insensitivity to correlations between triggers, will benefit future long-running collider experiments, including those currently operating on the Large Hadron Collider.

Standard Model Higgs Boson Combination at the Tevatron

We present the recent results from combinations of searches for a standard model (SM) Higgs boson ($H$) by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron $p\bar p$ collider at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV. The data correspond to an integrated total luminosity of 8.2 (CDF) and 8.6 (D0) fb$^{-1}$. Compared to the previous Tevatron Higgs boson search combination more data have been added, additional channels have been added, and some previously used channels have been reanalyzed to gain sensitivity. No excess is observed above background expectation, and set 95% C.L. upper limits (median expected) on Higgs boson production at factors of 1.17 (1.16), 1.71 (1.16), and 0.48(0.57) times the SM predictions for Higgs bosons of mass $m_H$=115, 140, and 165 GeV/c$^2$, respectively. We exclude a standard-model Higgs boson in the mass range 156--177 GeV/c$^2$ at the 95% C.L, with an expected exclusion region 148--180 GeV/c$^2$. The absence of a Higgs boson signal also constrains some new physics such as $4^{th}$ generation models and other exotic models.

Neutral Higgs Boson Search at Tevatron

We review searches for neutral Higgs Boson performed by the CDF and D0 collaborations using approximately 200 pb$^{-1}$ of the dataset accumulated from $p\bar p$ collisions at the center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No signals are found and limits on the Standard Model (SM) Higgs or SM-like Higgs production cross section times branching ratio and couplings of the Higgs boson in MSSM are presented, including the future prospects of discovery Higgs at the end of Run II.
