The effect of Coulomb field on laser-induced ultrafast imaging methods

By performing a joint theoretical and experimental investigation on the high-order above-threshold ionization (HATI) spectrum, the dominant role of the 3rd-return-recollision trajectories in the region near the cutoff due to the ionic Coulomb field is identified. This invalidates the key assumption adopted in the conventional laser-induced electron diffraction (LIED) approach that the 1st-returnrecollision trajectories dominate the spectrum according to strong field approximation (SFA). Our results show that the incident (return) electron beams produced by the 1st and 3rd returns possess distinct characteristics of beam energy, beam diameter and temporal evolution law due to the influence of Coulomb field, and therefore the extracted results in the LIED will be altered if the significance of the 3rd-return-recollision trajectories is properly considered in the analysis. Such Coulomb field effect should be taken into account in all kinds of laser-induced imaging schemes based on recollision.

Design and Development of JUNO Event Data Model

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) detector is designed to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy and precisely measure oscillation parameters. The general purpose design also allows measurements of neutrinos from many terrestrial and non-terrestrial sources. The JUNO Event Data Model (EDM) plays a central role in the offline software system, it describes the event data entities through all processing stages for both simulated and collected data, and provides persistency via the input/output system. Also, the EDM is designed to enable flexible event handling such as event navigation, as well as the splitting of MC IBD signals and mixing of MC backgrounds. This paper describes the design, implementation and performance of JUNO EDM.

Parity Symmetry Breaking and Topological Phases in a Superfluid Ring

We study analytically the superfluid flow of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a ring geometry in presence of a rotating barrier. We show that a phase transition breaking a parity symmetry among two topological phases occurs at a critical value of the height of the barrier. Furthermore, a discontinuous (accompanied by hysteresis) phase transition is observed in the ordered phase when changing the angular velocity of the barrier. At the critical point where the hysteresis area vanishes, chemical potential of the ground state develops a cusp (a discontinuity in the first derivative). Along this path, the jump between the two corresponding states having a different winding number shows strict analogies with a topological phase transition. We finally study the current-phase relation of the system and compare some of our calculations with published experimental results.

Continuous measurements enhanced self-trapping of degenerate ultra-cold atoms: Nonlinear Quantum Zeno Effect

In the present paper we investigate the influence of measurements on the quantum dynamics of degenerate Bose atoms gases in a symmetric double-well. We show that continuous measurements enhance asymmetry on the density distribution of the atoms and broaden the parameter regime for self-trapping. We term this phenomenon as nonlinear quantum Zeno effect in analog to the celebrated Zeno effect in a linear quantum system. Under discontinuous measurements, the self-trapping due to the atomic interaction in the degenerate bosons is shown to be destroyed completely. Underlying physics is revealed and possible experimental realization is discussed.
