Hamiltonian cycles in $ 15 $-tough ($ P_{3}\cup 3P_{1} $)-free graphs

A graph $ G $ is called $ t $-tough if $ \left|S\right|\geq t\cdot w\left(G-S\right)$ for every cutset $ S $ of $G$. Chvátal conjectured that there exists a constant $ t_{0} $ such that every $ t_{0} $-tough graph has a hamiltonian cycle. Gao and Shan have proved that every $7$-tough $(P_{3}\cup 2P_{1})$-free grah is hamiltonian. In this paper, we confirm this conjecture for $ (P_{3}\cup 3P_{1}) $-free graphs.

2-factors in $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graphs

The toughness of a graph $G$ is defined as the minimum value of $|S|/c(G-S)$ over all cutsets $S$ of $G$ if $G$ is noncomplete, and is defined to be $\infty$ if $G$ is complete. For a real number $t$, we say that $G$ is $t$-tough if its toughness is at least $t$. Followed from the classic 1956 result of Tutte, every more than $\frac{3}{2}$-tough planar graph on at least three vertices has a 2-factor. In 1999, Owens constructed a sequence of maximal planar graphs with toughness $\frac{3}{2}-\varepsilon$ for any $\varepsilon >0$, but the graphs do not contain any 2-factor. He then posed the question of whether there exists a maximal planar graph with toughness exactly $\frac{3}{2}$ and with no 2-factor. This question was recently answered affirmatively by the third author. This naturally leads to the question: under what conditions does a $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graph contain a 2-factor? In this paper, we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of 2-factors in $\frac{3}{2}$-tough maximal planar graphs, stated as a bound on the distance between vertices of degree 3.

Hamiltonian laceability with a set of faulty edges in hypercubes

Faulty networks are useful because link or node faults can occur in a network. This paper examines the Hamiltonian properties of hypercubes under certain conditional faulty edges. Let consider the hypercube \( Q_n \), for \( n \geq 5 \) and set of faulty edges \( F \) such that \( |F| \leq 4n - 17 \). We prove that a Hamiltonian path exists connecting any two vertices in \( Q_n - F \) from distinct partite sets if they verify the next two conditions: (i) in $Q_n - F$ any vertex has a degree at least 2, and (ii) in $Q_n - F$ at most one vertex has a degree exactly equal to 2. These findings provide an understanding of fault-tolerant properties in hypercube networks.

Hamiltonian paths extending a set of matchings in hypercubes

The hypercube \( Q_n \) contains a Hamiltonian path joining \( x \) and \( y \) (where $x$ and $y$ from the opposite partite set) containing \( P \) if and only if the induced subgraph of \( P \) is a linear forest, where none of these paths have \( x \) or \( y \) as internal vertices nor both as endpoints. Dvořák and Gregor answered a problem posed by Caha and Koubek and proved that for every \( n \geq 5 \), there exist vertices \( x \) and \( y \) with a set of \( 2n - 4 \) edges in \( Q_n \) that extend to the Hamiltonian path joining \( x \) and \( y \). This paper examines the Hamiltonian properties of hypercubes with a matching set. Let consider the hypercube \( Q_n \), for \( n \geq 5 \) and a set of matching \( M \) such that \( |M| \leq 3n - 13 \). We prove a Hamiltonian path exists joining two vertices $x$ and $y$ in \( Q_n \) from opposite partite sets containing $M$.

Hadron production in the charged current semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering of $N=Z$ nuclei

The charged current weak interaction can distinguish quark flavors, it provides a valid method to determine (transverse momentum dependent) parton distribution functions in high energy reactions by utilizing tagged hadrons. In this paper, we calculate the charged current semi-inclusive deeply inelastic neutrino and anti-neutrino scattering of $N=Z$ nuclei. Semi-inclusive means that a spin-1 hadron is also measured in addition to the scattered charged lepton. The target nucleus has the same number of neutrons and protons and is assumed as unpolarized. According to calculations, we find that only chiral-even terms survive and chiral-odd terms vanish in the differential cross section for this charged current deeply inelastic (anti-)neutrino nucleus scattering process. Furthermore, we introduce a measurable quantity, the yield asymmetry of the produced hadron $A^h$, to determine the nuclear parton distribution functions. Numerical estimates show that the yield asymmetry is independent of the type of target nucleus if it has the same number of neutrons and protons. Numerical estimates also show that sea quark distribution functions and disfavored fragmentation functions have significant influence on measurable quantities.

