Wafer-scale monolithic integration of Ce:YIG films and magneto-optical isolators on silicon

Silicon integrated cerium doped yttrium iron garnet (Ce:YIG) thin films are promising candidates for integrated nonreciprocal photonic devices, cryogenic photonic modulators and optical computing applications. However, previously reported Ce:YIG thin film on silicon is limited to milimeter sizes. Wafer-scale integration and non-destructive characterization of high quality Ce:YIG thin films on silicon has been elusive. Here, we report growth of 4-inch wafer-scale Ce:YIG thin films on silicon substrates by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. Strong Faraday effect of 2318 deg/cm, low propagation loss of 80 dB/cm and excellent thickness uniformity of 3.5% is demonstrated across the 4-inch silicon wafer. Furthermore, a custom designed wafer-scale, non-destructive magneto-ellipsometry was established to characterize the film thickness, optical constants and magneto-optical constants across the wafer. Wafer-scale integration of ring resonator type magneto-optical isolators are also demonstrated. Our work demonstrates a step forward toward wafer-scale heterogeneous integration and characterization of magneto-optical thin films on silicon, providing material candidates for non-reciprocal photonic device arrays, magneto-optical in-memory computing networks and integrated magneto-optic magnetometers.

Dual-polarization control of broadband nonreciprocal thermal radiation by combining local and nonlocal metasurfaces

Nonreciprocal thermal radiation offers a route to decouple spectral directional absorptivity and emissivity, thereby enabling new paradigms in thermal-photonic systems. However, in magneto-optical platforms, the intrinsic gyroelectric response generally confines observable nonreciprocity to transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization, while the transverse-electric (TE) response is absent. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, a local thermal metasurface strategy to activate TE-polarized nonreciprocity by creating artificial gyromagnetic response in a gyroelectric semiconductor platform. We further extend this mechanism to broadband dual-polarization operation employing a nonlocal thermal metasurface, which combines a resonator supercell with gradient-doped epsilon-near-zero magneto-optical multilayers. Pronounced absorptivity contrast is maintained over 22-27 {\mu}m for TE polarization and 19-27 {\mu}m for TM polarization. This platform provides a mechanism-based route to achieve broadband and dual-polarization nonreciprocal thermal absorption, opening new opportunities for advancing radiative energy-conversion devices.

High-accuracy Low-Bit KV-Cache Quantization via Local Distribution Restoration

Long-context large language model inference relies on the KV cache to avoid redundant attention computation, but incurs high memory and bandwidth overheads. Low-bit KV-cache quantization reduces this cost, yet it severely degrade quality; particularly, one-bit quantization reduces accuracy from 84.2% to 47.8% on Llama-3.1-8B under RULER. Rather than common beliefs that absolute error of logits, we find that the root cause is structured local misranking, where the distribution of logits in top-K region is drifted. We thereby propose local distribution restoration, a new technique that detects steps with high local distribution risk from quantized-logit features and restores only the selected top-K candidate distribution before token selection. We implement DGAP to achieve local distribution restoration, with efficient risk detcetors and correctors. Expeirments show that on Llama-3.1-8B, DGAP recovers K1V1 RULER accuracy from 47.8% to 83.2% and reduces distribution drift from 0.38 to 0.14; across Llama, Mistral, and Qwen models, it preserves the persistent low-bit KV-cache footprint with modest decode overhead.

TTKV: Temporal-Tiered KV Cache for Long-Context LLM Inference

Key-value (KV) caching is critical for efficient inference in large language models (LLMs), yet its memory footprint scales linearly with context length, resulting in a severe scalability bottleneck. Existing approaches largely treat KV states as equally important across time, implicitly assuming uniform precision and accessibility. However, this assumption contrasts with human memory systems, where memories vary in clarity, recall frequency, and relevance with temporal proximity.Motivated by this insight, we propose TTKV, a KV cache management framework that maps the human memory system onto the KV cache. TTKV partitions the KV cache into temporal tiers with heterogeneous capacity and precision. The design addresses three aspects: (1) Tier Layout, decoupling fast and slow memory using HBM and DRAM; (2) Tier Content, assigning more recent KV states to faster, higher-precision tiers based on temporal proximity; and (3) Tier Interaction, employing block-wise streaming attention to overlap communication and computation when accessing slow tiers. Experiments show that TTKV reduces cross-tier traffic by 5.94x on 128K-context tasks, achieving up to 76% latency reduction and 2x throughput improvement over strong baselines.

