Single-photon scattering by a giant molecule asymmetrically coupled to parallel waveguides

We investigate single-photon scattering in a waveguide-QED setup, where a giant molecule composed of two frequency-detuned giant atoms is coupled to two parallel waveguides via multiple connection points. The competition between coherent atom--atom coupling and the effective decay rates dictates the splitting of a single resonance into a doublet in the transmission (reflection) spectra. By tailoring the asymmetry of the decay rates and the atomic detuning, one can engineer photon-path interference to optimize the transfer between waveguides; under chiral coupling conditions, this interference can be further harnessed to realize fully deterministic routing. In the non-Markovian regime, retardation effects can reshape the spectra and actively drive transitions between the weak- and strong-coupling regimes, converting an unsplit Markovian resonance into a clearly separated doublet, or conversely merging a split doublet back into a single resonance. For sufficiently long time delays, it further generates multiple resonances and avoided crossings, enriching the spectral response. Our results demonstrate how atomic detuning, decay-rate asymmetry, and non-Markovian retardation cooperate to provide versatile, interference-based control over single-photon routing in multi-port quantum networks.

Sensing weak anharmonicities with a passive-active anti-PT symmetric system

We propose a scheme for enhanced sensing of weak anharmonicities based on a three-mode anti-parity-time (anti-PT) symmetric cavity-magnon-waveguide system. By tuning the optical gain to the active cavity mode, the linewidth suppression point for the anti-PT symmetric Hamiltonian can be flexibly controlled even when the two dissipative magnonic modes experience strong intrinsic decay. This essential characteristic is utilized for detecting weak nonlinearities in both the cavity and magnonic modes, with both demonstrating similar high levels of sensitivity. Moreover, the sensitivity can be greatly improved with a detuned laser drive. Based on the integrated passive-active three-mode anti-PT symmetric system, the sensing scheme can be generalized to various physical systems with anharmonicities.

Observation of topological Phenomena in a Weyl Exceptional Ring with Single Photons

Compared with Hermitian theory, non-Hermitian physics offers a fundamentally different mathematical framework, enabling the observation of topological phenomena that have no analogue in Hermitian systems. Among these, the exceptional point (EP) ring stands out as a quintessential topological feature unique to non-Hermitian systems. In this study, we employ single-photon interferometry to overcome the experimental challenge of precise phase control in quantum systems, thereby enabling a complete simulation of the non-Hermitian EP ring in three-dimensional parameter space without invoking any additional symmetry assumptions. By measuring the non-Hermitian dynamics in three-dimensional parameter space, we determine the system's eigenstates, which allows us to characterize the topological band structure of the system under different conditions. We describe the topological properties of the EP ring by extracting the Chern number and Berry phase for different parameter manifolds and observe the topological critical phenomena of the system. Our work paves the way for further exploration of topological non-Hermitian systems.