Contractible Non-Edges in 3-Connected Graphs

We call a pair of non-adjacent vertices in G a non-edge. Contraction of a non-edge {u, v} in G is the replacement of u and v with a single vertex z and then making all the vertices that are adjacent to u or v adjacent to z. A non-edge {u, v} is said to be contractible in a k-connected graph G, if the resulting graph after its contraction remains k-connected. Tsz Lung Chan characterized all 3-connected graphs (finite or infinite) that does not contain any contractible non-edges in 2019, and posed the problem of characterizing all 3-connected graphs that contain exactly one contractible non-edge. In this paper, we solve this problem.

Quaternion Infrared Visible Image Fusion

Visible images provide rich details and color information only under well-lighted conditions while infrared images effectively highlight thermal targets under challenging conditions such as low visibility and adverse weather. Infrared-visible image fusion aims to integrate complementary information from infrared and visible images to generate a high-quality fused image. Existing methods exhibit critical limitations such as neglecting color structure information in visible images and performance degradation when processing low-quality color-visible inputs. To address these issues, we propose a quaternion infrared-visible image fusion (QIVIF) framework to generate high-quality fused images completely in the quaternion domain. QIVIF proposes a quaternion low-visibility feature learning model to adaptively extract salient thermal targets and fine-grained texture details from input infrared and visible images respectively under diverse degraded conditions. QIVIF then develops a quaternion adaptive unsharp masking method to adaptively improve high-frequency feature enhancement with balanced illumination. QIVIF further proposes a quaternion hierarchical Bayesian fusion model to integrate infrared saliency and enhanced visible details to obtain high-quality fused images. Extensive experiments across diverse datasets demonstrate that our QIVIF surpasses state-of-the-art methods under challenging low-visibility conditions.

Rethinking Diffusion-Based Image Generators for Fundus Fluorescein Angiography Synthesis on Limited Data

Fundus imaging is a critical tool in ophthalmology, with different imaging modalities offering unique advantages. For instance, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) can accurately identify eye diseases. However, traditional invasive FFA involves the injection of sodium fluorescein, which can cause discomfort and risks. Generating corresponding FFA images from non-invasive fundus images holds significant practical value but also presents challenges. First, limited datasets constrain the performance and effectiveness of models. Second, previous studies have primarily focused on generating FFA for single diseases or single modalities, often resulting in poor performance for patients with various ophthalmic conditions. To address these issues, we propose a novel latent diffusion model-based framework, Diffusion, which introduces a fine-tuning protocol to overcome the challenge of limited medical data and unleash the generative capabilities of diffusion models. Furthermore, we designed a new approach to tackle the challenges of generating across different modalities and disease types. On limited datasets, our framework achieves state-of-the-art results compared to existing methods, offering significant potential to enhance ophthalmic diagnostics and patient care. Our code will be released soon to support further research in this field.

Polarization analysis of two baryons with various spin combinations produced in electron-positron annihilation

We developed a method to analyze the polarization correlations of two baryons $B_{1}\bar{B}_{2}$ with various spin combinations in the annihilation process. We established spin density matrices for arbitrary spins in standard and Cartesian forms, and demonstrated their application in the helicity formalism. This paper provides parametrization schemes for the helicity amplitudes and details the analysis of two baryons with spin combinations of (1/2, 1/2), (1/2, 3/2), and (1/2, 5/2). We also illustrated methods for determining the spin and parity of the excited baryon $\barΞ^{*+}$ using the $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow γ^*/ψ\rightarrow Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{*+}$ process as an example. Our research offers broad opportunities for exploring the baryon spectrum and transition form factors in electron-positron annihilation.