Memory as Asset: From Agent-centric to Human-centric Memory Management

We proudly introduce Memory-as-Asset, a new memory paradigm towards human-centric artificial general intelligence (AGI). In this paper, we formally emphasize that human-centric, personal memory management is a prerequisite for complementing the collective knowledge of existing large language models (LLMs) and extending their knowledge boundaries through self-evolution. We introduce three key features that shape the Memory-as-Asset era: (1) Memory in Hand, which emphasizes human-centric ownership to maximize benefits to humans; (2) Memory Group, which provides collaborative knowledge formation to avoid memory islands, and (3) Collective Memory Evolution, which enables continuous knowledge growth to extend the boundary of knowledge towards AGI. We finally give a potential three-layer memory infrastructure to facilitate the Memory-as-Asset paradigm, with fast personal memory storage, an intelligent evolution layer, and a decentralized memory exchange network. Together, these components outline a foundational architecture in which personal memories become persistent digital assets that can be accumulated, shared, and evolved over time. We believe this paradigm provides a promising path toward scalable, human-centric AGI systems that continuously grow through the collective experiences of individuals and intelligent agents.

HybridEP: Scaling Expert Parallelism to Cross-Datacenter Scenario via Hybrid Expert/Data Transmission

Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) has become a popular architecture for scaling large models. However, the rapidly growing scale outpaces model training on a single DC, driving a shift toward a more flexible, cross-DC training paradigm. Under this, Expert Parallelism (EP) of MoE faces significant scalability issues due to the limited cross-DC bandwidth. Specifically, existing EP optimizations attempt to overlap data communication and computation, which has little benefit in low-bandwidth scenarios due to a much longer data communication time. Therefore, the trends of cross-DC EP scaling is fast becoming a critical roadblock to the continued growth of MoE models. To address this, we propose HybridEP, a modeling-guided framework to optimize EP under constrained bandwidth. Our key idea is to dynamically transform the spatial placement of experts to reduce data communication traffic and frequency, thereby minimizing EP's communication overheads. However, it is non-trivial to find the optimal solution because it complicates the original communication pattern by mixing data and expert communication. We therefore build a stream-based model to determine the optimal transmission ratio. Guided by this, we incorporate two techniques: (1) domain-based partition to construct the mapping between hybrid patterns and specific communication topology at GPU level, and (2) parameter-efficient migration to further refine this topology by reducing expert transmission overhead and enlarging the domain size. Combining all these designs, HybridEP can be considered as a more general EP with better scalability. Experimental results show that HybridEP outperforms existing state-of-the-art MoE training systems by up to 5.6x under constrained bandwidth. We further compare HybridEP and EP on large-scale simulations. HybridEP achieves up to 1.45x speedup with 1k DCs under different bandwidths.

Epitaxial growth of high quality $Mn_3Sn$ thin films by pulsed laser deposition

Non-collinear antiferromagnet Weyl semimetal $Mn_3Sn$ have attracted great research interest recently. Although large anomalous Hall effect, anomalous Nernst effect and magneto-optical effect have been observed in $Mn_3Sn$, most studies are based on single crystals. So far, it is still challenging to grow high quality epitaxial $Mn_3Sn$ thin films with transport and optical properties comparable to their single crystal counterparts. Here, we report the structure, magneto-optical and transport properties of epitaxial $Mn_3Sn$ thin films fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Highly oriented $Mn_{3+x}Sn_{1-x}$ (0001) and (11$\bar2$0) epitaxial films are successfully growth on single crystalline $Al_2O_3$ and MgO substrates. Large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) up to $\left| ΔR_H\right|$=3.02 $μΩ\cdot cm$, and longitudinal magneto-optical Kerr effect (LMOKE) with $θ_K$ = 38.1 mdeg at 633 nm wavelength are measured at 300 K temperature, which are comparable to $Mn_3Sn$ single crystals. Our work demonstrates that high quality $Mn_3Sn$ epitaxial thin films can be fabricated by PLD, paving the way for future device applications.