Triangle-free Graphs with Large Minimum Common Degree

Let $G$ be a graph. For $x\in V(G)$, let $N(x)=\{y\in V(G)\colon xy\in E(G)\}$. The minimum common degree of $G$, denoted by $δ_{2}(G)$, is defined as the minimum of $|N(x)\cap N(y)|$ over all non-edges $xy$ of $G$. In 1982, Häggkvist showed that every triangle-free graph with minimum degree greater than $\lfloor\frac{3n}{8}\rfloor$ is homomorphic to a cycle of length 5. In this paper, we prove that every triangle-free graph with minimum common degree greater than $\lfloor\frac{n}{8}\rfloor$ is homomorphic to a cycle of length 5, which implies Häggkvist's result. The balanced blow-up of the Möbius ladder graph shows that it is best possible.

On the minimum degree of minimally $ t $-tough, claw-free graphs

A graph $ G $ is minimally $ t $-tough if the toughness of $ G $ is $ t $ and deletion of any edge from $ G $ decreases its toughness. Katona et al. conjectured that the minimum degree of any minimally $ t $-tough graph is $ \lceil 2t\rceil $ and proved that the minimum degree of minimally $ \frac{1}2 $-tough and $ 1 $-tough, claw-free graphs is 1 and 2, respectively. We have show that every minimally $ 3/2 $-tough, claw-free graph has a vertex of degree of $ 3 $. In this paper, we give an upper bound on the minimum degree of minimally $t$-tough, claw-free graphs for $ t\geq 2 $.

On regular 2-path Hamiltonian graphs

Kronk introduced the $l$-path hamiltonianicity of graphs in 1969. A graph is $l$-path Hamiltonian if every path of length not exceeding $l$ is contained in a Hamiltonian cycle. We have shown that if $P=uvz$ is a 2-path of a 2-connected, $k$-regular graph on at most $2k$ vertices and $G - V(P)$ is connected, then there must exist a Hamiltonian cycle in $G$ that contains the 2-path $P$. In this paper, we characterize a class of graphs that illustrate the sharpness of the bound $2k$. Additionally, we show that by excluding the class of graphs, both 2-connected, $k$-regular graphs on at most $2k + 1$ vertices and 3-connected, $k$-regular graphs on at most $3k-6$ vertices satisfy that there is a Hamiltonian cycle containing the 2-path $P$ if $G\setminus V(P)$ is connected.

A characterization of 4-connected graphs with no $K_{3,3}+v$-minor

Among graphs with 13 edges, there are exactly three internally 4-connected graphs which are $Oct^{+}$, cube+e and $ K_{3,3} +v$. A complete characterization of all 4-connected graphs with no $Oct^{+}$-minor is given in [John Maharry, An excluded minor theorem for the octahedron plus an edge, Journal of Graph Theory 57(2) (2008) 124-130]. Let $K_{3,3}+v$ denote the graph obtained by adding a new vertex $v$ to $K_{3,3}$ and joining $v$ to the four vertices of a 4-cycle. In this paper, we determine all 4-connected graphs that do not contain $K_{3,3}+v$ as a minor.

A stability result for $C_{2k+1}$-free graphs

A graph $G$ is called $C_{2k+1}$-free if it does not contain any cycle of length $2k+1$. In 1981, Haggkvist, Faudree and Schelp showed that every $n$-vertex triangle-free graph with more than $\frac{(n-1)^2}{4}+1$ edges is bipartite. In this paper, we extend their result and show that for $1\leq t\leq 2k-2$ and $n\geq 318t^2k$, every $n$-vertex $C_{2k+1}$-free graph with more than $\frac{(n-t-1)^2}{4}+\binom{t+2}{2}$ edges can be made bipartite by either deleting at most $t-1$ vertices or deleting at most $\binom{\lfloor\frac{t+2}{2}\rfloor}{2}+\binom{\lceil\frac{t+2}{2}\rceil}{2}-1$ edges. The construction shows that this is best possible.

Multi-rater Prism: Learning self-calibrated medical image segmentation from multiple raters

In medical image segmentation, it is often necessary to collect opinions from multiple experts to make the final decision. This clinical routine helps to mitigate individual bias. But when data is multiply annotated, standard deep learning models are often not applicable. In this paper, we propose a novel neural network framework, called Multi-Rater Prism (MrPrism) to learn the medical image segmentation from multiple labels. Inspired by the iterative half-quadratic optimization, the proposed MrPrism will combine the multi-rater confidences assignment task and calibrated segmentation task in a recurrent manner. In this recurrent process, MrPrism can learn inter-observer variability taking into account the image semantic properties, and finally converges to a self-calibrated segmentation result reflecting the inter-observer agreement. Specifically, we propose Converging Prism (ConP) and Diverging Prism (DivP) to process the two tasks iteratively. ConP learns calibrated segmentation based on the multi-rater confidence maps estimated by DivP. DivP generates multi-rater confidence maps based on the segmentation masks estimated by ConP. The experimental results show that by recurrently running ConP and DivP, the two tasks can achieve mutual improvement. The final converged segmentation result of MrPrism outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) strategies on a wide range of medical image segmentation tasks.

Biharmonic distance of graphs

Lipman et al. [ACM Transactions on Graphics 29 (3) (2010), 1--11] introduced the concept of biharmonic distance to measure the distances between pairs of points on a 3D surface. Biharmonic distance has some advantages over resistance distance and geodesic distance in some realistic contexts. Nevertheless, limited work has been done on the biharmonic distance in the discrete case. In this paper, we give some characterizations of the biharmonic distance of a graph. Some basic mathematical properties of biharmonic distance and biharmonic index are established.

Intrinsic asymmetries in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering at the Electron-Ion Collider

We calculate the neutral current jet production semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering process in this paper. Neutral current implies that interactions can be mediated by the photon, $Z^0$-boson and their interference. The initial electron is assumed to be polarized and then scattered off by a target particle with spin-1/2. Calculations are carried out up to twist-3 level in the quantum chromodynamics parton model by applying the collinear expansion formalism where multiple gluon scattering is taken into account and gauge links are obtained automatically. After obtaining the differential cross section, we introduce the definition of the intrinsic asymmetry. This quantity reveals the asymmetry in the distribution of the quark intrinsic transverse momentum. We find that these asymmetries can be expressed in terms of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions and the electroweak couplings. As a result, our calculations provide a set of new quantities for analyzing the parton distribution functions and the electroweak couplings. It is helpful to understand the hadronic weak interactions and strong interactions in the deeply inelastic scattering process simultaneously.

Calibrate the inter-observer segmentation uncertainty via diagnosis-first principle

On the medical images, many of the tissues/lesions may be ambiguous. That is why the medical segmentation is typically annotated by a group of clinical experts to mitigate the personal bias. However, this clinical routine also brings new challenges to the application of machine learning algorithms. Without a definite ground-truth, it will be difficult to train and evaluate the deep learning models. When the annotations are collected from different graders, a common choice is majority vote. However such a strategy ignores the difference between the grader expertness. In this paper, we consider the task of predicting the segmentation with the calibrated inter-observer uncertainty. We note that in clinical practice, the medical image segmentation is usually used to assist the disease diagnosis. Inspired by this observation, we propose diagnosis-first principle, which is to take disease diagnosis as the criterion to calibrate the inter-observer segmentation uncertainty. Following this idea, a framework named Diagnosis First segmentation Framework (DiFF) is proposed to estimate diagnosis-first segmentation from the raw images.Specifically, DiFF will first learn to fuse the multi-rater segmentation labels to a single ground-truth which could maximize the disease diagnosis performance. We dubbed the fused ground-truth as Diagnosis First Ground-truth (DF-GT).Then, we further propose Take and Give Modelto segment DF-GT from the raw image. We verify the effectiveness of DiFF on three different medical segmentation tasks: OD/OC segmentation on fundus images, thyroid nodule segmentation on ultrasound images, and skin lesion segmentation on dermoscopic images. Experimental results show that the proposed DiFF is able to significantly facilitate the corresponding disease diagnosis, which outperforms previous state-of-the-art multi-rater learning methods.