Magnet-free nonreciprocal metasurface for on-demand bi-directional phase modulation

Unconstrained by Lorentz reciprocity, nonreciprocal metasurfaces are uniquely capable of encoding distinctive optical functions on forward- and backward-propagating waves. The nonreciprocal metasurfaces reported to date require external electric or magnetic field biasing or rely on nonlinear effects, both of which are challenging to practically implement. Here, we propose and experimentally realize a magnet-free, linear, and passive nonreciprocal metasurface based on self-biased magnetic meta-atoms. Record transmittance up to 77% and operation angle reaching 64 degree are experimentally demonstrated. Moreover, on-demand bidirectional phase modulation in a "LEGO-like" manner is theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated, enabling a cohort of nonreciprocal functionalities such as microwave isolation, nonreciprocal beam steering, nonreciprocal focusing, and nonreciprocal holography. The design can also be extended to MHz and optical frequencies, taking advantage of the wide variety of self-biased gyrotropic materials available. We foresee that the nonreciprocal metasurfaces demonstrated in this work will have a significant practical impact for applications ranging from nonreciprocal antennas and radomes to full-duplex wireless communication and radar systems.

Observation of optical gyromagnetic properties in a magneto-plasmonic metamaterial

Metamaterials with artificial optical properties have attracted significant research interest. In particular, artificial magnetic resonances in non-unity permeability tensor at optical frequencies in metamaterials have been reported. However, only non-unity diagonal elements of the permeability tensor have been demonstrated to date. A gyromagnetic permeability tensor with non-zero off-diagonal elements has not been observed at the optical frequencies. Here we report the observation of gyromagnetic properties in the near-infrared wavelength range in a magneto-plasmonic metamaterial. The non-zero off-diagonal permeability tensor element causes the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) under s-polarized incidence that otherwise vanishes if the permeability tensor is not gyromagnetic. By retrieving the permeability tensor elements from reflection, transmission, and TMOKE spectra, we show that the effective off-diagonal permeability tensor elements reach the 10-3 level at the resonance wavelength (~900 nm) of the split-ring resonators that is at least two orders of magnitude higher than that of magneto-optical materials at the same wavelength. The artificial gyromagnetic permeability is attributed to the change in the local electric field direction modulated by the split-ring resonators. Our study demonstrates the possibility of engineering the permeability and permittivity tensors in metamaterials at arbitrary frequencies, thereby promising a variety of applications of next-generation nonreciprocal photonic devices, magneto-plasmonic sensors, and active metamaterials.

Circular displacement current induced anomalous magneto-optical effects in high index Mie resonators

Dielectric Mie nanoresonators showing strong light-matter interaction at the nanoscale may enable new functionality in photonic devices. Recently, strong magneto-optical effects have been observed in magneto-optical nanophotonic devices due to the electromagnetic field localization. However, most reports so far have been focused on the enhancement of conventional magneto-optical effects. Here, we report the observation of circular displacement current induced anomalous magneto-optical effects in high-index-contrast Si/Ce:YIG/YIG/SiO2 Mie resonators. In particular, giant modulation of light intensity in transverse magnetic configuration up to 6.4 % under s-polarized incidence appears, which is non-existent in planar magneto-optical thin films. Apart from that, we observe a large rotation of transmitted light polarization in the longitudinal magnetic configuration under near normal incidence conditions, which is two orders of magnitude higher than for a planar magneto-optical thin film. These phenomena are essentially originated from the unique circular displacement current when exciting the magnetic resonance modes in the Mie resonators, which changes the incident electric field direction locally. Our work indicates an uncharted territory of light polarization control based on the complex modal profiles in all-dielectric magneto-optical Mie resonators and metasurfaces, which opens the door for versatile control of light propagation by magnetization for a variety of applications in vectoral magnetic field and biosensing, free space non-reciprocal photonic devices, magneto-optical imaging and optomagnetic memories.

Waveguide integrated high performance magneto-optical isolators and circulators on silicon nitride platforms

Optical isolators and circulators are indispensable for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Despite of significant progress in silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platforms, integrated optical isolators and circulators have been rarely reported on silicon nitride (SiN) platforms. In this paper, we report monolithic integration of magneto-optical (MO) isolators on SiN platforms with record high performances based on standard silicon photonics foundry process and magneto-optical thin film deposition. We successfully grow high quality MO garnet thin films on SiN with large Faraday rotation up to -5900 deg/cm. We show a superior magneto-optical figure of merit (FoM) of MO/SiN waveguides compared to that of MO/SOI in an optimized device design. We demonstrate TM/TE mode broadband and narrow band optical isolators and circulators on SiN with high isolation ratio, low cross talk and low insertion loss. In particular, we observe 1 dB insertion loss and 28 dB isolation ratio in a SiN racetrack resonator-based isolator at 1570.2 nm wavelength. The low thermo-optic coefficient of SiN also ensures excellent temperature stability of the device. Our work paves the way for integration of high performance nonreciprocal photonic devices on SiN platforms.
